Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports announced the National Sports Awards 2022 on 14 November 2022.
The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu presented the National Sports and Adventure Awards 2022 (also known as National Sports Awards 2022) at a function held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi on 30 November 2022.
National Sports and Adventure Awards 2022 include Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Awards-2022, Dronacharya Awards-2022, Arjuna Awards-2022, Dhyan Chand Awards-2022, Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar-2022, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy-2022 and Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards-2021.
» This year, total 44 Awards have been presented in the National Sports and Adventure Awards, 2022.
The National Sports Awards 2022 (Sports and Adventure Awards 2022) have been given in the following categories:
About National Sports Awards:
- National Sports Awards are given every year to recognize and reward excellence in sports.
Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award:
‘Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award’ is given for the spectacular and most outstanding performance in the field of sports by a sportsperson over the period of the previous four years.
Arjuna Award:
‘Arjuna Award for outstanding performance in Sports and Games’ is given for good performance over a period of the previous four years and for showing qualities of leadership, sportsmanship and a sense of discipline.
Dronacharya Award:
‘Dronacharya Award for outstanding coaches in Sports and Games’ is given to coaches for doing outstanding and meritorious work on a consistent basis and for enabling sportspersons to excel in International events.
Dhyan Chand Award:
‘Dhyan Chand Award for Lifetime achievement in Sports and Games’ is given to honour sportspersons who have contributed to sports by their performance and who continue to contribute to promotion of sports event after their retirement.
Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar:
‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar’ is given to corporate entities (both in private and public sector), Sports Control Boards, NGOs, including sports bodies at the State and National level, who have played a visible role in the area of sports promotion and development.
Maulana Abul Kalam Azad Trophy:
The overall top performing university in inter-university tournaments is given the Maulana Abul Kalam Azad (MAKA) Trophy.

Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards for the year 2021
The Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India announced the National Adventure Awards called “Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Award” (TNNAA) for the year 2021.
About Award:
- The award is given in four categories namely, Land Adventure, Water Adventure, Air Adventure and Life Time Achievement.
- Awardees received statuettes, certificates and award money of Rs 15 lakh each.
- Tenzing Norgay National Adventure Awards are given every year to recognize the achievements of persons in the fields of adventure, to encourage young people to develop the spirit of endurance, risk–taking, cooperative teamwork and quick, ready and effective reflexes in challenging situations and to provide incentive to the young people for getting exposed to the adventure activities.
