Conclave on the theme 'Celebrating Contribution of India's North East Region in Nation Building'

⇒ Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh addressed the two-day conclave on the theme ‘Celebrating Contribution of India’s North East Region (NER) in Nation Building’, through a video message.

Raksha Mantri stated that Government-accelerated Development Initiatives in North East have transformed ‘Look East policy’ into ‘Act East Policy’, leading to all round developments in the Northeast region, enabling all the states to improve trade with South East Asian Nations.

The two-day conclave was organized by Indian Army and State Governments of Assam, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur & Nagaland as well as North Eastern Zone Cultural Council (NEZCC) at Guwahati.

    • As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the Indian Army under the aegis of HQ Eastern Command organized a two-day Conclave on 20 & 21 November 2022 at Guwahati.
Aim:

The Conclave was organized with an aim to highlight contribution of NER towards nation building, felicitate Veer Naris and showcase North eastern culture.

    • It provided an opportunity to spread awareness about the role of unsung heroes of NER in India’s struggle for independence.
Event:
    • As part of the celebration, the brave Veer Naris of NER were felicitated during a special event on 20 November 2022 at Narangi Military Station. About 100 Veer Naris attended the first of its kind outreach program.
    • Other events included weapons/equipment display and adventure activities display by Armed Forces, fusion band concert, medley of cultural performances from NER, special performance by local pop bands, an extravagant Musical Theatrical followed by first ever Drone Show at Guwahati.

IAF Heritage Centre Receives " Air Force Kanpur-I"

⇒ Indian Air Force (IAF) Heritage Centre being set up at Sector 18, Chandigarh has received a Vintage Prototype Aircraft “Kanpur-1”.

    • This rare single engined machine had been designed and built by late Air Vice Marshal Harjinder Singh VSM 1, MBE in 1958 and was in the proud possession of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh.
    • The “Kanpur-1” will be displayed along with other aircraft at the IAF Heritage Centre.
    • A solemn ceremony for taking over this indigenous machine was hosted at Aeronautical Engineering division of Punjab Engineering College, Chandigarh in November 2022.
About IAF Heritage Centre:
    • IAF Heritage Centre was a dream project visualised by Chandigarh Administration, Hon’ble Governor of Punjab & Administrator of UT, Shri Banwari Lal Purohit and Air Chief Marshal VR Chaudhari, Chief of the Air Staff last year.
    • The IAF Heritage Centre, Chandigarh will comprise of artifacts, simulators and interactive boards, in order to highlight the various facets of operations in the IAF.
    • It will showcase the important role played by IAF for humanitarian assistance and disaster relief besides its combat capabilities. It will also house various vintage aircraft.
    • The Heritage Centre will go a long way in motivating and inspiring the youth of this city in making a career in the IAF.

Awards in Fisheries Sector

⇒ The Department of Fisheries under Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India and National Fisheries Development Board, celebrated the ‘World Fisheries Day’ at Swami Vivekanand Auditorium, Daman.

Activities during the event:

» During the World Fisheries Day event, the Chief Guest of the event Shri Jitendra Nath Swain, Secretary Department of Fisheries launched the “Sagar Parikrama Song” of Gujarati version.

» He also released 5 books brought out by CIFNET, NFDB and Department of Fisheries such as Handbook on Fisheries Statistic-2022, Super Success Stories (English and Hindi), Communication and Navigational Equipment on board fishing vessel, Defect rectification and maintenance of boat engine, Capacity building on monofilament long line fishing and handling of tuna onboards and posters on seaweed, Wealth from waste and value addition in English, Hindi and Gujarati.

» Technical sessions and a panel discussion on “Scope of investment in Fisheries sector in India” were held during the event.

Awards in Fisheries Sector:

» During the event, the Government of India awarded best performing states/districts for during past three years 2019-20 to 2021-22, Inland, Marine, Hilly& North-eastern region, best district for Inland, Marine, Hilly & North-eastern region, Best Quasi Government Organization/ Federation/ Corporation/ Board in Inland, Marine, Hilly& North-eastern region.

    • Besides, there were award felicitated to best Fish Farmer (Inland, Marine and Hilly & NE Region), best Hatchery (Fish, shrimp and Trout Hatchery), best Fisheries Enterprises, best Fisheries Co-operative societies/FPOs/SHGs, best Individual Entrepreneurs, best Innovation idea/Technology Infusion.
    • The department awarded 28 achievers at the event under nine categories. The award winners were presented with a cash award ranging from Rs 1 to 10 lakh, a momento, a certificate and a citation.
    • Nine awards were felicitated to Government and Quasi-Government sector and 19 to private farmer/society/enterprises wherein the awardees shared their experience.
Best State Award:

» Chhattisgarh has received the ‘Best Inland State’ award in the field of fisheries on the occasion of World Fisheries Day. Along with the award, a cash prize of Rs 10 lakh and a memento were also given to the state.

» Also, Karnataka and Himachal Pradesh received the Best State award in the ‘Marine’ and ‘Hilly & North Eastern Region’ category, respectively.

» Meanwhile, Bharat Bala Aquaculture, a fish farming firm of village Bagaud falling under Dhamtari district of Chhattisgarh, was also awarded the ‘Best Proprietary Firm‘ along with a cash prize of Rs 2 lakh and a memento.

Important Day

World Fisheries Day 2022

⇒ World Fisheries Day is celebrated on 21st November every year to demonstrate solidarity with all fisher folk, fish farmers and concerned stakeholders throughout the world.

    • The event aims to draw attention to overfishing, habitat destruction and other serious threats to the sustainability of our marine and freshwater resources.
    • The celebrations serve to focus on changing the way the world manages global fisheries to ensure sustainable stocks and healthy ecosystems.
History:
    • World Fisheries Day started in 1997 where “World Forum of Fish Harvesters & Fish Workers” met at New Delhi leading to formation of “World Fisheries Forum” with representatives from 18 countries and signed a declaration advocating for a global mandate of sustainable fishing practices and policies.
    • The first World Fisheries Day was celebrated on 21 November 2015.
