8th Annual Shakti National Convention, 2023

⇒ On the occasion of Women’s Day, 2023, Ministry of MSME jointly organised SHAKTI NATIONAL CONVENTION 2023 with India SME Forum on 01 March 2023 at New Delhi.

Union Minister for MSME, Shri Narayan Rane graced the occasion as chief guest, Minister of State (MSME), Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma was the guest of Honour.

Key Points:
    • The programme featured panel discussions on State of Women in Business in India and Plugging Indian Women-Owned Businesses into Global Value Chains.
    • The esteemed panels comprised of successful & prominent women entrepreneurs, successful women exporters and experienced professionals and industry experts.
Emerging Women Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 award:

» 12 successful women entrepreneurs were felicitated with the Emerging Women Entrepreneur of the Year 2023 award by the Union Minister for MSME, Shri Narayan Rane.

    • Women Entrepreneurs Forum has instituted the Emerging Woman Entrepreneur Awards to recognize and celebrate the Achievements of Women Entrepreneurs whose journey would inspire more women to follow their own dreams.

Through this programme, the Ministry recognizes the efforts of women entrepreneurs and encourages more women to venture into entrepreneurship and help them succeed.

Constitution of Greater Panna Landscape Council (GPLC)

⇒ As part of the Ken-Betwa Link Project, which is game-changer for the socio-economic prosperity of the drought-prone Bundelkhand region, a comprehensive Integrated Landscape Management Plan has been prepared for the conservation of wildlife and biodiversity in Panna Tiger Reserve & surrounding areas.

To ensure systematic and time bound implementation of the Greater Panna Landscape Management plan, the Greater Panna Landscape Council (GPLC) has been constituted under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary, Govt of Madhya Pradesh with members from all the stakeholders.

    • Adequate financial provisions have been earmarked for the implementation of Environment Management Plan and Integrated Landscape Management Plan under the Ken-Betwa Link Project.
    • This model will be a template for future development with the motto – “विकासभी, पर्यावरणभी”.
Goal:
    • The goal of the GPL and the council is to ensure a “win-win” situation for conservation through integration with the development process based on a balanced approach and considering the diverse stakes.
    • The broad objectives are to enable betterment of habitat, protection, and management for flagship species viz. tiger, vulture, and gharial in the landscape; to consolidate the landscape for overall biodiversity conservation through spatial prioritization and well-being of the forest dependent communities; and to provide species-specific and site-specific monitoring strategies under the integrated landscape management in context with feedback loop and adaptive management options.
About KBLP:

Ken-Betwa Link Project (KBLP), the first interlinking of rivers project under National Perspective Plan (NPP) taken for implementation, would be a game-changer for the socio-economic prosperity of the Bundelkhand region, which faces recurrent drought situation.

Five Star Rating to NMDC Mines

⇒ NMDC’s iron ore mines – Kirandul Deposit – 14 MZ, Kirandul Deposit – 14 NMZ and Bacheli Deposit – 5, have been awarded 5 ratings by the Indian Bureau of Mines (IBM) in Nagpur on 01 March 2023.

    • The Union Minister of Coal, Mines and Parliamentary Affairs, Shri Pralhad Joshi, presented the award to NMDC’s Director of Production, Shri Dilip Kumar Mohanty.
Star Rating System of IBM:
    • NMDC’s mines consistently feature in the best performing mining leases of the country and receive a 5-star rating in the Star Rating System of IBM, the Ministry of Mines.
    • The mines are assessed based on their efforts and initiatives taken for the implementation of the Sustainable Development Framework (SDF).
    • Impact management through scientific and efficient mining; addressing social impacts of resettlement and rehabilitation; local community engagement and welfare programs; progressive and final mine enclosure; and adoption of international standards are all assessment parameters.

Porter Prize 2023

⇒ In a significant achievement towards recognizing efforts in health sector and especially COVID management, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW), Government of India received the Porter Prize 2023.

The Porter Prize 2023 was announced at The India Dialog organized by Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) and Stanford University.

    • The prize was presented to MoHFW in the virtual presence of Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India and Shri Rajesh Bhushan, Secretary, MoHFW.

» The prize recognizes the strategy followed by the Government of India in managing COVID-19, the approach, and involvement of various stakeholders especially involvement of ASHA workers in the industry to create PPE Kits.

    • It was also noted that “the idea of vaccine development and vaccine manufacturing and the scale that India achieved, was tremendous. India has delivered more than 2.5 billion doses today, which has just been amazing. The ministry took all the necessary steps to combat the Covid situation in the country.”
About Porter Prize:
    • Porter Prize is named after Michael E. Porter, an economist, researcher, author, advisor, speaker and teacher.
    • He has brought economic theory and strategy concepts to bear on many of the most challenging problems facing corporations, economies and societies, including market competition and company strategy, economic development, the environment and healthcare.
About ‘The India Dialog’:

» ‘The India Dialog’ was organized by Institute for Competitiveness (IFC) and US Asia Technology Management Center (USATMC) at Stanford University, on February 23 & 24, 2023.

Theme:

The theme of the conference was “The Indian Economy 2023: Innovation, Competitiveness and Social Progress”.

Discussion:

» The conference had series of keynote addresses and panel discussions on themes of Innovation, Competitiveness and Social Progress.

    • The participants gained an outlook into the future for India and the challenges to its continued progress.
    • Intellectuals and domain experts in the field of economics, business, policy-making, and social development were present to provide their up-to-date perspectives into the state of the India economy in 2023.

Important Day

18th Foundation Day of NCPCR

⇒ The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) celebrated its 18th Foundation Day on 2nd March 2023 on “Empowering Girl Child” at Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, New Delhi.

    • NCPCR invited girl children from bordering villages of 75 districts across the country for the programme.
Union Minister for Women and Child Development and Minority Affairs, Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani was the Chief Guest of the event.
    • The Union Minister of WCD and Minority Affairs launched “Child Rights Champions World” a dedicated feature on NCPCR’s website on child rights literacy.
    • Smt. Smriti Irani also emphasized the role of men in the empowerment and protection of women and girls in a civil society.
About NCPCR:
    • The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has been constituted by the Government of India, under the Commission for Protection of Child Rights (CPCR) Act, 2005 to exercise and performs the powers and functions assigned to it under CPCR Act, 2005.
    • The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) emphasizes the principle of universality and inviolability of child rights and recognizes the tone of urgency in all the child related policies of the country.
    • For the Commission, protection of all children in the 0 to 18 years age group is of equal importance. Thus, policies define priority actions for the most vulnerable children.
