Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi inaugurated the Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023 in Lucknow on 10 February 2023. He also inaugurated the Global Trade Show and launched Invest UP 2.0 during the programme.

Uttar Pradesh Global Investors Summit 2023 held from 10-12 February 2023. It is the flagship investment summit of the Government of Uttar Pradesh.
    • It brought together policy makers, industry leaders, academia, think-tanks and leaders from across the world to collectively explore business opportunities and forge partnerships.
    • Investor UP 2.0 is a comprehensive, investor centric and service-oriented investment ecosystem in Uttar Pradesh that endeavours to deliver relevant, well defined, standardised services to investors.
Partner Country:

Many progressive economies like the United States of America, United Kingdom, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Singapore, Germany, The Netherlands and UAE have committed become the ‘Partner Country’.

Sessions:

UPGIS 2023 witnessed Sector Specific Knowledge Sessions, Partner Country Sessions, B2B/B2G/G2G Meetings, Networking Meets, Innovation Exhibition with global tech-products being displayed from across the world, art & craft representation of Uttar Pradesh, cultural programs among other elements.

Focus Sectors were:

» Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation, Shri Amit Shah addressed the Global Investors Summit-2023’s session on “Strengthening of MSMEs and Cooperatives” in Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh on 10 February.

    • He said that the development of Uttar Pradesh is very important to fulfill Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s dream of 5 trillion-dollar economy. Therefore, taking Uttar Pradesh forward means accelerating India’s development.

» Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh called for more investment in Uttar Pradesh & Tamil Nadu Defence Industrial Corridors (DICs) to achieve ‘Make in India, Make for the World’ as envisioned by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi for shared global prosperity.

    • Raksha Mantri addressed a parallel sectoral session ‘Advantage Uttar Pradesh: Defence Corridor’, organised as part of Uttar Pradesh Global Investors’ Summit.
    • He urged the defence sector companies to increase their investment and emphasis more on R&D to take the defence industry to newer heights and ensure overall growth of the country.
    • Industry leaders and other stakeholders actively participated in the seminar and presented their suggestions to promote private participation in Defence Industry and give a boost to Indian Defence Manufacturing.

» The President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu addressed the Valedictory Session of UP Global Investors Summit-2023 on 12 February.

Highlights:

» Ahead of UPGIS 2023, the Government of Uttar Pradesh launched a new online system namly ‘Nivesh Sarathi’ for signing Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) and monitoring their implementation.

» During the three-day summit, a total of 18,643 Memorandum of Understanding (MoUs) for investment intents, worth Rs 33.50 lakh crore, were signed by UP government.

    • “Renewable energy” turned out to be an upcoming area attracting maximum investment intents, leaving behind “electronics manufacturing” – which has been always the top sector of investment in the state.
    • Renewable investment secured 12.41 per cent of the total intent amounting to Rs 3.58 lakh crore.
    • Industrial Parks drew about 11.35 per cent, while Higher Education got 9 per cent (Rs 2.57 lakh crore).
    • Manufacturing got close to Rs 2 lakh crore; and Logistics & Warehousing Rs 1.59 lakh crore.
    • The real estate got proposals worth Rs 1.24 lakh crore (4.32 per cent of the total intents); IT-enabled services got Rs 1.12 lakh crore; and tourism Rs 98,000 crore.
    • Mukesh Ambani, Chairman of Reliance Industries Limited, announced an investment of Rs 75,000 crore in UP in the coming four years.

International

3rd Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting

⇒ The 3rd Environment and Climate Sustainability Working Group (ECSWG) meeting under India’s G20 Presidency was held in Mumbai from May 21st-23rd, 2023.

    • The main focus of this meeting was on steering the discussions around Communique with a more outcome-driven approach.
    • The 3rd ECSWG meeting is a critical step in fostering the efforts of the G20 countries, invitee countries, and international organizations towards a sustainable and resilient future.
    • The three-day meeting witnessed the participation of 141 delegates from G20 countries and 10 invitee countries. The representatives of 14 international and regional organisations also attended deliberations conducted over the 3 days.
The 3 priories outlined for the ECSWG are:
    1. Arresting land degradation,
    2. Promoting Circular economy, and
    3. Giving impetus to Blue Economy
  • All meetings focused on a specific theme out of these three themes.
Day 1:

» The 3rd ECSWG focused on Blue Economy and was supported by two side events – the Mega Beach Clean Up Event and the Ocean 20 Dialogue on Day 1 of the meeting.

The G20 Mega Beach Clean Up event witnessed widespread participation from G20 countries, invitee countries, State government officials, international organisations and delegates attending the 3rd ECSWG meeting, and highlighted the global commitment to preserving coastal and marine ecosystems.

    • Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, and Labour and Employment Shri Bhupender Yadav participated in G20 Mega Beach Clean Up campaign at Juhu Beach.
    • The renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik created captivating sand art on the beach aligned with the event’s theme, featuring the G20 logo along with Prakriti, the mascot for LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).
    • The event in India saw the participation of close to 16,000 enthusiastic volunteers.

Day 1 of the meeting also witnessed extensive deliberations on the Ocean 20 dialogue – a platform for sharing best practices on science, technology, and innovation, policy, governance, participation, and blue finance mechanisms.

    • These discussions were aimed at devising a solution for ensuring a sustainable and climate-resilient Blue Economy, aligning with the priorities of the G20 India Presidency.
Day 2:
    • The second day started with an inaugural address by Shri Kapil M Patil, Union Minister of State for Panchayati Raj.
    • Amidst the rounds of deliberations at the 3rd ECSWG Meet in Mumbai, G20 India delegates visited the pavilions and appreciated the exhibits crafted by local artisans.
Day 3:

The primary agenda of the 3rd ECSWG meeting was the detailed discussions on the draft Ministerial Communique and entailed constructive discussions and deliberations on priority areas.

    • Picking up the thread from the Focus Group Discussions which had been conducted by the Indian Presidency over the past three weeks across all the three thematic priorities, the discussions were conducted with a steadfast resolve of being collaborative and inclusive.
    • The outcome documents were discussed line-by-line and the member countries presented their respective viewpoints.
    • The third day of the 3rd ECSWG meeting ended in a discussion mode on the Communique, to be further deliberated upon and refined in the virtual meetings scheduled over the next few weeks.

» The 4th and final ECSWG meeting will be held in Chennai from 26 to 27 July, with the Minister’s meet on 28 July 2023.

1st International Conference on Digital Skilling under NICE-DT

⇒ The Secretary, Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma inaugurated the First International Conference on Digital Skilling under NICE-DT (NIELIT’s International Conference on Communication, Electronics and Digital Technologies) on 11 February 2023.

Addressing the gathering after inaugurating the lead event of G20, Shri Alkesh Kumar Sharma said that Digital Skilling, Up-skilling and Re-skilling are critical to maintain and expand persons’ capabilities and employability to participate in rapidly changing economy.

NIELIT’s International Conference on Communication, Electronics and Digital Technologies 2023 (NICE-DT’23) was held on 10-11 February, 2023 at Dr Ambedkar International Centre, New Delhi.

The event was organized by the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology (NIELIT), under the administrative control of Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology, Government of India.

Inaugural session:

The inaugural session of day-one was followed by the Technical Sessions and presentation of research papers by authors, and day-two comprised of Panel Discussions on topics, Framework for Mutual Recognition of Skills; Digital Skills for All and Advanced and Emerging Skills.

    • Panel-3: Advanced and Emerging Skills
Key Points:
    • During the Conference 60 authors presented their Research Papers on topics like Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Big Data, Data Analytics, Cyber Security & Forensic, Network and Mobile Security, Advanced Computing- Cloud Computing & Quantum Computing VLSI & Semiconductors, Electronics System, IOT, EdgeAI, Assistive Technology for Divyangjan (People with disabilities), Blockchain and Software Technology, Digital Technologies for Future/ Biotechnology, Strategy for Digital Skilling for building a global Future Ready workforce.
    • During the Conference, 1st International Journal of Digital Technologies and Abstract Book was unveiled, NIELIT publishes this International Journal of Digital Technologies which is one of its kind.
    • The International Conference fostered collaboration and knowledge-sharing among stakeholders in the field of digital skilling and develop strategies for upskilling & reskilling workers globally to engineer the blueprint for creating “Global Future Ready Workforce”; thereby contributing towards the achievement of building India as the skilling capital of the World.
