National:

CSIR Floriculture Mission

  • Recently, CSIR Floriculture Mission has been approved for implementation in 21 States and Union Territories of India.
    The Union Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan launched the “CSIR Floriculture Mission” through virtual mode in New Delhi on 4 March 2021.
This Mission is being implemented in collaboration with following Government bodies:
    • Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR)-Directorate of Floriculture
    • Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC)
    • Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA),
      Ministry of Commerce
    • Tribal Cooperative Marketing Development Federation of India Ltd. (TRIFED)
    • Fragrance and Flavour Development Centre (FFDC), Kannauj
    • Ministry of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME)
    • Universities

On this occasion, Dr. Harsh Vardhan also launched CSIR’s Societal Portal along with the Android App. This portal has been developed by CSIR Team with the help of MyGov Team. The Portal is to facilitate the public to submit the societal problems that can be resolved using S&T interventions.

Author Anuja Chauhan's sixth Book:

  • Author Anuja Chauhan’s sixth and first Murder Mystery Book “Club You To Death” was published on 26 February 2021 by HarperCollins India.

51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019

  • The Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Shri Prakash Javadekar announced the recipient of the 51st Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019, on 01 April 2021.

The prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2019 will be conferred to legendary actor Shri Rajinikanth. The award will be presented on 3rd May, 2021 along with the National Film Awards.

He had also been honoured with the Padma Bhushan & Padma Vibhushan in the past.

New Delhi World Book Fair 2021

  • Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ inaugurated the New Delhi World Book Fair 2021 – Virtual Edition on 5 March 2021.

New Delhi World Book Fair 2021-Virtual Edition was organized from March 6 to March 9, 2021 by the National Book Trust, India.

The theme of the New Delhi World Book Fair 2021 was ‘National Education Policy- 2020’.

During the New Delhi World Book Fair 2021, NBT hosted a multitude of Authors, Writers and Educationists, over 20+ webinars, seminars and conclaves to discuss the new education policy.

DRDO conducted Flight Demonstration based on SFDR

  • Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) successfully carried out a flight demonstration based on Solid Fuel Ducted Ramjet (SFDR) technology from Integrated Test Range Chandipur off the coast of Odisha on March 05, 2021.

International:

2023 as the International Year of Millets

  • The 193-member UN General Assembly adopted by consensus a resolution sponsored by India and supported by over 70 nations.

The UNGA unanimously declared 2023 as the ‘International Year of Millets’.

Russia's first satellite to monitor the Arctic's climate and environment:

  • Russia’s space corporation, Roscosmos said, Russia has successfully launched its first satellite to monitor the Arctic’s climate and environment.

A Soyuz-2.1b carrier rocket with the “Arktika-M” satellite on board blasted off on 28 February 2021 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan. The satellite ‘Arktika-M’ will provide continuous monitoring of the Northern Territory of Russia and the seas of the Arctic Ocean.

Technology:

Google's beta version of Jetpack Compose:

  • Google has launched the beta version of Jetpack Compose, a toolkit for writing user interfaces for Android Apps. It will help developers to build Android App faster.
