National:

Indian Coast Guard ship 'Vajra'

  • Indian Coast Guard ship ‘Vajra’, the sixth offshore patrol vessel has been formally commissioned into service on 24 March 2021. It has been commissioned to enhance coastal security.

In the series of seven offshore patrol vessels, Vajra is the sixth. It is fitted with highly sophisticated navigation and communication systems.

The ship has been indigenously designed and built by Larsen and Toubro Ship building Ltd.

Inaugration of Kurnool Airport, Andhra Pradesh

  • Kurnool Airport, a Greenfield airport, which was inaugurated, on 25 March 2021, is located at Orvakal, Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. Kurnool is the 6th airport in Andhra Pradesh to become functional after Kadapa, Visakhapatnam, Tirupati, Rajahmundry & Vijayawada.

The flight operations at Kurnool airport has been commenced on 28th March 2021 under the Regional Connectivity Scheme – Ude Desh Ka Aam Nagrik (RCS-UDAN).

100+ Comic Books

  • Union Minister of Education Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ launched 100+ comic books on 24th March 2021. These comic books has been created by teachers and students of CBSE schools and curated by NCERT. The Comics books are aligned to chapters in NCERT textbooks across grades 3–12.

These comics can be accessed online on DIKSHA web portal or via the DIKSHA app. The comics can also be accessed through a new WhatsApp powered Chatbot.

Union Minister said this innovative initiative will help in increasing cultural and social sensitivity in our children while imparting knowledge.

Maharaja Chhatrasal Convention Centre at Khajuraho, & MICE Road-show

  • Shri Prahlad Singh Patel, Minister of State for Tourism and Culture (Independent Charge) and Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh inaugurated the ‘Maharaja Chhatrasal Convention Centre’ on 26 March 2021, at Khajuraho in Madhya Pradesh. It was developed under Swadesh Darshan Scheme of Ministry of Tourism.
MICE Road-show:

The Ministry of Tourism, Government of India in association with Madhya Pradesh Tourism and India Convention Promotion Bureau also organized ‘Meet in India’, a MICE Road-show at ‘Maharaja Chhatrasal Convention Centre’, Khajuraho from the 25th to 27th March, 2021.

This MICE Roadshow was organised to promote India as MICE Destination (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions).

Sport Sciences Centre in Mysuru

  • A Sport Sciences Centre in Mysuru will be come up soon. The Sport Sciences Centre in Mysuru will serve as a sub-centre of the Centre for Sports Science situated in Bengaluru.

It will help to scientifically assess a sportsperson’s talent and chalk out a road map for his or her promotion.

AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022

  • The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) and the Local Organising Committee of AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022 have selected the three host cities and stadiums.

The D Y Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, Ahmedabad’s TransStadia and the Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar are the three stadiums and host cities for AFC Women’s Asian Cup India 2022.

2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup India will begin on January 20, 2022 & end on February 6, 2022.

India will also host the FIFA Women’s U-17 World Cup in 2022.

Death:

  • Renowned journalist and writer Anil Dharker has passed away on 26 March 2021. He was 74. He was the founder & director of the Mumbai International Literature Festival and Literature Live.

He served as a columnist and writer, an architect, a member of the advisory committee of the film censor board and more during his illustrious career. He was the author of The Romance of Salt. He was also the editor of several publications such as Mid-Day and The Independent etc.

  • The United Arab Emirates finance minister and the Deputy ruler of the Emirate of Dubai Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum passed away on 24 March 2021. He was 75. He was the brother of the current ruler of Dubai Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al-Maktoum.
