National:
  • Parliament passed Aircraft (Amendment) Bill, 2020. The bill was passed by voice vote in Rajya Sabha, on 15th September, 2020. It was already approved in Lok Sabha in March. The bill is to improve India’s aviation safety ratings and provide statutory status to regulatory institutions, including the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA).
  • Lok Sabha passed a bill to reduce for one year the salaries of MPs by 30 per cent “to meet the exigencies arising out of COVID-19 pandemic”, on 15 September, 2020. It will replace the “Salary, Allowances and Pension of Members of Parliament (Amendment) Ordinance, 2020″.
  • On 15th September, 2020, the South Western Railway said, the first “Kisan Rail” from Karnataka, between Bengaluru and Delhi, will be run from September 19 to October 19.
Appointment:
  • Senior bureaucrat “Rajesh Khullar” has been appointed as Executive Director of World Bank, Washington, on 14th September, 2020. Rajesh Khullar is a 1988 batch IAS officer & he is currently serving in his cadre state Haryana as principal secretary to Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.
Award:
  • Sitara Karthikeyan won Young Photographer Award under-17 category, at “Nature in Focus Photography Awards“. She is from Coimbatore. She got award for a photograph of a dust bathing elephant at Corbett National Park in Uttarakhand.
International:
  • China successfully launched nine satellites from a ship in the Yellow Sea, on 15th September, 2020. These nine satellites belong to the Jilin-1 Gaofen 03-1 group. Each satellites has been developed by Changguang Satellite Technology in Changchun, Jilin province, weighs about 42 kgs. The satellite will provide remote-sensing services to users in fields such as agriculture, forestry, land resources and environmental protection.
Sports:
  • On 15th September, 2020, Badminton World Federation postponed the Thomas and Uber Cup Finals to 2021 due to COVID-19, which was to be held in Aarhus, Denmark.
Death:
  • Madhya Pradesh MLA “Govardhan Dangi” died at hospital in Gurugram due to COVID-19, on 15th September, 2020. He was 62. He was Congress MLA from Biaora assembly constituency in Rajgarh district.
