Launch of Mobile Health Service 'Kilkari' and Mobile Academy in Maharashtra and Gujarat

⇒ Prof. S P Singh Baghel and Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar, Union Ministers of State for Health and Family Welfare virtually launched the Kilkari programme, a Mobile Health (m-health) initiative for beneficiaries in local content in Gujarat and Maharashtra on 07 February 2024.

Mobile Academy, a free audio training course designed to expand and refresh the knowledge of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and improve their communication skills via their mobile phones was also launched.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof S P Singh Baghel said, “the launch of the Kilkari Programme is in line with the Government’s commitment to prioritize the public health infrastructure and strengthen citizen-centric health services by leveraging India’s expanding mobile phone penetration.”

About Kilkari:
    • ‘Kilkari’ (meaning ‘a baby’s gurgle’), is a centralized interactive voice response (IVR) based mobile health service which delivers free, weekly, time-appropriate 72 audio messages about pregnancy, childbirth, and childcare directly to families’ mobile phones from the second trimester of pregnancy until the child is one year old.
    • Women who are registered in Reproductive Child Health (RCH) portal) based on the woman’s LMP (last menstrual period) or the child’s DoB (Date of Birth), receive a weekly call with pre-recorded audio content directly to the mobile phones of pregnant women and mothers with children under the age of one year.
    • Kilkari audio messages are present in the form of voice of a fictitious doctor character called Dr. Anita.
    • Kilkari Programme is centrally hosted by MoHFW for all the States/UTs and no further investment in the technology, telephony infrastructure or operational costs is required to be borne by States/UTs.
    • This service is FREE of cost for States/UTs and beneficiaries.
    • The programme is service is integrated with centralized Reproductive Child Health (RCH) portal of MoHFW’s and is the single source of information for this mHealth service.
    • Currently Kilkari is under implementation in 18 States / UTs namely Andhra Pradesh, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Chandigarh, Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Rajasthan, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal and Uttarakhand & Mobile Academy is operational in 17 States/UTs except Chandigarh with six languages viz. Hindi, Bhojpuri, Oriya, Assamese, Bengali & Telugu version.
About Mobile Academy:
    • Mobile Academy is a free audio training course designed to expand and refresh the knowledge of Accredited Social Health Activists (ASHAs) and improve their communication skills via their mobile phones, which is both cost-effective and efficient.
    • It is an anytime, anywhere training course that can train thousands of ASHAs simultaneously via mobile phone.

Book Titled ‘Ayurveda Kritattva Parichya Kosh’

⇒ Union Minister of Ayush and Ports, Shipping and Waterways Shri Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the new office building of National Commission of Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) at Punjabi Bagh (West) on 07 February 2024.

    • The Minister also talked about the role that NCISM is playing in advancing Ayush Education through innovation, new learning and interactive modules.

» Union Minister also inaugurated the new “Padam Shree and Padam Bhusan Vaidya Devendra Triguna Sadan” building of Akhil Bhartiya Ayurveda Mahasamelan, and released the book titled, ‘Ayurveda Kritattva Parichya Kosh’ authored by RAV Guru, Vaidya Tarachand Sharma.

23rd World Sustainable Development Summit 2024

⇒ The Vice-President, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed the World Sustainable Development Summit 2024, at TERI in New Delhi on 07 February 2024.

The 23rd edition of the annual flagship event of The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI)—the World Sustainable Development Summit (WSDS)—was held from 7-9 February 2024 in New Delhi.

Theme:

The Summit deliberations focussed on the umbrella theme ‘Leadership for Sustainable Development and Climate Justice.’

The 23rd World Sustainable Development Summit 2024 was organized by The Energy and Resources Institute – TERI.

    • The Summit was supported by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change (Nodal Ministry), and was co-branded with Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment).

Valedictory session:

The 23rd edition of the World Sustainable Development Summit brought together global leaders and stakeholders to discuss the imperatives of leadership for sustainable development and climate justice. Climate justice needs to be the north star to guide sustainable development.

    • Against the backdrop of a world grappling with a multitude of crises, including planetary emergencies, setbacks in achieving sustainable development goals (SDGs), and escalating conflicts, the valedictory session underscored the urgency of promoting environmental stewardship at all levels and across all spheres.
    • The esteemed panelists reaffirmed their commitment to driving action towards a more sustainable and equitable future.

» A promise was made to work on key issues through the ‘Knowledge Initiative’, ‘Act4Earth’, comprising the SDG Charter and the COP29 Compass.

    • The 10-point Act4Earth manifesto was launched as well.
    • Intensive discussions, collaborative engagements, and visionary leadership towards addressing the challenges of climate change were at the forefront of the summit, which has been shaping global conversations on sustainability for over two decades.
