75th Amrut Mahotsav of Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan

⇒ The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed the 75th Amrut Mahotsav of Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan via video conferencing on 24 December 2022.

Addressing the gathering, the Prime Minister congratulated everyone associated with Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan on the completion of 75 years and praised the efforts of Shastriji Maharaj Shri Dharmajivandasji Swami for his tremendous efforts in this journey. The Prime Minister remarked that by just remembering the name of Bhagwan Shri Swami Narayan, one could experience new consciousness.

Background:
    • Shree Swaminarayan Gurukul Rajkot Sansthan was established at Rajkot in 1948 by Gurudev Shastriji Maharaj Shri Dharmajivandasji Swami.
    • The Sansthan has expanded and currently has more than 40 branches all over the world, providing facilities for school, undergraduate and postgraduate education to more than 25,000 students.

The Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022

⇒ The Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed unanimously by the Rajya Sabha on 14 December 2022 wrt state of Uttar Pradesh.

About Bill:
    • The Constitution (Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022 seeks to amend the Constitution (Scheduled Castes) Order, 1950 and the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) (Uttar Pradesh) Order, 1967 to exclude Gond community as a Scheduled Caste in four districts of Uttar Pradesh: (i) Chandauli, (ii) Kushinagar, (iii) Sant Kabir Nagar, and (iv) Bhadohi and recognise them as a Scheduled Tribe in these four districts.
    • After the passing of this Bill, the Bill will include the transfer of Gond community from list of SCs to STs and inclusion of Dhuria, Nayak, Ojha, Pathari and Rajgond in the list of STs of Uttar Pradesh in the four districts of Sant Kabir Nagar, Kushinagar, Chandauli and Bhadohi.

The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2022

⇒ In relation to the state of Karnataka, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Fourth Amendment) Bill, 2022, was passed unanimously in Rajya Sabha on 22 December 2022. The bill was earlier passed by the Lok Sabha on 19 December 2022.

About Bill:
    • The Bill seeks to further amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in relation to the State of Karnataka to include Betta-Kuruba as a synonym for the Kadu Kuruba community in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka.
    • After passing of this Bill in the Parliament, the Bill will include Betta-Kuruba as a synonym for the Kadu Kuruba community in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Karnataka.

The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022

⇒ The Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022 was passed by the Lok Sabha on 15 December 2022 wrt state of Tamil Nadu. In relation to the state of Tamil Nadu, the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order (Second Amendment) Bill, 2022, was passed unanimously in Rajya Sabha on 22 December 2022.

About Bill:
    • The Bill seeks to further amend the Constitution (Scheduled Tribes) Order, 1950 to modify the list of Scheduled Tribes in the State of Tamil Nadu to include the Narikoravan and Kurivikkaran communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Tamil Nadu.
    • The Order lists the tribal communities deemed to be Scheduled Tribes in states and Union Territories. After the passing of this Bill in the Parliament, the Bill will include the Narikoravan and Kurivikkaran communities in the list of Scheduled Tribes in Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister of Fiji

⇒ Sitiveni Rabuka has been elected as Fiji’s new Prime Minister, the country’s parliament announced on 24 December 2022. Mr Sitiveni Rabuka has become the 12th Prime Minister of Fiji.

Rabuka is the leader of the People’s Alliance, a political party in Fiji formed in 2021. Rabuka was elected by 28 votes on the floor of parliament, whereas Fiji First Leader Voreqe Bainimarama garnered 27 votes. Fiji’s Social Democratic Liberal Party joined forces with Rabuka’s People’s Alliance and the National Federation Party.

Good Governance Day 2022

⇒ Each year, India observes Good Governance Day on 25 December, in honor of former Indian Prime Minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee’s birthday.

    • The purpose of Good Governance Day is to increase public access to various government programmes and services via good governance.
History:
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2014 announced that “Good Governance Day” will be observed annually on December 25 in memory of the former Prime Minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee.
    • The government has been commemorating Good Governance Day every year since 2014.
    • Good Governance Day was established with the slogan “Good Governance through e-Governance.”
    • The Indian government decided that every year December 25 would be a full day of work.
    • The day is celebrated to make sure that the country’s residents are treated fairly by the government and they receive the advantages of various government services.

About Former Prime Minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee:

    • Good Governance Day is devoted to former prime minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee.
    • Atal Vihari Vajpayee, the former prime minister was born on December 25, 1924, in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
    • He was elected three times as the nation’s prime minister. In 1996, he was elected as the nation’s Prime Minister for the first time. In 1998–1999, he was elected prime minister for a second term. On October 13, 1999, he was elected as the nation’s prime minister for the third time.
    • Significantly, former prime minister Atal Vihari Vajpayee was the first head of state to address the UN in Hindi.
    • The “Bharat Ratna” award was given to him on March 27, 2015.
