National:
FICCI’s 93rd Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention:
  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi addressed at FICCI’s 93rd Annual General Meeting and Annual Convention on December 12, 2020 via video conferencing. He was also inaugurated the virtual FICCI Annual Expo 2020.
    FICCI’s Annual Convention is being held virtually on 11, 12 & 14 December 2020. This year theme of the Annual Convention is “Inspired India”.
    FICCI Annual Expo 2020 is started from 11 December 2020 and will continue for a period of one year.
16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2021:
  • The website for the 16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2021 was inaugurated by the Hon’ble Minister of State for External Affairs, Shri V Muraleedharan on December 08, 2020.
    The ‘16th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention’ 2021 will be held in virtual format on January 9, 2021. The theme of PBD 2021 is “Contributing to Aatmanirbhar Bharat”. Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi will inaugurate the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas Convention on January 9, 2021.

International:

World’s highest peak Mount Everest:
  • Nepal and China on December 8, 2020 jointly announced, the revised height of the world’s highest peak Mount Everest was 8,848.86 metres. It is 86 centimetres more than the previous measurement done by India in 1954.
List of the most notable quotes of 2020:
  • A plea from Dr Anthony Fauci for people to “wear a mask” to slow the spread of the coronavirus, has been topped in a Yale Law School librarian’s list of the most notable quotes of 2020. This list assembled by Fred Shapiro, associate director at the library. This list is an annual update to “The Yale Book of Quotations”. It was first published in 2006.

  2. “I can’t breathe” – George Floyd
  3. “One day – it’s like a miracle – it will disappear” – President Donald Trump

  • WhatsApp has introduced new feature ‘carts’. This new feature will enable shoppers with easy shopping experience.
Important Day:
  • International Human Rights Day is observed every year on 10 December. This year theme of the Human Rights Day 2020 is “Recover Better – Stand Up for Human Rights“.
    India Post, Maharashtra Circle released a special cover on ‘human rights’ on the occasion of International Human Rights Day, in Mumbai.
Death:
  • Former Minister S. R. Radha died in Chennai on December 8, 2020. He was 86. He was one of the founding members of the AIADMK party.
  • Former Argentine football player Alejandro Sabella died after battling with cancer on December 8, 2020. He was 66. He was the former head coach of Argentina team. He led the country to reach World Cup final in 2014.
