New Controller General of Accounts

⇒ Shri Deepak Das took charge as the new Controller General of Accounts. Shri Deepak Das is the 25th officer to hold the position of Controller General of Accounts (CGA).

Shri Deepak Das, a 1986-batch Indian Civil Accounts Service (ICAS) officer, is appointed by the Government of India as the Controller General of Accounts (CGA), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance, with effect from August 1, 2021.

Digital Payment Solution 'e-RUPI'

⇒ The Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi launched digital payment solution e-RUPI, a person and purpose specific digital payment solution on 02 August 2021.

About e-RUPI:

e-RUPI is a cashless and contactless instrument for digital payment. It is a QR code or SMS string-based e-Voucher, which is delivered to the mobile of the beneficiaries. It has been developed by National Payments Corporation of India on its UPI platform, in collaboration with the Department of Financial Services, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and National Health Authority.

Kuthiran Tunnel in Kerala

⇒ Recently, Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Shri Nitin Gadkari instructed to open one side of the Kuthiran Tunnel in Kerala. This is the first road tunnel in the state and will drastically improve connectivity to Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.

The 1.6 km long tunnel is designed through Peechi- Vazahani wildlife sanctuary. The road will improve connectivity to important ports and towns in North – South Corridor without endangering wildlife.

AICTE Translation Automation Artificial Intelligence Tool

⇒ Recently, presentation on the ‘AICTE Translation Automation Artificial Intelligence Tool’ was made by AICTE Chairman, Prof. Anil D. Sahasrabudhe and AICTE Chief Coordinating Officer, Dr. Buddha Chandrasekhar at Upa-Rashtrapati Nivas.

The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu and Deputy Chairman Rajya Sabha, Shri Harivansh witnessed a demonstration by the AICTE officials on a unique tool that translates English language content into 11 different Indian languages.

The tool translates English language online courses into eleven different languages- Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Telugu, Tamil, Gujarati, Kannada, Malayalam, Punjabi, Assamese and Odia.

Institute of Forensic Sciences in Lucknow

⇒ Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah laid the foundation stone of the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences in Lucknow on 01 August 2021.

The minister said about the institute:

The Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah said, about Rs 200 crore would be spent on the Uttar Pradesh State Institute of Forensic Sciences to be built in Lucknow. Along with this, the Government of India has allocated an amount of Rs 15 crore to build a DNA Center here, so that the country’s most advanced DNA Center will be built here.

He also said that initially about 150 students will graduate from this institute every year and there will be more than 350 faculty.

This institute will provide research and development in the field of forensic science and integrate it with practical applications. There will also be a resource center for behavioural science and civil and criminal law, which will help in the field of justice in all the states of the entire northern region.

Global Scientific Collaboration for bringing “Ease of Living” for common man

⇒ Union Minister of State (I/c) Science & Technology; Minister of State (I/c) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh called for Global Scientific Collaboration for bringing “Ease of Living” for common man on 02 August 2021.

Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh chaired the Indo-Swedish meeting on Science and Technology and Innovation. A Swedish Delegation led by Ambassador KlasMolin called on the Union Minister to discuss and review bilateral cooperation in Science and Technology and Innovation.

Aim:

The objective of the program was to foster and support the development of collaborative R&D projects that bring together companies, research organizations, academics and other collaborators from both countries for the joint development of innovative products or processes in the following technology sectors:

    • Smart and sustainable cities and transport systems
    • Clean technologies, IoT and digitalization

Muslim Women Rights Day

⇒ “Muslim Women Rights Day” was observed across the country on 01 August 2021 to celebrate the enactment of the law against Triple Talaq.

The government enacted the law against Triple Talaq on August 1, 2019, which has made the social malpractice of Triple Talaq a criminal offense.

Different organisations across the country observed 1st August as “Muslim Women Rights Day”.
