5th National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration

⇒ Minister for State for Education Dr Subhas Sarkar presented 5th National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration.

The National Institute of Educational Planning and Administration (NIEPA) has instituted National Award for Innovations and Good Practices in Educational Administration for District and Block Level Education Officers.

» The fifth award presentation function was organised by NIEPA virtually on 10 February 2022.

    • The National Award or Certificate of Appreciation were presented to the selected District and Block level education officers from 29 states/ UTs of the country.
    • This year, more than hundred officers received Award or Certificate of Appreciation.
About:

The Scheme National Award for Innovation in Educational Administration for District and Block Level Education Officers was launched by NIEPA in 2014 with an aim to encourage innovations and good practices in educational administration at grassroot level for improving the functioning of the public system of education.

The main objective of this programme is to recognise innovative ideas and practices adopted by the district and block level education officers for effective management of the educational administrative system at the district and block levels and ensuring institutional development and performance at the school level.

14.5 km long Rail-cum-Road-bridge over Ganga River

⇒ Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari inaugurated 14.5 km long Rail-cum-Road-bridge over Ganga River approach project on NH 333B in Munger, Bihar at a cost of Rs.696 crore.

With the construction of this bridge, the distance from Munger to Khagaria will be less than 100 km and the distance from Munger to Begusarai will be less than 20 km.

This rail-cum-road-bridge will get rid of traffic jams, Fuel will be saved and traffic will accelerate.

One Ocean Summit

⇒ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the high-level segment of One Ocean Summit on 11th February 2022.

» The fifth edition of the One Planet Summit was entirely dedicated to the Ocean.

    • The ocean, which covers more than 70% of our planet, feeds us, regulate our climate, and generate most of the oxygen we breathe.
    • The ocean also serves as the foundation for much of the world’s economy, supporting sectors from tourism to fisheries to international shipping.

» The high-level segment of the Summit was also addressed by several Heads of States and Governments including Germany, United Kingdom, South Korea, Japan, Canada, among others.

Organised by:

One Ocean Summit was organised by France from 9-11 February, 2022 in Brest, France, in cooperation with the United Nations and the World Bank.

Aim:

The objective of the Summit was to mobilise the international community to take tangible action towards preserving and supporting healthy and sustainable ocean ecosystems.

15th edition of the ESPNcricinfo Awards

⇒ The 15th edition of the ESPNcricinfo Awards was announced for performances in calendar year 2021.

In the 15th edition of the ESPNcricinfo Awards, Indian wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant won the Men’s Test batting performance of the year. Pant won the award for his performance of an unbeaten 89 against Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2021.

    • Men’s Test bowling performance of the year: Kyle Jamieson (New Zealand)

» The ESPNcricinfo Awards recognise the best individual batting and bowling performances in cricket over the previous calendar year.

International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2022

⇒ International Day of Women and Girls in Science is observed every year on 11 February.

    • The day is implemented by UNESCO and UN-Women (link is external), in collaboration institutions and civil society partners. It aims to promote women and girls in science.
    • The 7th International Day of Women and Girls in Science was observed on 11 February 2022.
Theme:

The theme of the International Day of Women and Girls in Science 2022 was “Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion: Water Unites Us”.

History:
    • In order to achieve full and equal access to and participation in science for women and girls, and further achieve gender equality and the empowerment of women and girls, the UNGA declared 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science in 2015.
    • The United Nations General Assembly adopted resolution A/RES/70/212 to declare 11 February as the International Day of Women and Girls in Science.
Celebrations in India:

Atal Innovation Mission (AIM), NITI Aayog in collaboration with UNDP, India launched the Community Innovator Fellowship (CIF) marking the “International Day of Women & Girls in Science”.

    • The fellowship is developed as a pre-incubation model which will provide youth with an opportunity to establish their social enterprise focusing on Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) based solutions for solving community issues.
    • It is a one-year-long intensive fellowship program. It has been designed for an aspiring community innovator irrespective of their socio-economic background.

Veteran industrialist and former chairman of Bajaj Group, Rahul Bajaj

⇒ Veteran industrialist and former chairman of Bajaj Group, Rahul Bajaj died on 12 February 2022 in Pune. He was 83.

Rahul Bajaj had resigned as Bajaj Auto Chairman in April last year. However, he was appointed as firm’s Chairman Emeritus for five years.
