The Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar conferred the 4th National Water Awards 2022 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi on 17 June 2023.

  • The award distribution ceremony was organised by the Department of Water Resources, River Development, and Ganga Rejuvenation (DoWR, RD &GR), Ministry of Jal Shakti.
Key Points:
  • The 4th National Water Awards Ceremony was inaugurated by the Vice-President by a symbolic Jal Kalash ceremony.
  • The Vice-President also inaugurated a short film featuring the animated character Piku, the mascot of the National Water Mission, to be telecast on Doordarshan for amplifying the message of water conservation.

4th National Water Awards 2022

4th National Water Awards 2022 Winners:

» 41 winners, including joint winners across 11 categories were awarded for their exemplary work in the field of water conservation and management.

Prize:

  • Each award winner was conferred with a citation and a trophy as well as cash prizes in certain categories.
  • The cash prizes for the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd rank winners are Rs 2 lakhs, Rs 1.5 lakhs, and Rs 1 lakh, respectively.
Best State category:

In the Best State category, the state of Madhya Pradesh won the first prize, with Odisha taking the second position, and Andhra Pradesh and Bihar jointly taking the third position.

Winner from Bihar:

NTPC Barauni has achieved a significant milestone by securing the first rank in the Best Industry Category at the 4th National Water Awards. The recognition given by the Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India highlights NTPC’s unwavering commitment and exceptional efforts in the conservation and management of water resources.

  1. Best State: Madhya Pradesh
  2. Best District: Ganjam District, Odisha
  3. Best Village Panchayat: Jagannadhapuram Village Panchayat, Bhadradri Kothagudem district, Telangana
  4. Best Urban Local Body: Chandigarh Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh
  5. Best Media: Advance Water Digest Private Limited Gurugram, Haryana
  6. Best School: Jamiyatpura Primary School, Mehsana, Gujarat
  7. Best Institution for Campus usage: Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Reasi, Jammu and Kashmir
  8. Best Industry: Barauni Thermal Power Station, Begusarai, Bihar
  9. Best NGO: Arpan Seva Sansthan, Udaipur, Rajasthan
  10. Best Water User Association: Sanjeevani Piyat Sahkari Mandli Ltd, Narmada, Gujarat
  11. Best Industry for CSR Activities: HCL Technologies Ltd., Noida, Uttar Pradesh

About National Water Awards:
  • The Department of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation, Ministry of Jal Shakti has launched the National Water Awards.
  • The National Water Awards (NWAs) were introduced to recognize and encourage exemplary work and efforts made by States, Districts, individuals, organizations, etc. across the country in accomplishing the government’s vision ‘Jal Samridh Bharat’.
  • It aims to sensitize the public about the importance of water and motivates them to adopt the best water usage practices.
  • The objective of the National Water Awards is to encourage the stakeholders to adopt a holistic approach toward water resource management in the country as surface water and groundwater play a significant role in the water cycle. In order to embrace these objectives, the first edition of the National Water Awards was introduced in the year 2018 by the Department.
