PM’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors – YUVA 2.0

⇒ The Ministry of Education, Department of Higher Education, launched YUVA 2.0 – Prime Minister’s Scheme for Mentoring Young Authors, an Author Mentorship programme on 02 October 2022.

    • YUVA 2.0 has been launched to train young and budding authors (below 30 years of age) in order to promote reading, writing and book culture in the country, and project India and Indian writings globally.
    • The launch of YUVA 2.0 (Young, Upcoming and Versatile Authors) is in tune with the Prime Minister’s vision to encourage the youth to understand and appreciate India’s democracy.
Theme:

YUVA 2.0 is a part of India@75 Project (Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav) to bring to the fore the perspectives of the young generation of writers on the THEME: ‘Democracy (institutions, events, people, constitutional values – past, present, future)’ in an innovative and creative manner.

Implementing Agency:

The National Book Trust, India, under the Ministry of Education as the Implementing Agency is ensuring phase-wise execution of the Scheme under well-defined stages of mentorship.

    • The books prepared under this scheme will be published by National Book Trust, India, and will also be translated into other Indian languages ensuring the exchange of culture and literature, thereby promoting ‘Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat’.
Key Points:
    • The selected young authors will interact with some of the best authors of the world, participate in literary festivals etc.
    • The scheme will help to develop a stream of writers who can write on various facets of Democracy in India encompassing the past, present and future.
    • This scheme will thus help to develop a stream of writers who can write on a spectrum of subjects to promote Indian heritage, culture and knowledge system.
    • The winners will be announced on 28 February 2023.
    • The young authors will be trained by eminent authors/mentors from 1 March 2023 – 31 August 2023.
    • Under the mentorship, the first set of published books will be launched on 2 October 2023.

Swachh Bharat Diwas

⇒ The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu, graced the event organised by the Ministry of Jal Shakti to celebrate Swachh Bharat Diwas in New Delhi October 2, 2022. She presented Swachh Survekshan Grameen awards in various categories.

During the event, the President was presented the first copies of Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2022 and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Functionality Assessment 2022 reports by Union Minister of Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. The Department has been conducting Swachh Sarvekshan since 2018.

Report on ‘Functionality Assessment FY 2021-22’:
    • The report is based on the third-party survey carried out by the department, to assess the number of working tap connections, regularity and prescribed quality of water supplied.
    • During the survey, testing was carried out across 712 districts covering 13,299 villages.
    • A total of 3,01,389 households and 22,596 public institutions were surveyed.
    • 2,19,564 water samples from households and 9,844 samples from public institutions were tested. The sample size for 2022 is three times that of previous year.
The Swachh Sarvekshan report gives details of the ranking, field-survey, assessment and citizens perception.

Based on the findings of Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2022 and JJM Functionality Assessment Report, implementation and progress of the two missions of the Department, best performing States/UTs & Districts were felicitated during the event on 2nd October 2022.

The Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat along with other Ministers conferred the awards to best performing States/UTs for Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2022, Swachhta Hi Sewa 2022, Sujlam 1.0 & 2.0, JJM Functionality Assessment, Har Ghar Jal Certification.

The minister also conferred the winners of Start-up Grand Challenge for innovative technology for Solid and Liquid Waste Management (SLWM), National film competition for Gram Panchayats on various components of ODF +, National Wall painting competition on SBM(G).

Important Award Winners:

» The President, Smt Droupadi Murmu gave the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2022 awards under large state category to Telangana, Haryana & Tamil Nadu; under Small States & UT category to A&N Islands, DNH D&D and Sikkim in that order and to Bhiwani (Haryana) as overall Top Performing District.

» In the more than 60% tap water coverage category, Puducherry and Goa were felicitated; in less than 60% tap water coverage category Tamil Nadu and Meghalaya secured the first and second position.

» Smt Murmu also gave the award to Burhanpur District, M.P for being the first ‘Har Ghar Jal’ certified district in the country, where all the villages through Gram Sabhas declared themselves as ‘Har Ghar Jal’.

The Department also launched two campaigns on this occasion:
    1. “Retrofit to Twin Pit Abhiyan” for promoting twin pit toilets in households towards improved faecal sludge management. This campaign concluded on World Toilet Day i.e. 19th November 2022.
    2. ‘Swachh Jal Se Suraksha’: The campaign on water quality helped create awareness on the importance of clean and safe drinking water and also helped to monitor the quality of water supplied in rural households.

» During this event the Union Minister of Jal Shakti also announced Swachh Survekshan Grameen (SSG) 2023 and Jal Jeevan Survekshan (JJS) 2023.

    • The Survekshan will talk about functionality of tap water connection in all the ‘Har Ghar Jal’ villages. It is a means to ensure that the objective of Jal Jeevan Mission is achieved i.e. adequate amount of potable water is regularly reaching every household in the village.
Background:

Department of Drinking Water and Sanitation (DDWS), Ministry of Jal Shakti commemorated the birth anniversary of Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi as Swachh Bharat Diwas (SBD) on 2nd October 2022.

    • A day-long programme was organized by the Department at Vigyan Bhawan on 2nd October 2022.

» DDWS implements two flagship programmes of the central government viz; Swachh Bharat Mission (Grameen) and Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM).

    • SBM-G was started on 2nd October 2014 with the aim to stop Open Defecation. On 2nd October 2019, all villages in the country declared themselves ODF.
    • On 15th August 2019, Jal Jeevan Mission was launched by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. At the time of the launch, only 3.23 Crore rural households had access to tap water connection. With relentless efforts made on ground by the Mission in partnership with the State and UTs, today over 10.27 Crore rural households are getting water through taps, in a short period of 3 years.

6th Annual Day of IBBI

⇒ The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI) celebrated its Sixth Annual Day on 1st October, 2022.

    • To mark the occasion, an annual publication, “IBC: Idea, Impressions and Implementation” also be released.
About IBBI and IBC:
    • The Insolvency and Bankruptcy Board of India (IBBI), being responsible for implementation of the Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code (IBC), 2016, aims for reorganisation and insolvency resolution of corporate persons, partnership firms and individuals in a time bound manner for maximization of the value of assets, to promote entrepreneurship, availability of credit and balance the interests of all the stakeholders.
    • The IBC has created a strong ecosystem in insolvency regime which is expanding in terms of number of service providers and number of cases using the IBC as rescue mechanism for distressed firms.
    • The IBC has rescued 1,934 CDs (517 through resolution plans, 774 through appeal or review or settlement and 643 through withdrawal) till June 2022. In value terms, around 69% of distressed assets which entered the process under the IBC have been resolved.
