Project on ‘Capacity Building Programme for Leveraging Community and Local Resources Based on Technology’ Under Arth Ganga

⇒ The National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) launched the Project on ‘Capacity Building Programme for Leveraging Community and Local Resources Based on Technology’ Under Arth Ganga.

The Director General, National Mission for Clean Ganga, Shri G. Asok Kumar launched the project in the gracious presence of Padma Bhushan Shri Anil Joshi, Founder, Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization (HESCO) in December 2022.

The project is being jointly implemented by NMCG and HESCO.

Aim:

The programme aims to develop new need-based skills for the future amongst the local community along River Ganga and provide alternative solutions to the community members under Arth Ganga.

About Project:

» The project on ‘Capacity Building Programme for Leveraging Community and Local Resources Based on Technology’ under Arth Ganga aims to empower the Ganga Basin’s local communities by working towards their economic upliftment through ecological perceptions.

    • The project also envisages establishing Arth Ganga Centres (AGC) and three Ganga Resource Centres (GRC).
    • The program will also source the latest technologies and disseminate economically and ecologically viable interventions for the community.
    • Under the project, capacity-building workshops/trainings for communities in 4 states Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand would be organised through GRC centres under the guidance of the HESCO’s Master trainers.
Key Points:
    • NMCG also working on imparting trainings to locals for Ganga Arti and Ganga Sewaks.
    • Promoting Natural Farming amongst the farmers has been one of the targeted areas under Arth Ganga.
    • NMCG is preparing to market Ganga-related products as a brand under the umbrella of Namami Gange and Arth Ganga.
    • The training will also be imparted to people for Responsible Tourism and conservation of ecosystem.
    • The project also envisages establishing Arth Ganga Centres (AGC) and three Ganga Resource Centres (GRC).

NCHMCT unveiled a portal of library

⇒ The National Council for Hotel Management and Catering Technology (NCHMCT), unveiled a portal of library and studies material on 8th December 2022 to augment the online availability of study resources for further improving education training and other research activities.

    • NCHMCT is he apex national level body under Ministry of Tourism for imparting hospitality management course, through its more than 90 institutions across country.

Dedicating the portal to the nation during the Board meeting, Chairman of the Council and Secretary Ministry of Tourism, Shri Arvind Singh said:

    • Making these resources available in different formats such as written, audio, visuals will go a long way in easing the availability of resources in the hospitality sector.

» The Board of NCHMCT also took decision to allow culinary colleges pass outs to sit in the NHTET tests which has been rolled out on the lines of UGC NET test for those who are interested in teaching career in hospitality institutes. This endeavour has been to keep the teaching standards in hospitality institutes at high level.

International

Maiden International Fleet Review (IFR) in Bangladesh

⇒ The Indian Navy delegation led by Vice Admiral Biswajit Dasgupta, the Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command and three warships of the Indian Navy participated in the maiden International Fleet Review hosted by Bangladesh at Cox’s Bazar on 07 December 2022.

HE Sheikh Hasina, Prime Minister of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh reviewed the International Fleet comprising ships from Bangladesh Navy and eight ships from six foreign countries.

Participation of India:

With three ships, the Indian Navy contingent was the largest amongst the participating foreign navies in this IFR.

    • The three ships representing the Indian Navy, the Guided Missile Destroyer INS Kochi, Anti-Submarine Warfare Corvette INS Kavaratti and Offshore Patrol Vessel Sumedha are all indigenously designed and constructed warships.
    • The presence of these ships at this multinational event at Bangladesh contributed towards showcasing the indigenous shipbuilding capabilities of Indian Shipyards.

» The other five participating ships were from China, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and USA.

Key Points:
    • This was the first International Fleet Review to be hosted by Bangladesh.
    • The IFR complements the celebrations of 50 years of liberation of Bangladesh and the ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’ as well as the ‘Maitri Diwas’ celebrated on 06 December every year, marking the establishment of formal diplomatic relations between India and Bangladesh.
    • The presence of the Indian Navy at the maiden IFR hosted by Bangladesh was thus an apt reiteration of strong bilateral relations between India and Bangladesh and the role of the Indian Navy in strengthening defence cooperation in the maritime domain.

Sports

24 Hrs Ultra Marathon in Taiwan

⇒ 24 Hrs Ultra Marathon was organised by Chinese Taipai Association of Ultra runners for 2022 at Soochow University, Taiwan.

    • A total of 31 runners comprising 21 males and 10 females from 5 countries participated in the event.
    • The competition started at 0900 hrs on 03 December 2022 and culminated at 0900 Hrs on 04 December 2022.
Representation of India:

» Air Warrior Corporal Amar Singh Devanda represented India in the 24 Hrs Ultra Marathon.

    • Cpl Amar bagged sixth position by covering a distance of 204.47 Kms. He covered 510 Laps (400 m each) in the stadium in 24 Hrs.

Prior to this, during Asia-Ocenia 24 Hrs Championship 2022 held at Bengaluru, Cpl Amar covered 257.618 Kms on 03 July 2022 thus creating a new national record. The Indian team lead by him stood first in the championship.
