Digital Shakti 4.0 Campaign

⇒ The National Commission for Women (NCW) launched the fourth phase of Digital Shakti Campaign, a pan-India project on digitally empowering and skilling women and girls in the cyberspace, on 15 November 2022.

In line with its commitment to create safe spaces for women and girls online, Digital Shakti 4.0 was focused on making women digitally skilled and aware to stand up against any illegal/inappropriate activity online.
    • NCW launched it in collaboration with CyberPeace Foundation and Meta.
Panel discussion:

The launch was followed by an interactive panel discussion on “Safe Spaces Online Combatting Cyber-Enabled Human Trafficking & Combatting Other forms of Online Violence” in order to provide keen opinions from experts from the Industry, Government, and Academia to address the issue of online women safety from all tangents and provide whole approach to ensure better women safety online.

Padma Shri Sunitha Krishnan, General Secretary, Prajwala, Mr Ashutosh Pande, Senior Research Officer, NCW, Pavan Duggal, Advocate Supreme Court of India and Advisor, CPF, Veerendra Mishra, AIG, SISF, Madhya Pradesh Police and Advisor, NCW, Preeti Chauhan, Director-Operations, CPF participated in the discussion.

Background:
    • Digital Shakti started in June 2018 to help women across the nation to raise the awareness level on the digital front, to build resilience, and fight cyber-crime in the most effective ways.
    • Through this project, over 3 Lakh women across India have been made aware of cyber safety tips and tricks, reporting & redressal mechanisms, data privacy and usage of technology for their benefits.
    • The third phase of the program was started in March 2021 with the Launch at Leh. In the third phase, a Resource Center was also developed under the project to provide information on all the avenues of reporting in case a woman faces any cyber-crime.

10th International Tourism Mart (ITM) for the North East Region

⇒ Union Tourism Minister Shri G Kishan Reddy addressed the inaugural session of 10th International Tourism Mart (ITM) for the North East Region on 17 November 2022 in Aizawl.

Organized by:

Ministry of Tourism, Government of India organized the 10th International Tourism Mart (ITM) for the North East Region from 17th to 19th November 2022 in Aizawl, Mizoram.

Objective:

The objective of ITM 2022 was to highlight tourism potential of the Northeast region in domestic and international markets.

Focus:

The event focused on the “Priorities of G20 for Tourism Track”. As India assumed the G20 Presidency for a year starting from 1st December 2022.

Participation:

The three-day ITM event was attended by North-eastern Tourism Ministers, Seniors Officials of North-eastern states, State Governments, and Heads of the Tourism & Hospitality Associations.

Host:
    • The International Tourism Marts are organized in the North-Eastern States on rotation basis.
    • Mizoram hosted this Mart for the first time.
    • The earlier editions of this mart have been held in Guwahati, Tawang, Shillong, Gangtok, Agartala, Imphal and Kohima.
Key Points:
    • The Mart brought together the tourism business fraternity and entrepreneurs from the eight North Eastern States.
    • The mart included presentations by eight North Eastern States on their tourism potential, cultural evenings, sightseeing visits to local attractions in and around Aizawl.
    • It also included B2B meeting, where buyers from different regions of the country were engaged in one-on-one meetings with sellers from the North-East Region.
    • In addition, an exhibition including display of beautiful handicrafts and handlooms, was also organized to show case the tourism products of respective participating States.

» The eight states of North East India are blessed with scenic natural beauty, rich biodiversity, rare wildlife, historical sites, distinct cultural and ethnic heritage and warm and welcoming people.

    • The region offers unforgettable Wildlife Tourism, Tea & Golf Tourism, River tourism, Religious & Spiritual Tourism, Heritage Tourism, Cultural & Culinary Tourism, Adventure Tourism, Agro & Rural Tourism and Offbeat Destinations.
    • Northeast India is home to many wildlife sanctuaries like Kaziranga National Park famous for the one-horned rhinoceros.
    • The mighty Brahmaputra flows through the length of Assam where tourists can enjoy memorable river cruises and the flowing rivers of Arunachal Pradesh which feed the Brahmaputra offering incredible white water rafting experiences.
    • This International Tourism Mart 2022 highlighted the diverse tourist attractions and products offered in the 8 states.

Important Day

National Press Day 2022

⇒ National Press Day is celebrated every year on 16 November in India. The day is observed in honor of the Press Council of India.

Theme:

The Press Council of India celebrated the National Press Day 2022 on the theme “The Media’s Role in Nation Building” at SCOPE convention centre in New Delhi.

» The Union Minister of Information & Broadcasting, Youth Affairs and Sports, Shri Anurag Singh Thakur was the chief guest at the event. He also released the “Norms of Journalistic Conduct, 2022”.

Background:
    • National Press Day – the 16th of November – is symbolic of a free and responsible press in India.
    • This was the day on which the Press Council of India started functioning as a moral watchdog to ensure that not only did the press maintain the high standards expected from this powerful medium but also that it was not fettered by the influence or threats of any extraneous factors.
    • Though there are several Press or Media Councils world over, the Press Council of India is a unique entity in as much as this is the only body to exercise an authority even over the instruments of the State in its duty to safeguard the independence of the press.
History:
    • In the year 1956, the First Press Commission decided to form a body bestowed with statutory authority, meant to fulfill the responsibility of maintaining the ethics of journalism. The Commission felt that a managing body was required in order to connect with the people of the press and also to arbitrate on any issues that arose.
    • In 1966, on 16th November, the PCI was formed and following this, the National Press Day has been celebrated ever since on 16th November, every year to commemorate the establishment of the council.

World LPG Week 2022

⇒ World LPG Week 2022 was held from 14th to 18th November 2022 at India Expo Mart (IEML), Greater Noida.

Theme:

During the World LPG Week 2022, the world LPG industry met under the theme, ‘Humanising Energy’.

    • This is an issue which resonates across the globe and highlights the role that LPG plays as clean and modern fuel used every day in homes, businesses, and communities around the world.
    • This theme also showcased the incredible success that India has had in increasing access to LPG through innovative programmes and initiatives.

» Senior officials from Ministry of Petroleum & Natural Gas (MoPNG) and Indian Oil Corporation Ltd(IOCL) and representatives from Oil and Gas Industry attended the event.

» LPG Week travels the globe annually bringing together CEO’s of major LPG companies, government ministers and representatives of major intergovernmental organisations as well as media, to explore the LPG business, discuss its growth potential and to forge new business relationships.

» Minister of Petroleum & Natural Gas and Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs, Shri Hardeep S Puri addressed the gathering at World LPG Week 2022 on 16 November 2022.
    • He said that encouraging innovations in the LPG energy mix, efficiency, conservation, Bio LPG, Synthetic LPG etc would facilitate favourable shift/growth and also help in meeting the climate change goals.
    • Noting the relevance of theme of World LPG Week 2022, the Minister said that the theme ‘Humanizing Energy’– is apt as energy has a direct impact on human wellbeing, and there is an urgent need to produce and use energy in a sustainable way, while ensuring affordability & availability to everyone.
