National Kala Utsav 2023

⇒ Union Minister for Education and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Dharmendra Pradhan, attended the inaugural ceremony of the Kala Utsav 2023 as the Chief Guest on 09 January 2024. Minister of State for Education, Smt. Annpurna Devi was also present at the function as the Guest of Honour.

Organized by:

Department of School Education and Literacy, Ministry of Education, and National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) organised Kala Utsav 2023 from 9-12 January 2024 at National Bal Bhavan and the Gandhi Smriti and Darshan Samiti, New Delhi.

Kala Utsav 2023 witnessed performances in 10 art forms:
    1. Vocal Music – Classical
    2. Vocal Music – Traditional Folk
    3. Instrumental Music – Percussive
    4. Instrumental Music – Melodic
    5. Dance – Classical
    6. Dance – Folk
    7. Visual Arts (2-dimensional)
    8. Visual Arts (3-dimensional)
    9. Indigenous Toys and Games
    10. Drama (Solo acting)
Key Points:
    • Around 700 students from 36 States and Union Territories, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti showcased their art forms in all these genres. Over 680 participants participated in the National Kala Utsav 2023.
    • The valedictory function was held on 12 January 2024 where prize-winning students received the trophies.

WHO launches ICD-11, Traditional Medicine Module 2

⇒ Union Minister of State for Ayush and Women & Child Development, Dr. Munjapara Mahendrabhai launched the ICD-11, Traditional Medicine Module-2 at the India Habitat Centre on 10 January 2024.

» With the launch of ICD 11, Traditional Medicine Module 2 by the World Health Organization today, preparations have started for its implementation.
    • The data and terminology relating to diseases based on Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani Medicine have been included in the WHO ICD-11 classification.
    • With this effort, the terminology defining diseases in Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha medicine has been indexed as a code and included in the WHO Disease Classification Series ICD-11.
» The Ministry of AYUSH in collaboration with World Health Organization has prepared a classification of diseases used in Ayurveda, Siddha and Unani systems under TM-2 module of ICD-11 series.
    • A Donor Agreement between the World Health Organization and the Ministry of Ayush was also signed earlier for this classification.
    • This effort will further strengthen and expand India’s healthcare delivery system, research, Ayush insurance coverage, research & development, policy making system.
    • Apart from this, these codes can also be used to formulate future strategies to control various diseases in the society.

According to Dr Rudy Eggers, Director of Integrated Health Services, WHO, the inclusion of TM Module 2 in ICD-11 can be seen as a movement along with the global recognition of traditional medicine. The strategy for this was prepared from 2014 to 2023 and the first draft of the WHO strategy for Traditional Medicine for 2025 to 2034 has been prepared.

Death

Noted Hindi Litterateur, Pandit Hariram Dwivedi

⇒ Noted Hindi and Bhojpuri poet, lyricist and litterateur Pandit Hariram ‘Hari Bhaiya’ Dwivedi passed away in Mahmoorganj, Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. on 08 January 2024. He was 87.

    • His main poetry collections were Angnaiya, Patari Peer, Jeevandayini Ganga, Sai Bhajanwali, Pani kahe Kahani, Pahchan, Nari, Ramta Jogi, Ben Fakir, Hashiye ka Dard, Nadiyo Gail Dubray etc.
    • He was the recipient of several awards including the Sahitya Akademi Bhasha Samman, Rahul Sankrityayan Award (by Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan), Sahitya Bhushan (by Uttar Pradesh Hindi Sansthan), Sahitya Saraswat Samman (Hindi Sahitya Sammelan, Prayag), and many others.
