Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated Grameen Bharat Mahotsav 2025 at Bharat Mandapam, New Delhi on 04 January 2025.
He also addressed the gathering on the occasion. He said the grand organization of the Grameen Bharat Mahotsav in the beginning of the year is giving a glimpse of the development journey of India and creating an identity of the same. He congratulated National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) and other associates for the organization of the event.
Celebrating Rural India’s entrepreneurial spirit and cultural heritage, the Mahotsav was held from 4th to 9th January, 2025.

The Mahotsav was an initiative of the Department of Financial Services (DFS) and National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD). It was a celebration of ‘Rural India – the soul of India.’
Theme of Grameen Bharat Mahotsav 2025:
‘Building a Resilient Rural India for a Viksit Bharat 2024‘ was the theme of the Mahotsav.
Motto of Grameen Bharat Mahotsav 2025:
“गांव बढ़े, तो देश बढ़े” was the motto of the Mahotsav.
Objective of Grameen Bharat Mahotsav 2025:
- The aim of the Mahotsav was to celebrate Rural India’s entrepreneurial spirit and cultural heritage.
- The Mahotsav, through various discussions, workshops and masterclasses, aimed to enhance rural infrastructure, create self-reliant economies, and foster innovation within rural communities.
- Its objectives included promoting economic stability and financial security among rural populations, with a special focus on North-East India, by addressing financial inclusion and supporting sustainable agricultural practices.
Significant focuses of the Grameen Bharat Mahotsav:
- Empower rural women through entrepreneurship
- Brought together government officials, thought leaders, rural entrepreneurs, artisans and stakeholders from diverse sectors to build a roadmap for collaborative and collective rural transformation
- Encouraged discussions around leveraging technology and innovative practices to enhance rural livelihoods; and
- Showcased India’s rich cultural heritage through vibrant performances and exhibitions
Exhibition of Grameen Bharat Mahotsav 2025:
» A wide spectrum of rural products was exhibited, from Geographical Indication (GI)-certified goods to organic and tribal products.
» Rural Women Entrepreneurs, Bihar (Nari Shakti Jeevika SHG, West Champaran) exhibited handmade Sikki Grass Crafts.
Sikki Grass Craft:
Sikki grass crafts are GI-registered products made from a unique kind of grass known as sikki, found in Bihar and UP.
- Skilled artisans use it to create beautiful, intricate pieces like sikki grass mats, sikki baskets, sikki decor items, etc.
