National Conference on Akash Tattva- “Akash for Life”

⇒ Union Minister of State (I/C) Science & Technology; Minister of State (I/C) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh delivered the key-note address at the 4-day National Conference on Akash Tattva- “Akash for Life” at Uttaranchal University Campus in Dehradun.

    • The first National Conference and Exhibition on ‘Akash Tatva – Akash for Life’ was held in Dehradun on November 4-7, 2022.

Dr Jitendra Singh said, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has enabled India to earn universal recognition for India’s science, technology, innovation capabilities and our StartUps are much sought after.

The whole world is looking at India as an inspirational place, as it is helping budding countries in capacity building and satellite building including nanosatellites, he said.

The Minister said, the main aim of the conclave is to expose the youth of India to the wisdoms of ancient science along with modern scientific advancements.

The National Conference on “Akash for Life” was organized by Vijnana Bharati in association with various science Ministries/Departments and Uttarakhand State.

    • ISRO and all major scientific ministries and departments joined hands with Vijnana Bharati to organize this National conference.
    • Vijnana Bharati is a dynamic Science Movement with a Swadeshi Spirit, interlinking traditional and modern sciences on the one hand, and natural and spiritual sciences on the other hand.

    • Earth and Atmosphere: Interactions of Akash
    • Environment & Climate Change: Role of Akash
    • Impact of modern technologies on Akash
    • Space Technology for knowing Akash
    • Sustainability, Adaptation & Mitigation measures
Key Points:
    • During the Dehradun Conclave, about 35 eminent speakers shared their perspectives.
    • The three-day conference showcased blending of traditional and modern knowledge through an extended integration of all schools of though.
    • Eminent scientists, thought leaders, academics, traditional knowledge experts, practitioners, industry leaders, social and field workers, and students actively participated in the conference.
    • The event ensured an excellent opportunity to interact and initiate collaborations at the academic, industrial, and social levels.
    • The campaign ‘Sumangalam’ is being organised across the country for finding the solutions to the environmental problems like global warming and climate with an Indian perspective.
    • From the point of view of Indian traditional knowledge systems, five national conventions will be held across the country on the Panchmahabhoot – the five elements for solving environmental issues for the betterment of society. We all are aware that anchamahabhoota’s consist of Aakash, Vaayu Jal, Prithvi and Agni.

Centre for Metabolic & Endocrine Disorders at Symbiosis University Hospital & Research Centre in Pune

⇒ Union Minister for Science and Technology, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the Centre for Metabolic & Endocrine Disorders at Symbiosis University Hospital & Research Centre in Pune on 04 November 2022.

Dr Jitendra Singh, who is also a renowned Diabetologist and the Life Patron of the coveted RSSDI (Research Society for Study of Diabetes in India) described the New Centre as a timely and much needed one in view of the increasing incidences of lifestyle diseases and metabolic disorders.

    • The Centre would focus on preventive screening of the most common disease – diabetes.
    • The entire Symbiosis Aarogya Dham is located at the scenic campus of the Symbiosis International University at Gram Lavale, Pune. The medical college and its attached Symbiosis University Hospital and Research Centre has state-of-the-art infrastructure and facilities.
About Centre:
    • The Symbiosis Centre for Metabolic & Endocrine Disorders is equipped with body composition machine, skinfold thickness measurement caliper, biothesiometer for early detection of neuropathy, handheld vascular Doppler, podiascan etc.
    • Nutritionist and nurse diabetic educator will be available to counsel the patient and their relatives for ensuring right kind of diet and its significance.
    • The main focus at the centre is to prevent complications and ensure patients are guided to maintain a good lifestyle.
    • All allied specialists like Cardiology, podiatric surgeon, neurologist, ophthalmologist all are available within the centre to ensure end to end services.
    • Moreover, another major lifestyle concern is Obesity and the centre aims to provide both non interventional and surgical remedies for such patients.
    • Apart from diabetes and obesity, the centre also would manage patients with thyroid disorders, Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) and other metabolic and endocrine disorders.

Centre for Policy Research in Maritime Studies (C-PRiMeS) of IMU

⇒ Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways and Ayush, Shri Sarbananda Sonowal announced multiple initiatives at the Indian Maritime University’s (IMU) 7th convocation in Chennai, Tamil Nadu on 04 November 2022.

» A Centre for Policy Research in Maritime Studies (C-PRiMeS) of IMU was also inaugurated by the Union Minister.
    • The C-PRiMeS centre will undertake maritime studies and act as a think tank for the development of the marine economy.
About IMU:

IMU – headquartered in Chennai – was established on 14th November, 2008 as a Central University by merging seven legacy institutes to provide quality maritime education, training, and research. There are 17 Maritime Training Institutes affiliated with IMU.

Prime Minister of Israel

⇒ Benjamin Netanyahu was sworn-in as Israel’s prime minister for a sixth time on 29 December 2022, leading the Jewish state’s most right-wing government to date.

Key Points:
    • Netanyahu, 73, already Israel’s longest-serving Prime Minister, has the support of 63 lawmakers in the 120-member Knesset (Israeli parliament). In the house, 54 lawmakers voted against his government.
    • He returned as prime minister with the formation of his sixth government, which is composed of a number of far-right allies. The lawmakers supporting the new government are all right-wing, including Netanyahu’s Likud party supported by the ultra-orthodox Shas, United Torah Judaism, the far-right Otzma Yehudit, Religious Zionist Party, and Noam.
    • The Knesset elected Likud lawmaker Amir Ohana as its the new Speaker. A former justice minister and public security minister in past governments, Ohana is the Knesset’s first openly gay speaker.
    • Netanyahu is the country’s longest serving prime minister, having held office from 2009 until 2021 and a stint in the 1990s.
    • Legislative elections were held in Israel on 1 November 2022 to elect the 120 members of the 25th Knesset.
