Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo 2022

⇒ Union Minister of Housing & Urban Affairs and Petroleum & Natural Gas, Shri Hardeep S. Puri and Chief Minister of Kerala, Shri Pinarayi Vijayan jointly inaugurated 15th Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo 2022 in Kochi on 04 November 2022.

Union Minister Shri Hardeep S. Puri, said Kochi is the apt choice for hosting this 15th edition of the Urban Mobility India Conference and Exhibition as it has distinguished itself as an exemplar city for promoting seamless public transportation in urban areas.

    • Its focus on creating a system that encourages people to switch from personal vehicles to public modes of transport is a laudable objective. It aligns with the Centre’s objective of ‘moving people rather than vehicles.’
Organized by:

The event was organized by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs in collaboration with Government of Kerala from 4th to 6th November, 2022 at Hotel Grand Hyatt Kochi, Kerala.

Theme:

The Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo 2022 was focused on the theme of “Azadi@75 – Sustainable AatmaNirbhar Urban Mobility”.

    • It emphasized on designing and implementing efficient, high quality and sustainable transport system in the cities.
Sessions:

» Day 1 of the Conference was held on the theme – ‘Sustainable Zero Emissions’.

» In tandem with the theme of day two, i.e. ‘Inclusive Mobility- Sabka Saath Sabka Vishwas Sabka Prayas, various sessions, and symposiums covered topics that extensively discussed the nuances of inclusive mobility.  National and international level experts led the sessions.

    • A total of 12 sessions were held on day two, including research symposiums on topics like ‘Electric and Clean Urban Mobility’, ‘Sustainable Transport Planning’ and ‘Urban Transport Governance’.
    • Sessions were also held on ‘Sustainable PPP in Bus Transport’, ‘Smart Mobility Solutions and Mobility as a Service, Gender Inclusive Mobility, and ‘Realizing the Potential of Transit Oriented Development in India’.
    • The day witnessed Round Table sessions on ‘Integrating Urban and Transport Planning as a statutory process’ and ‘Collaborations between the Government and technology startups to make EV city buses successful in India’.
    • The Plenary Session was on ‘Strengthening the Ecosystem to Accelerate Shift to Public Transport’.
Participation:
    • Senior officers from Central and State Governments policy makers, Managing Directors of Metro Rail Companies, Chief Executives of transport undertakings, International experts, professionals, academicians and students participated in this event.
    • The conference provided an opportunity to interact with other professionals, technology and service providers, both domestic and international, so that the delegates can carry home ideas to develop their urban transport along a sustainable path.
    • The event brought together national and international experts, technology and service providers, policy makers, practitioners and officials from the urban transport sector under one roof.
Background:

» The National Urban Transport Policy (NUTP), 2006 of the Government of India, inter-alia, lays strong emphasis on building capabilities at the state and city level to address the problems associated with urban transport; and lays down the guidelines for developing equitable and sustainable urban transport systems for all sections of the society.

    • As part of the NUTP enunciations, the Ministry has taken the initiative to organize annual international Conference-cum-Exhibition on Urban Mobility India popularly known as UMI.

The 16th Edition of Urban Mobility India (UMI) Conference & Expo- 2023 on ‘Integrated and Resilient Urban Transport’ will be held in New Delhi on October 27 – 29, 2023.

Booklet on "Agenda for Members of Panchayati Raj Institutions for Rural Development”

⇒ Union Minister for Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Shri Giriraj Singh unveiled the booklet “Agenda for Members of Panchayati Raj Institutions for Rural Development” in November 2022.

Key Points:
    • Through this booklet, information about all the schemes such as MGNREGA, Deen Dayal Antyodaya Yojna- National Rural Livelihood Mission, PM Awas Yojna- Grameen, PM Gram Sadak Yojna, etc. will be available to the representative and the general public.
    • This Booklet will soon be brought in regional languages.

The Minister hoped that the booklet will be made available at each Gram Panchayat in the country and it can form the basis for an informed discussion on the different schemes of the Ministry of Rural Development among members of the Gram Panchayats.

Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2021-22

⇒ Ministry of Education released a detailed report on Unified District Information System for Education Plus (UDISE+) 2021-22 on school education of India in November 2022.

    • In UDISE+ 2021-22, additional data on important indicators viz., digital library, peer learning, hard spot identification, number of books available in school library, etc have been collected for the first time to align with the NEP 2020 initiatives.

10th Session of the India-Kyrgyz Republic Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation

⇒ Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal called for enhancing bilateral trade and deepening cultural relations between India and Kyrgyz Republic.

Union Minister addressed the 10th Session of the India-Kyrgyz Republic Inter-Governmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technological Cooperation (IKIGC).

Shri Goyal said that India was among the first Nations to establish diplomatic relationship with Kyrgyz Republic in March 1992 and observed that 2022 marked the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relationships between the two nations.

Co-chaired by:

The 10th session of IKIGC was co-Chaired by Shri Piyush Goyal and Mr. Imanov Talantbek Oruskulovich, Minister of Digital Development of the Kyrgyz Republic. The talks were held in a warm and friendly atmosphere.

Discussion:
    • Both sides discussed mutual cooperation and steps to further enhance them in the fields of Trade & Economy, Development Partnership, Investment, Digitalization, Intellectual Property, Agriculture, Healthcare & Pharmaceuticals, Textiles, Education, Environment, Standardization & Metrology, Banking, Transport, Labour, Mining and Power sectors.
    • Emphasis was given to increase the bilateral trade and investment opportunities.
    • The sides agreed to take necessary measures to increase the interaction of exporters and importers of the two countries and expand the trading basket.

» A Protocol of the 10th session of the IKIGC was signed between India and the Kyrgyz Republic. Both the sides agreed to hold the 11th session of the IKIGC on a mutually convenient date.
