Online Workshop for EMRS Principals and School Heads on “Education Transformation Framework”
⇒ National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS), organized an online workshop for Eklavya Model Residential School (EMRS) Principals and School Heads on “Education Transformation Framework” (ETF), in collaboration with Microsoft Corporation India Private Limited on 21st November, 2022.
Purpose:
» National Education Society for Tribal Students (NESTS) is an autonomous organization established under Ministry of Tribal Affairs (MoTA).
- NESTS, in its endeavor to impart quality education to tribal students, realizes the need of continuous enhancing technological skills of principals, teachers and students who shall leverage applied learning, multiple learning pathways, technology enabled pedagogy in tandem.
- The purpose of the workshop was to demonstrate insights from school leaders, system leaders, expert teachers & students and enable EMRS leaders to create transformation in their schools.
Key Points:
- In first phase, there are 36 EMRSs selected which shall walk their way forward to digitally transform schools and enhance the technological skills by use of Microsoft software and application.
- The current workshop was first in its journey of transformation, other components include professional development of teachers using Microsoft Technologies & AI applications; building exposure of students to AI & Coding; sharing of Coding Curriculum for Grade 6th to 12th & AI curriculum for Grade 8th to 12th; workshop on Microsoft Certified Educator (MCE) program etc.
Cyber Jaagrookta (Awareness) Diwas
⇒ The Cyber Security Cell, Department of Legal Affairs organised Cyber Jaagrookta (Awareness) Diwas from 7th November to 18th November 2022, for propagating cyber hygiene via a mass awareness campaign.
Further, to educate the staff and officers of the Department regarding the vulnerabilities in the digital domain, a sensitisation workshop was conducted so that they can keep themselves abreast of the current trends.
Key Activities:
- In view of the significance of digital transformation and to ensure the active and secure participation of all in the digital space, the Department of Legal Affairs observed Cyber Jaagrookta Diwas.
- As part of the Cyber Jaagrookta activities focused Social Media Campaign and a Cyber Quiz in association with MyGov was launched to generate awareness among the public regarding Cyber Safety, Cyber Hygiene, Cyber frauds, Phishing, Bullying, Virus attacks etc.
- To inculcate awareness among netizens regarding social media content targeting the end-user, best practices have been disseminated across all the social media platforms of the Ministry of Law & Justice.

13th Indian Navy (IN) - Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) bilateral exercise ‘Naseem Al Bahr’ (Sea Breeze)- 2022
⇒ The 13th Edition of the Indian Navy (IN) – Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) bilateral exercise ‘Naseem Al Bahr’ (Sea Breeze) was conducted off the coast of Oman from 19 to 24 November 2022.
The Indian Navy’s guided missile stealth frigate, INS Trikand, offshore patrol vessel, INS Sumitra, and Maritime Patrol Aircraft, (MPA) Dornier, participated in the exercise ‘Naseem Al Bahr’ 2022.
The exercise had three phases: harbour phase, sea phase and debrief.
» Activities undertaken during the harbour phase included professional interactions between IN and RNO operations teams and friendly sports fixtures between the two navies.
- IN Ships Trikand and Sumitra, along with RNO Ships Al Shinas and Al Seeb, sailed for the sea phase. IN – MPA Dornier, RNO MPA and shore based RAFO fighter aircraft Hawks joined the exercise at sea.
» The sea phase included tactical maritime exercise involving surface action, air defence, maritime surveillance and interdiction/VBSS.
- These operations helped in strengthening interoperability as well as enhancing understanding of each other’s procedures.
» The last phase of exercise, debrief, was conducted at the RNO Naval Base at Duqm on 23 November 2022.
India and Oman have traditionally enjoyed warm and friendly relations, sharing common cultural values. Naval exercises have added strength and substance to these bilateral ties.
» The first IN-RNO exercise was conducted in 1993. This year marks 30 years of IN-RNO bilateral exercises.
About Ships:
- INS Trikand, a frontline frigate, is equipped with a versatile range of weapons and sensors. The ship is a part of the Indian Navy’s Western Fleet, based at Mumbai.
- INS Sumitra, a multirole offshore patrol vessel is part of the Eastern Fleet of the Indian Navy, based at Visakhapatnam.
New Prime Minister of Malaysia
⇒ Long-time Malaysian statesman Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim has been sworn in as the country’s new prime minister in November 2022. Anwar Ibrahim has been appointed Malaysia’s 10th prime minister.
- 2022 Malaysian general election were held in Malaysia on 19 November 2022.
2022 Malaysian General Election:
- In election, Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan coalition — the largest in the country — won the highest number of parliamentary seats at 82 but still fell short of 112, the number required to form government. Incumbent ruling coalition Perikatan Nasional was in second place with 73 seats.
- Mr Anwar’s Pakatan Harapan (PH) party, which won the biggest share of seats in election’s vote, did not have enough seats on its own to form a government.
- In the end it was left to Malaysia’s constitutional monarch, King Abdullah, to summon all the leaders to the palace to try to find sufficient common ground.
- Finally, the confidence motion of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim was passed in the Parliament.
Special meeting of UN Country Team (UNCT) on CoP 27
⇒ The Union Minister of Environment Forest and Climate Change Shri Bhupender Yadav addressed the special United Nations Country Team (UNCT) on the key themes and takeaways from CoP 27 at UN House, on 24 November 2022.
- The meeting was followed by the inauguration of the Climate Change Photo Exhibition with the Swiss Embassy at the UN House in New Delhi.
» Union Minister discussed how the United Nations agencies can take Mission LiFE – Lifestyles for Environment, a mantra given by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the masses.
- COP27 has established a 4-year work program on climate action in agriculture and food security. Agriculture, the mainstay of livelihoods of millions of smallholder farmers, will be hard hit from climate change.
About UN Country Team:
- The United Nations Country Team (UNCT) exists in 132 countries, covering all of the 162 countries where there are United Nations programmes.
- The UNCT includes all the UN entities working on sustainable development, emergency, recovery and transition in programme countries.
- The UNCT is led by the UN Resident Coordinator, who is the representative of the UN Secretary-General in a given country.
- The UNCT ensures interagency coordination and decision-making at the country level.
- The goal is to plan and work together, as part of the Resident Coordinator system, to ensure the delivery of tangible results in support of the development agenda of the Government, including the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework. UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework guides the UN country team’s development programme cycle, in joint agreement with the host government.
Resident Coordinator system:
- The Resident Coordinator system ensures the coordination of all organizations of the United Nations dealing with operational activities for development at the country level, regardless of the nature of their presence in the country.
- It encompasses the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Country Team and Resident Coordinator’s Office and is served by the UN Development Coordination Office.
