National:
National Horticulture Fair 2021
- A five-day national horticulture fair was held in Bengaluru by the Indian Council for Agricultural Research (ICAR) – Indian Institute of Horticultural Research (IIHR) from 8 February to 12 February, 2021.
The national fair was organised under the theme of “Horticulture for Start-up and Stand-up India”.
The fair featured with stalls from public and private sectors, live demonstrations of improved varieties and technologies, farmers-entrepreneurs-scientists interactions, sale of seeds, planting material and products from ICAR-IIHR and other public and private firms.
Srivilliputhur Megamalai Tiger Reserve in Tamil Nadu:
- Srivilliputhur Megamalai Tiger Reserve is the fifth tiger reserve in Tamil Nadu. This tiger reserve will be the 51st in the country.
State Forests Secretary Sandeep Saxena has declared the creation of this Tiger Reserve on 8 February 2021.
An area of 1,01,657.13 hectares in Srivilliputhur Grizzled Giant Squirrel Sanctuary and Megamalai Wildlife Sanctuary have been combined to create the Srivilliputhur Megamalai tiger reserve, spread across the districts of Theni, Virudhunagar and Madurai.
Wildlife Service Award:
- Sanjay Molur, 52 year-old, based in Coimbatore, conservation biologist, won the Wildlife Service Award from the Sanctuary Nature Foundation.
International:
PayPal will Shut Domestic Payment Service in India:
- California-based company, PayPal Holdings said, we will wind down its domestic payments business in India from April 1, 2021. It means PayPal will no longer offer domestic payment services within India from 1 April.
Death:
- Indian Kathakali artist from Kerala, Mathoor Govindan Kutty was died in Kottayam on 4 February 2021. He was 81. He was conferred with ‘Sangeet Natak Akademi Award’ in 2005 & ‘Kerala State Award for best Kathakali Artist’ in 2011.
