Asian Weightlifting Championships 2020 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan

After the postponement of 2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships in April 2020, the new date of championships was finalized.

2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships were organized during 16th – 25th April, 2021 at Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It was the 49th men’s and 30th women’s championship.

2020 Asian Weightlifting Championships was a qualification event for 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. 2020 Tokyo Summer Olympic Games is scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August, 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

India at Asian Weightlifting Championships

China topped the medal table (Total Result) with a total of 16 medals, while India finished 8th with 2 medals, which includes 1 Gold and 1 Bronze.

India has been placed at 5th rank out of 18 nations with 5 medals in all three categories (snatch, clean & jerk, & for a total), which includes 4 Gold and 1 Bronze.

In the 49 kg weight category:

The 26-year-old Indian Saikhom Mirabai Chanu lifted 86kg in snatch and a world record of 119kg in clean and jerk for a total of 205kg.

Saikhom Mirabai Chanu won Gold medal in clean and jerk while in total, she won Bronze medal in Asian Weightlifting Championship.

In the 45 kg weight category:

Indian weightlifter, Jhilli Dalabehera, lifted 69 kg in snatch & followed by 88 kg in Clean & Jerk, lifting a total of 157 kg.

She won gold medal in all the three categories (snatch, clean & jerk, and for a total) at the Asian Weightlifting Championship. However, 45 kg is not a Olympic weight category.
