ARIIA-2021 Ranking

⇒ Minister of State for Education, Dr Subhas Sarkar virtually announced the Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements (ARIIA) 2021 on 29 December 2021.

    • ARIIA is an initiative of Ministry of Education, Govt of India to systematically rank all major higher educational institutions in India on indicators related to Innovation, Start-up and Entrepreneurship Development” amongst students and faculties.
    • ARIIA critically evaluate institutions on parameters like patent filing and granted, number of registered students and faculty start-ups, fund generation by incubated start-ups, specialised infrastructure created by institutions to promote innovation and entrepreneurship, etc.

ARIIA-2021 ranking is announced in various categories which includes Centrally funded technical institutions (eg IITs, NITs, etc), State Universities, State standalone Technical colleges, Private universities, Private standalone technical colleges, non-technical government and private universities and institutions.

This year the participation has almost doubled to 1438 Institutes and have quadrupled over first edition. The first edition of ARIIA started in 2019.

ARIIA 2021 classified the participating institutions into under two major categories- Technical and Non-technical.

The technical category has following 5 sub-categories:

    1. CFTIs, Central University, & Institute of National Importance
      • In this category, Indian Institute of Technology Madras has got first rank.
    1. State University & Deemed University (Govt. & Govt. Aided)
      • In this category, Panjab University has got first rank.
    1. Govt. College/Institution (Govt. & Govt. Aided)
      • In this category, College of Engineering Pune has got first rank.
    1. University & Deemed University (Self-Finance/Private)
      • In this category, Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology Khordha, Odisha has got first rank.
    1. Private College/Institute (Self-Finance/Private)
      • In this category, G H Raisoni College of Engineering, Maharashtra has got first rank.

The newly introduced non-technical category classify HEIs into two sub-categories:

    1. CFIs/Central University/Institute of National Importance (Non-Technical)
      • In this category, Indira Gandhi National Open University has got first rank.
    1. General (Non-Technical)
      • In this category, Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Gujarat has got first rank.

Secretary, Ministry of Steel

⇒ Shri Sanjay Kumar Singh assumed charge as the Secretary, Ministry of Steel in New Delhi on 30 December 2021. He is a 1987 batch IAS officer of Madhya Pradesh cadre.

24th Chief of Indian Coast Guard

⇒ Director General VS Pathania, took over as the 24th Chief of Indian Coast Guard on 31 December 2021. He is an alumnus of the Defence Services Staff College, Wellington and National Defence College, New Delhi.

Tele-Digital Healthcare Pilot Program

⇒ Union Minister of State (I/C) Science & Technology; Minister of State (I/C) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh launched the Tele-Digital Healthcare Pilot Program at BHU, Varanasi on 31 December 2021.

Launching the Tele-Digital Healthcare Pilot Program, Dr Jitendra Singh said, innovative healthcare solutions like Tele-medicine could save India between 4-5 billion US dollars every year and replace half of in-person outpatient consultations. He also said that Tele-medicine technology is going to be the main pillar of India’s future health care system.

Initial Phase:

The project starting in three districts of Varanasi, Gorakhpur and Kamjong (in Manipur) will cover 60,000 patients in the initial phase. It will be scaled up gradually to cover the entire country in the coming years.

Designed by:

Technology Information, Forecasting and Assessment Council (TIFAC), an autonomous body of Department of Science and Technology at the Centre has designed a pilot Tele-diagnostics project in collaboration with IIT Madras-Pravartak Foundation Technologies & CDAC Mohali.

This will also generate Electronic Health Record (EHR) for Indian population.

2022 India Open

⇒ The 2022 India Open (officially known as the Yonex-Sunrise India Open 2022) was a badminton tournament held in New Delhi from 11 to 16 January 2022.

The 2022 India Open was the first tournament of the 2022 BWF World Tour. It was part of the India Open championships.

The tournament was organized by the Badminton Association of India with sanction from the Badminton World Federation.

Winners of India Open 2022:
Men’s Singles:
    • Winner: Lakshya Sen (India)
    • Runner up: Loh Kean Yew (Singapore)
Women’s Singles:
    • Winner: Busanan Ongbamrungphan (Thailand)
    • Runner up: Supanida Katethong (Thailand)
Men’s Doubles:
    • Winner: Satwiksairaj Rankireddy (India) and Chirag Shetty (India)
    • Runner up: Mohammad Ahsan (Indonesia) and Hendra Setiawan (Indonesia)
Women’s Doubles:
    • Winner: Benyapa Aimsaard (Thailand) and Nuntakarn Aimsaard (Thailand)
    • Runner up: Anastasiia Akchurina (Russia) and Olga Morozova (Russia)
Mixed Doubles:
    • Winner: Terry Hee (Singapore) and Tan Wei Han (Singapore)
    • Runner up: Chen Tang Jie (Malaysia) and Peck Yen Wei (Malaysia)
