Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society renamed as Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society

⇒ In a special meeting of the Nehru Memorial Museum and Library Society in June 2023, it was resolved to change its name to Prime Ministers’ Museum and Library Society.

    • The Special Meeting was presided over by Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh who is the Vice-President of the Society.
Background:
    • Prime Minister Shri Modi had mooted the idea of setting up of a museum dedicated to all the Prime Ministers of India on Teen Murti Premises, New Delhi in 2016.
    • The Executive Council, NMML had in its 162nd meeting held on 25-11-2016 approved the construction of the Museum of all Prime Ministers in the Teen Murti Estate.
    • The project was completed and the Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya was opened to the public on 21st April 2022.
Why was the name changed?

The Executive Council subsequently felt that the name of the Institution should reflect the present activities which now also include a Sangrahalaya depicting the collective journey of democracy in Independent India and highlighting the contribution of each Prime Minister in nation-building.

The Museum is a seamless blend which begins at the renovated and refurbished Nehru Museum building, now completely updated with technologically advanced displays on the life and contribution of Shri Jawaharlal Nehru. Housed in a new building the museum then goes on to tell the story of how our Prime Ministers navigated the nation through various challenges and ensured all-round progress of the country. Thus, it recognizes all the Prime Ministers, thereby democratizing the institutional memory.

Launch of "Dugdh Sankalan Sathi Mobile App" to Transform Indian Dairy Industries

⇒ Union Minister of Heavy Industries Dr. Mahendra Nath Pandey unveiled the ground-breaking “Dugdh Sanakalan Sathi Mobile App” at Mussorie, Uttarakhand on 16 June 2023.

Designed and developed by:

This innovative application, designed and developed by Rajasthan Electronics & Instruments Limited (REIL), Jaipur, a “Mini Ratna” Central Public Sector Enterprises under the Ministry of Heavy Industries.

    • This innovative application is poised to make a lasting impact on the Indian Dairy Industries by addressing key challenges in the milk collection process.
Aim:

This mobile app aims to improve the quality of milk, foster transparency among stakeholders, and streamline operations at the grassroots village level, including Milk Cooperative Societies.

» The “Dugdh Sankalan Sathi Mobile App” will bring significant benefits for all stakeholders involved in the milk collection process, including milk producers, cooperative societies, milk unions, and state federations.

Key features and benefits of the app include:
    • Increased transparency among stakeholders
    • Online monitoring of daily milk poured at Milk Cooperative Societies
    • Real-time milk price updates from the cloud server, ensuring transparency and eliminating human errors
    • Direct beneficiary transfers of milk payment and government subsidies to the milk producers’ bank accounts through the app
    • Push notifications for milk collection to the milk producers’ app
    • Multilingual app with support for English, Hindi, Punjabi, Telugu, and more

Government of India - United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027)

⇒ NITI Aayog and the United Nations in India signed the Government of India – United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework 2023-2027 on 16 June 2023.

    • The GoI-UNSDCF was signed by Mr. B V R Subrahmanyam, CEO, NITI Aayog, and Mr. Shombi Sharp, UN Resident Coordinator, India in the presence of the Vice Chairman of NITI Aayog, Mr. Suman Bery and other dignitaries.

NITI AAYOG The GoI-UNSDCF is the collective commitment of the UN Development System in India, in support of the India’s achievement of Agenda 2030, and the principle of Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas.

About GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027:

GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027 represents the UN development system’s collective offer to the Government of India, in line with the national vision for development, for the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals, promoting gender equality, youth empowerment and human rights.

    • The United Nations General Assembly Resolution A/RES/72/279 designates the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework as the principal planning and implementation instrument for the UN Development System at country level.
    • Programme priorities of the UN entities working at the country are derived from the GoI-UNSDCF.
The GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027 is built on four strategic pillars derived from the 2030 Agenda –
    1. People
    2. Prosperity
    3. Planet and
    4. Participation
The four interlinked pillars have six outcome areas focusing on –
    1. Health and Well Being
    2. Nutrition and Food Security
    3. Quality Education
    4. Economic Growth and Decent Work
    5. Environment, Climate, WASH and Resilience
    6. Empowering People, Communities, and Institutions
Specific focus:

To further deepen cooperation in critical areas, for the first time, the GoI-UNSDCF will have specific focus on SDG localisation and South-South cooperation, in line with India’s leadership towards the implementation and acceleration of the SDGs; and India’s championing of South-South cooperation. Showcasing Indian models of development globally will be central to the effort.

Formulation of the GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027:
    • The formulation of the GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027 was led by NITI Aayog, on behalf of the Government of India, with robust participation of line Ministries, State Governments, and Union Territories.
    • The UN Resident Coordinator led and coordinated inputs from the UN development system in India.
    • Partners from civil society, think tanks, private sector, cooperatives and labour unions also contributed to the development of the document, ensuring a whole of society, whole of government and whole of UN approach.
    • The GoI-UNSDCF was informed by a third-party evaluation of the previous Cooperation Framework (2018-2022) and a Common Country Analysis (CCA) undertaken by the UN in India.
Implementation, monitoring and reporting:

The implementation, monitoring and reporting of GoI-UNSDCF 2023-2027 will be co-led by Government of India and the United Nations, India through a Joint Steering Committee.

Important Day

Global Wind Day 2023

⇒ Global Wind Day is celebrated across the world on 15 June every year.

It is a day for discovering wind energy, its power and the possibilities it holds to reshape our energy systems, decarbonise our economies and boost jobs and growth.

History:
    • The first Wind Day was organized in 2007 by European Wind Energy Association (EWEA).
    • In 2009, the European Wind Energy Association (WindEurope) and Global Wind Energy Council collaborated to make Wind Day a global event.
    • The day acknowledges the power of the wind and raises awareness about its potential as a sustainable resource.
Celebration in India:

The Ministry of New and Renewable Energy, Government of India joined the worldwide celebrations of 15th June as Global Wind Day, through the organization of a day-long event in New Delhi, 15th June, 2023.

Theme:

Held with an intent to celebrate the success so far and discuss the potential ways forward for accelerating wind energy adoption in India, the event had the central theme of “Pawan – Urja: Powering the Future of India”.

Organized by:

The celebration was organized in collaboration with the National Institute of Wind Energy, Shakti Sustainable Energy Foundation, Indian Wind Turbine Manufacturers Association, Indian Wind Power Association, and Wind Independent Power Producers Association.

Discussion:

The celebration featured in-depth discussions on Wind Energy Progress in India, Offshore Wind development, Strengthening of wind energy manufacturing ecosystem and Green Finance for Wind Energy.

Delivering the keynote address, Secretary, Ministry of New & Renewable Energy, Bhupinder Singh Bhalla emphasized that the Government of India is fully committed to achieve the target of 500 GW renewable energy capacity by the year 2030.

    • The Secretary congratulated the states of Rajasthan, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu for their achievements during the financial year 2022-23.
    • Rajasthan was felicitated for achieving the highest wind capacity addition, Gujarat for achieving the highest wind capacity addition through open access and Tamil Nadu for initiating repowering of wind turbines.
Launch of Wind Atlas:

» The event also witnessed the launch of Wind Atlas at 150 meter above ground level, prepared by National Institute of Wind Energy (NIWE).

    • The onshore wind potential of the country is now estimated at 1,164 GW at 150 meter above ground level.
Other Points:
    • India has made great strides in the generation of wind energy over the years, and it now ranks fourth in wind power capacity in the world.
    • Wind energy is crucial to India’s efforts to achieve its goal of having 50% of its electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by 2030 and to achieve Net Zero by 2070.
    • India has significant potential for both onshore and offshore wind energy production.
    • With the continuous efforts from the government, the country has developed around 15 GW of domestic wind manufacturing capacity, making it Aatma Nirbhar.
