27th National Youth Festival 2024
⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the 27th National Youth Festival (NYF) in Nashik, Maharashtra on 12 January 2024.
He also witnessed a march past by the state’s team and a cultural program on the theme of ‘Viksit Bharat @ 2047 – Yuva ke liye, Yuva ke dwara’ which included Rhythmic gymnastics, Mallakhamb, Yogasana and National Youth Festival song.
National Youth Festival 2024:
» The National Youth Festival is organized every year from 12th to 16th January, with the 12th of January being the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
- 12th of January 2024 marks the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda, and is celebrated as National Youth Day.

The host state of National Youth Festival 2024 was Maharashtra.
Theme:
The theme of the National Youth Festival 2024 was “Viksit Bharat@ 2047: युवा के लिए, युवा के द्वारा.”
Key Points:
- NYF seeks to create a forum where youth from different regions of India can share their experiences and strengthen foundations for a united nation, in the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.
- About 7500 youth delegates from across the country participated in the NYF at Nashik.
- Various events including cultural performances, indigenous sports, Declamation & Thematic Based Presentation, Young Artist Camp, Poster Making, Story Writing, Youth Convention, Food Festival etc. were organized.
27th National Youth Award 2020-21
» The 27th National Youth Award 2020-21 was successfully held in Nashik on January 15, 2024, during the 4th day of the National Festival.
The National Youth Award is conferred upon individuals aged 15 to 29 for outstanding contributions in the fields of national or social service. This award aims to instill a sense of responsibility towards their community, fostering personal growth as responsible citizens.

National Startup Awards 2023 and 4th States’ Startup Ranking
⇒ With an aim to bring together the country’s startups, entrepreneurs, investors, policymakers, and other stakeholders, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT), Ministry of Commerce and Industry, organised the Startup India Innovation Week 2024 from 10th January 2024 to 18th January 2024 to celebrate the Indian Startup Ecosystem and the National Startup Day.
Highlights:
- Eight virtual Ask Me Anything (AMA) live sessions were conducted from 10th to 17th January 2024 with startup ecosystem enablers including incubators and accelerators, investors, mentors, unicorns, corporates, startups, academia, and government to build capacity of the ecosystem.
- Further, 5 dedicated mentorship sessions focused on ‘How to Start Up’ were conducted, focused on capacity building of aspiring entrepreneurs and student entrepreneurs on topics such as understanding business structures, processes to incorporate an entity, and building a business plan.
National Startup Awards 2023 and 4th States’ Startup Ranking:
» On 16th January 2024, as part of the National Startup Day celebrations, DPIIT organized the result declaration and felicitation ceremony for the National Startup Awards 2023 and the 4th edition of the States’ Startup Ranking Framework, two of the flagship initiatives under Startup India.
4th States’ Startup Ranking:
- This edition’s ranking exercise saw the highest-ever participation with 33 States and UTs participating.
- A ‘National Report’ encompassing the full exercise, along with a ‘Compendium of Best Practices’ and individual ‘State Report’ for all participating states was also launched, celebrating the spirit of entrepreneurship in India with a total of 31 States/UTs having formulated State Startup Policies.
- Moreover, in this fourth edition of States Ranking, 3102 startups received funding worth INR 392 crore. 95 Capacity Building and Knowledge Exchange Workshops were organised from August 2021 to December 2022.
States Startup Ranking Framework 2022 Results:
» For the purpose of evaluation, the States and UTs were divided into two categories with category A including States and UTs with a population of more than 1 crore, and category B including States and UTs with a population of less than 1 crore.
- Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerela, Tamil Nadu were the Best Performers in category A, while Himachal Pradesh emerged as the Best Performers in category B.
- The governments of Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan, Telangana, Punjab emerged as top performers in Category A, while Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya championed as top performers in Category B.
National Startup Awards 2023:
- The participants were evaluated across 7 broad Reform Areas consisting of 25 Action Points ranging from Institutional Support, Fostering Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Access to Market, Incubation and Mentorship support, Funding Support, Capacity building of enablers & Roadmap to a sustainable future.
- 15% of the total scores were awarded based on 10,000+ survey responses collected in 9 languages (telephonic and web-based).
Background:
National Startup Day:
- The Startup India initiative was launched by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi on 16th January 2016 to build a strong ecosystem for nurturing innovation, boosting startups, and encouraging investments in the startup ecosystem of the country.
- Emphasising and promoting recognition of startups contributing towards nation building, socio economic development, and self-reliance, the Prime Minister in 2022, declared 16th January the National Startup Day.
National Startup Awards:
- The National Startup Awards is an initiative to recognize and reward outstanding startups and ecosystem enablers that are building innovative products or solutions and scalable enterprises, with high potential of employment generation or wealth creation, demonstrating measurable social impact.
States’ Startup Ranking:
- The States’ Startup Ranking is a periodic capacity building exercise developed and released by DPIIT that evaluates States and UTs on their efforts to build an ecosystem conducive to growth of startups.
- The major objectives of the ranking exercise are – facilitating States and UTs to identify, learn and replace good practices, highlighting the policy intervention by States and UTs for promoting startup ecosystem and fostering competitiveness among states.
