Quality Council of India launched ICMED Plus Scheme

⇒ The Quality Council of India (QCI) and the Association of Indian Manufacturers of Medical Devices (AiMeD) have added more features to the ICMED Scheme.

ICMED 13485 PLUS Scheme:
    • The ICMED 13485 PLUS, as the new scheme has been christened. The ICMED 13485 PLUS Scheme was launched digitally on 18 June 2021. It will undertake verification of the quality, safety and efficacy of medical devices.
    • ICMED 13485 Plus has been designed to integrate the Quality Management System components and product related quality validation processes through witness testing of products with reference to the defined product standards and specifications.
    • This is the first scheme around the world in which quality management systems along with product certification standards are integrated with regulatory requirements.
    • This scheme will be an end to end quality assurance scheme for the medical devices sector in India.
About ICMED Scheme:

The ICMED (Indian Certification of Medical Devices) Scheme was launched for Certification of Medical Devices in 2016.

17th P Kesavadev Awards

⇒ Veteran journalist Thomas Jacob and Padma Shri Dr Shashank R Joshi have bagged the 17th P Kesavadev Awards. The award was presented at a virtual event on June 18, 2021.

P Kesavadev Literary Award:

» Journalist Thomas Jacob won the Kesavadev Literary Award. Jacob has been awarded for excellence in the field of literature.

Diabscreen Kerala Kesavadev Award:

» Dr Shashank R Joshi won the Diabscreen Kerala Kesavadev Award. Dr Joshi has been awarded for his consistent efforts in imparting public health education, especially during the pandemic.

About Award:

» The awards are named after renowned Malayalam writer P Kesavadev. The prestigious P Kesavadev Awards is instituted by the P Kesavadev Trust. 

» It is presented annually to two dignified personalities who have proved their excellence in the field of literature and public health.

» It carries a cash prize of Rs 50,000, a citation and a sculpture by B D Dathan.

Book titled “Casual Finance – A Millennial’s Guide to Personal Finance”

⇒ Anuj Suneja, an MBA Finance student who recently passed out from IIM-Visakhapatnam, has written a book titled “Casual Finance – A Millennial’s Guide to Personal Finance”. The book was published on 23 June 2021 by Amazon, Flipkart and Kindle.

First woman to officiate in an England men’s home international match

⇒ Sue Redfern became the first woman to officiate in an England men’s home international match after being appointed as fourth umpire for 23 June 2021 first T20I against Sri Lanka in Cardiff.

Death

Carnatic vocalist Parassala B Ponnammal

⇒ Renowned Carnatic vocalist Parassala B Ponnammal died in Thiruvananthapuram on 22 June 2021. She was 96.

During her eight-decade-long career, Ponnammal performed across the world & her last public performance was in 2019 in Thiruvananthapuram. Some of her best renditions include compositions of Irayamman Thampi and KC Kesava Pillai.

Parassala was recipient of many awards and honours. She was conferred with the Padma Shri award in 2017. She was also a recipient of the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and the Kerala state government’s Swathi Sangeetha Puraskaram, in 2009.
