» In a special ceremony hosted in Oslo, His Majesty King Herald V of Norway conferred upon Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi the ‘Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit’.
- The award is Norway’s highest honour bestowed on foreign Heads of Government.
- The award is conferred in recognition of the outstanding service in the interest of Norway and humankind.
- The conferment stands as a symbol of the deep bonds of goodwill that exists between India and Norway, and will guide their journey of friendship and collaboration into the future.

» PM Modi arrived in Oslo, Norway, after concluding a two-day visit to Sweden, which was part of his five-nation tour that began in the UAE.
- This is Modi’s first visit to Norway, and the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the country in 43 years.
» Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held bilateral talks with the Prime Minister of Norway, H.E. Mr. Jonas Gahr Støre in Oslo.
- The leaders reviewed the full spectrum of India-Norway relations, covering trade and investments, follow up on the India-EFTA Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (TEPA), climate action and energy transition, blue economy and ocean governance, research and higher education, Arctic and polar cooperation, space, and talent mobility. - On his visit to Sweden, PM Modi was also awarded Sweden’s prestigious ‘Royal Order of the Polar Star, Degree Commander Grand Cross,’ in recognition of his exceptional contributions to bilateral ties and his visionary leadership.
- The award is Sweden’s highest honour conferred on foreign Heads of Government.
