AMRITPEX 2023 - National Philatelic Exhibition

⇒ The Minister for Communications, Electronics & Information Technology and Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw inaugurated AMRITPEX 2023 – National Philatelic Exhibition on 11 February 2023.

Organized by:

AMRITPEX 2023, National Philatelic Exhibition was organised by the Department of Posts under the Ministry of Communications to showcase India’s rich culture, heritage and history through stamps.

Department of Posts after a period of more than a decade organized, AMRITPEX 2023 was organized in consultation with the Ministry of Culture and Philatelic Congress of India and designed and crafted as a visual and interactive treat for children and youth.

» This five-day Mahakumbh of Stamps was held from 11th to 15th February, 2023 in Hall 05, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. It was organized as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav Celebrations.

» An Exhibition on the Transformative Journey of India Post was also inaugurated on this occasion.

    • The Exhibition on the Transformative Journey of India Post showcased the emerging role of post offices in enriching citizens’ lives at the last mile and digitization of the postal system.
Key Highlights:

During the exhibition, a number of workshops, seminars, panel discussions and cultural events and activities for children, release of commemorative postage stamps, release of special covers and picture postcards were organized.

    • The exhibition saw participation of more than 25,000 children, Stamp lovers, and tourists. Children from more than 125 schools of Delhi NCR visited the exhibition and participated in activities like Letter Writing, Art & Painting, Calligraphy, Mandala art, stamp design etc.
Opening ceremony:

» The opening ceremony of the event was graced by the Minister for Communications, Electronics & IT and Railways, Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw and the Minister of State for Communications, Shri Devusinh Chauhan.

    • Speaking on the occasion, Shri Devusinh Chauhan said that AMRITPEX is the national platform to highlight and display the 5000 years old rich history and culture of this great nation.

» The opening ceremony of AMRITPEX 2023 was attended by a large number of school students and philatelists from all parts of the country.

    • The exhibition displayed more than 20,000 exhibits under 13 competitive categories and invitees. A special section on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav was also included with encouraging participation by youth and budding philatelists.

Commemorative Postage Stamp on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav:

During the opening ceremony the Minister released a commemorative postage stamp on “Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav”. The Department of Posts released a Commemorative Postage Stamp on Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

    • This stamp has been designed from the best entries of the national wide design competition in which more than 4 lakh students participated.
    • This competition was organized at Pan India level in partnership with the Department of School Education and the Ministry of Culture, Government of India.
    • The national winners of this competition were also felicitated during the event.

» The minister also dedicated to the nation the record of “Securing the future of more than 10 lakh girl child through opening of Sukanya Samriddhi accounts in various post offices in a short span of two days”.

    • Emboldening the dominant role of Department of Posts in securing the future of girl child, the department opened more than 10 lakh Sukanya Samriddhi Accounts on 9th & 10th Feb 2023, as a tribute to Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao and Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

» During the exhibition the department released a series of special covers on Nari Shakti, Yuva Shakti, International Year of Millets 2023, Nature & Wildlife of India and Unsung Heroes. A set of picture postcards “Flavours of Delhi” were also released during the event.

    • The exhibition brought to the front the rich culture, heritage, history, nature, wildlife and achievements of India through stamps, letter writing and virtual displays.
    • The exhibition was also an opportunity for the winners to participate in various International Philatelic Exhibitions and showcase their collections.

On the 2nd day of the exhibition, a set of 8 sets were issued on “Bridal Costumes of India” in the august presence of Shovana Narayan, renowned kathak dancer.

On the 3rd day of the exhibition, Enhancing its role in popularizing GI products in the country, a set of 12 commemorative stamps in souvenir sheet “Geographical Indications: Agricultural Goods” were also released.

» AMRITPEX 2023 was Divyang enabled exhibition with a sensorial zone for visually impaired visitors. A special letter writing competition was organized in braille. A sign language expert was placed on stage to make all stage happening accessible for the hearing impaired.

» A brilliant show on youth parliament was the centre of attraction on the 4th day of AMRITPEX 2023. The youth parliament had an active discussion on the subject such as National Youth Policy, Foreign Policy, etc.

On the last day of the 5-day event, an international round table and panel discussion on “Postal Services: A tool for global socio-economic development and connect” was conducted. It came out during the discussion that the postal network has an important role in financial inclusion and logistics and supply chain management.

More than 250 participants of AMRITPEX received awards under various categories.
    • Champions Trophy was awarded to Mr. Piyush Khaitan.
    • The gold medal was awarded to Ms Damyanti Pittie, Mr Santhosh M S, Mr Rajesh Jhunjhunwala, Mr. Narendra Saboo, Ms Ananya Kasaravalli, Mr. K S Mohan.
    • Mr E.P James was awarded the Secretary’s trophy and Ms Poorva Bansal was awarded DG’s trophy.

International

3rd G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting

⇒ The 3rd G20 Tourism Working Group Meeting under India’s G20 Presidency was held from May 22 to 24, 2023 in Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir.

    • There were two key deliverables of the Tourism Working Group, which included the Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a vehicle for achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs) and the G20 Tourism Ministers’ Declaration.
    • This was the only working group meeting that took place in Srinagar as part of the G20 effort with excellent response from all the member countries. Compared to the first two Tourism Working Group meetings in Rann of Kutch and Siliguri, all the invited countries and international organizations registered the highest participation.
The 3rd Tourism Working Group Meeting deliberated on the five key priority areas namely:
    1. Green Tourism
    2. Digitalization
    3. Skills
    4. MSMEs
    5. Destination Management

» These priorities are key building blocks for accelerating the transition of the tourism sector and achieving the targets for Sustainable Development Goals.

Day 1:

Side Event:

» The first day of the meeting kicked off with a side event focused on enhancing film tourism to promote economic growth & cultural preservation. It also highlighted the impact of film tourism on the development & promotion of destinations.

Union Minister of State (I/C) Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh and Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and the Development of the North Eastern Region, Shri G Kishan Reddy addressed the side event. The Side event was held on ‘Film Tourism for Economic Growth and Cultural Preservation’.

Draft National Strategy for Film Tourism:

During the occasion, Draft National Strategy for Film Tourism was unveiled in the presence of Dr Jitendra Singh, Shri G Kishan Reddy, Shri K Ram Charan, Shri Amitabh Kant, Shri Apurva Chandra (Secretary, Ministry of I&B) and Shri Harsh Vardhan Shringla (G20 Chief Coordinator).

» On the sidelines, a panel discussion aligned with the 5th priority of the Tourism Working Group on Destination Management highlighted the challenges associated with country-specific enablers adopted for promoting destinations through films and also emphasised the impact of film tourism on these destinations.

Day 2:

Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the 3rd Tourism Working Group Meeting at SKICC Srinagar.

    • The inaugural ceremony was attended by the delegates of G20 nations, international organisations and invited countries.

Speaking on the occasion, Lieutenant Governor J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha said, under India’s G20 Presidency, the G20 tourism working group is focusing on five inter-connected priority areas that will provide a roadmap for tourism as a tool for achieving sustainable development goals.

Side Event:

Union Minister of State Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh, Union Minister of Culture, Tourism and the Development of the North Eastern Region, Shri G. Kishan Reddy addressed the side event.

The side event was held on the theme ‘Promoting Incredible India through Film Tourism’ on the sidelines of 3rd Tourism Working Group Meeting.

    • The side event was also attended by the Secretary, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, Government of India, Shri Apurva Chandra.
    • The side event on Tourism was aimed at furthering the scope of the film tourism sector and highlighting all the aspects of Incredible India.
There were two sessions held on the following topics:
    1. The first session was on ‘Goa Roadmap for Tourism as a Vehicle for Achieving SDGs’, which will guide policymaking in the Tourism sector in line with the UN’s Agenda 2030.
    2. The second session saw delegates discussing the Draft Outcome Document presented by G20 India – the ‘G20 Tourism Ministers’ Declaration 2023′. This aims to guide respective national policies & strengthen international cooperation for further development of the Tourism sector.

» Further, Union Minister Shri G Kishan Reddy & MoS Dr. Jitendra Singh launched the Travel for LiFE Programme which follows an actionable & innovative approach for India to bring change in demand & supply dynamics, fostering a paradigm shift towards sustainability.

Day 3:

On Day 3, delegates started their day with a calming yoga session & later explored the rich culture of J&K through elaborate excursions to the famous Nishat Bagh, Polo View Market & Pari Mahal.

Other Highlights:

An exhibition organised on the sidelines of the 3rd TWG Meet showcased an array of traditional handicrafts from the culturally rich region of Jammu & Kashmir. G20 India delegates admired the exquisite craftsmanship & intricate designs that adorned each unique piece.

India-ASEAN Digital Work Plan 2023

⇒ The 3rd ASEAN Digital Ministers (ADGMIN) meeting with India was held on 10 February 2023 on a virtual platform.

Chaired by:

The Minister of State for Communications (MoSC), Shri Devusinh Chauhan, and Mr Ivan John E Uy, Secretary, Department of Information and Communication Technology, Philippines co-chaired the meeting.

The Minister said that India is eager to collaborate with member states of ASEAN to advance Information and Communication Technologies in the region, aiming towards shared prosperity.

India-ASEAN Digital Work Plan 2023:

» The India-ASEAN Digital Work Plan 2023 was approved at the 3rd ASEAN Digital Ministers (ADGMIN) meeting.

    • The workplan includes the capacity building and knowledge sharing in emerging areas in the field of Information and Communication Technologies such as Artificial Intelligence in Cyber Security, Application of IoT & AI in Next Generation Smart City & Society 5.0, Sustainable Data and Transport Network for Future: Standards and Applications, 5G technologies for IoT and future trends, Role of ICT in implementation of Digital Health and Security protection and assessment for future network, etc.
    • The ongoing and proposed projects in ICTs, will strengthen collaboration between India and ASEAN by leveraging complementary strengths of each other.
Other Points:
    • In 2022, ASEAN India Friendship Year was celebrated, commemorating 30th anniversary of establishment of dialogue relations with ASEAN which culminated into ASEAN and India elevating Strategic Partnership to the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership (CSP).
    • Under the theme: “Synergy Towards a Sustainable Digital Future”, the meeting had fruitful and productive discussions on strengthening India ASEAN relations in the field of Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs).
