Kheer Bhawani Mela, 2023

⇒ Kheer Bhawani Mela 2023 was started on 26th of May and concluded on 28th of May, i.e on Jyeshtha Ashtami.

    • Kheer Bhavani is considered to be the deity of Kashmiri Pandits, who have a lot of recognition there.
Key Points:
    • This year Mela was celebrated on 28th of May with great fervour and enthusiasm by not only Kashmiri Pandits but also by the locals of the Kashmir valley.
    • On first day of Mela more than 2500 devotees reached to the temple in 107 buses from Jammu.
    • Every year on the day of Jyeshtha Ashtami Kashmiri Pandits visits Mata Ragneya Devi Temple also known as Kheer Bhawani Temple to pay their obeisance.
    • Over the years, the Kheer Bhawani Mela has become a symbol of communal harmony and brotherhood in Kashmir.

GreenTech Safety Award 2023

⇒ RINL has bagged the prestigious “GreenTech Safety Award 2023” under Safety Excellence Category for its outstanding contribution to improve workplace safety in the year 2022-23.

    • The prestigious GreenTech Safety Award 2023 award given at the 21st Annual Greentech awards function held at New Delhi, on 30th May 2023.

» It recognises and honors the outstanding organisations that are taking responsibility for defining a commercial future by adding value through excellence in fire, safety, health and security management for corporate citizenship, transparent accountability, life cycle stewardship, strategic sustainability and conducting fair business in a disciplined manner that delivers a shared future for all stakeholders through commitment, dedication with a goal of zero injuries.

The Jury members of GreenTech foundation also applauded RINL for the initiatives like use of Drone technology for inspection of high-rise structures, chimneys etc, development of Software Application for tracking the usage of Safety Harnesses and also for imparting Safety Trainings through Online platforms (Webinars).

President of Türkiye

⇒ Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been sworn in as head of state after winning an historic run-off election to extend his two-decade rule for another five years on 03 June 2023.

Key Points:
    • President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has won Turkey’s presidential election, defeating opposition leader Kemal Kilicdaroglu in May 2023.
    • Erdogan won 52.2 percent of the vote while his rival Kemal Kilicdaroglu 47.8 percent.
    • Recep Tayyip Erdogan is a Turkish politician serving as the 12th and current president of Turkey since 2014.

International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2023

⇒ International Day of UN Peacekeepers is observed every year on 29 May. This year marks the 75th Anniversary of the UN Peacekeepers Day.

    • The International Day of UN Peacekeepers is an opportunity to recognize the service and sacrifice of the more than one million personnel who have served under the blue flag since 1948.
    • Each year on this Day, the UN and countries across the globe pay tributes to the professionalism, dedication and courage of all men and women who have served or are serving in UN Peacekeeping Missions and honour the memory of those who have laid down their lives in the cause of peace.
Theme:

The theme for International Day of UN Peacekeepers 2023 was “Peace Begins with Me”, recognizes the contribution and efforts of UN peacekeepers alongside many partners including the communities that we serve to secure peace and progress.

History:
    • The International Day of UN Peacekeepers was established by the UN General Assembly in 2002, to pay tribute to all men and women serving in peacekeeping, and to honour the memory of those who have lost their lives in the cause of peace.
    • The General Assembly, in its resolution 57/129, designated 29 May as the International Day of United Nations Peacekeepers.
    • This is the date when in 1948 the first UN peacekeeping mission named the “United Nations Truce Supervision Organization”, or UNTSO, began operations in Palestine.

The Indian Army commemorated the 75th International Day of UN Peacekeepers, by paying homage to the fallen comrades by laying wreath at National War Memorial, New Delhi.

    • The Indian Army has established a Centre for UN Peacekeeping (CUNPK) in New Delhi to impart niche training in peacekeeping operations.
    • The Centre trains more than 12,000 troops every year. CUNPK undertakes a multitude of activities from contingent training to national and international courses for potential peacekeepers and trainers.

Death

Noted Sanskrit Scholar Ved Kumari Ghai

⇒ Noted Sanskrit Scholar Ved Kumari Ghai passed away on 30 May 2023. She was 91.

About Prof Ghai:
    • Professor Ved Kumari Ghai received the Padma Shri, India’s fourth highest civilian award, in 2014.
    • Prof Ghai received the Gold Medal in 1995 by Jammu and Kashmir Government for social work and the President’s Award for Sanskrit in 1997.
    • She also recevied the Dogra Ratan award in 2005, lifetime achievement award in 2009 and Stri Shakti Puraskara in 2010.
    • She was head of the Sanskrit department in Jammu University. She taught Panini’s Sanskrit grammar and literature at the Institute of Indian Studies, Copenhagen University, Denmark in 1966–1967 and 1978–1980.
