National:
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the Atmanirbhar Bharat Rojgar Yojana (ABRY).
    This is to boost employment in formal sector and incentivize creation of new employment opportunities during the Covid recovery phase under Atmanirbhar Bharat Package 3.0.
    The Cabinet has approved an expenditure of Rs 1,584 crore for the current financial year and Rs 22,810 crore for the entire plan period 2020-2023.
Department of Integrative Medicine:
  • The Ministry of AYUSH and AIIMS together have decided to set up a Department of Integrative Medicine at AIIMS.
    This may be developed with dedicated faculty and staff to make it into a permanent Department at AIIMS.
New world heritage cities: 
  • The historical fort cities of Gwalior and Orchha in Madhya Pradesh have been included in the list of UNESCO’s (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) world heritage cities under its urban landscape city programme.
9th Edition of Bangalore Literature Festival 2020:
  • The 9th Edition of Bangalore Literature Festival 2020 is being held from December 12 to December 13, 2020 at Bangalore International Centre, Domlur, Bengaluru.
    Book ‘Made in India – a memoir’ written by Milind Soman & published by Penguin India has won the popular choice award for 2020 at the Bengaluru Literature Festival. Roopa Pai is co-writer of this book.
International:
  • On November 28, 2020 National Security Advisor Ajit Doval took part in the trilateral maritime dialogue in Colombo among India, Sri Lanka and the Maldives.
    This dialogue aims to counter terrorism & radicalism through effective intelligence cooperation.
Appointment:
  • Raj Chouhan has been elected as the Speaker of the British Columbia Legislative Assembly. He is Indian-origin legislator in Canada.
IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) Global Summit- 2020:
  • The Vice President, Shri M. Venkaiah Naidu inaugurated IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) Global Summit- 2020 through video conferencing from Visakhapatnam on December 8, 2020.
    The IndUS Entrepreneurs (TiE) is a Silicon Valley-based non-profit organisation. This organisation supports start-ups through networking.
    The Summit 2020 showcased opportunities to get mega investments into India.
Death:
  • Short Story Writer, Poet, and Actor, ‘Udyavara Madhava Acharya’ of Udupi died on December 7, 2020. He was 79. He was a recipient of the Karnataka state Rajyotsava Award in 1999 and the Karnataka Sahitya Academy Award in 1970.
  • Famous test pilot of his generation, Chuck Yeager died in Los Angeles on December 7, 2020. He was 97. He was the first pilot to break the sound barrier.
