Nationwide “Jaan Hai To Jahaan Hai” Awareness Campaign

⇒ Minority Affairs Minister Shri Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi launched a nationwide “Jaan Hai To Jahaan Hai” awareness campaign on 21 June 2021 to create awareness on Corona vaccination in rural and remote areas of the country.

The campaign will also to “Crush and Curb” the rumours and apprehensions, being spread by some vested interests regarding the on-going vaccination drive.

This awareness campaign was launched by the Ministry of Minority Affairs, along with various Socio-Educational Organisations, NGOs and Women Self Help Groups.

The nationwide awareness campaign has been launched from the Primary Health Centre, Chamraua in Rampur, Uttar Pradesh. It will also be organised in different parts of the country.

The Minority Affairs Minister said, under the campaign various religious leaders, prominent people from social, educational, cultural, medical, science and other fields are giving effective messages to the people to get vaccinated.

He also said that street plays would also be organised across the country as part of the campaign.

Special Director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI)

⇒ The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has promoted 14 senior IPS officers as the special director of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), following a proposal submitted by the Union ministry of home affairs.

Among the 14 senior IPS officers, the current CBI Additional Director Praveen Sinha has also been named as the special director of CBI.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed Praveen Sinha as the Special Director of CBI for a tenure up to his superannuation on April 30, 2022 from the date of assumption of charge, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.

Solar Thermal Forward Osmosis (FO) Sea Water Desalination System

⇒ Narippaiyur village in Ramanathapuram District is a drought prone area situated in the South-East corner of Tamil Nadu.

In this area, Tamil Nadu IIT Madras in collaboration with Empereal – KGDS Renewable Energy have successfully established and demonstrated the solar thermal Forward Osmosis (FO) sea water desalination system.

This system is meant to address the prevalent and emerging water challenges in the village. The system will provide 20,000 litres per day of fresh water produced from sea water.

HYSEA Women Leaders’ Forum

⇒ Dr. (Smt.) Tamilisai Soundararajan, Governor of Telangana & Lt. Governor of Puducherry, launched HYSEA Women Leaders’ Forum on 24 June 2021 from Puducherry.

Hyderabad Software Enterprises Association (HYSEA) Women Leaders’ Forum will consist of accomplished women leaders and also men leaders, from across the industry.

The forum will provide not only thought leadership but mentorship to young and upcoming women leaders of the IT/ITES Industry. The forum will also serve as an important networking platform for women leaders.

2021 PEN/Audible Literary Service Award

⇒ Henry Louis Gates Jr. is the recipient of the 2021 PEN/Audible Literary Service Award, to be bestowed at this year’s PEN America Literary Gala.

Gates Jr. is the Alphonse Fletcher University Professor and Director of the Hutchins Center for African & African American Research at Harvard University. He has worked on a wide range of books and films.

PEN America announced that Nobel laureate Nigerian writer, poet, and playwright Wole Soyinka will present the PEN/Audible Literary Service Award to Henry Louis Gates Jr. at the organization’s 2021 Literary Gala celebration on October 5, 2021 in New York City.

Saudi Aramco's Chairman as an Independent Director at Reliance

⇒ Saudi Aramco chairman and Governor of the Kingdom’s wealth fund Public Investment Fund, Yasir Al-Rumayyan, has been inducted into the board of Reliance Industries Ltd as an Independent Director.

Reliance had announced a sale of a 20% stake in its oil-to-chemicals business for $15 billion in 2019 to Aramco, the world’s top oil exporting firm.

⇒ The 10th edition of Reuters Institute for the Study of Journalism’s Digital News Report, 2021, was released virtually on June 23, 2021.

The 10th edition of the report is based on the findings of the online survey of 46 media markets to understand how news is consumed in different countries. This year study was focused on trust in news and featured India for the first time in its main report.

Rank of India:

India ranked 31 out of 46 countries on levels of overall trust in news. Only 38% of the respondents from India said they trust news overall.

Death

Noted photographer & filmmaker, Sivan

⇒ Noted photographer & filmmaker Sivan passed away. He was 89.

Sivan was the first press photographer in Kerala. Sivan directed ‘Abhayam’ in 1991, which bagged the national film award for the Best Children’s film.

‘Abhayam’, ‘Yagam’, ‘Mohangal’, ‘Kilivaathil, Keshu’, ‘Oru Yathra’ are among his notable works.

Former Philippine President, Benigno Aquino

⇒ Former Philippine President Benigno Aquino died on 24 June 2021 in Manila. He was 61. Aquino was the president of the Philippines from 2010 to 2016.
