Jigyasa Vigyan Mahotsav 2022

⇒ Union Minister of State (I/C) Science & Technology; Minister of State (I/C) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh announced the winners of CSIR organised National Level Scientific Creativity Competition “CSIR Jigyasa Vigyan Mahotsav 2022” to celebrate India’s 75 years of Independence as Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.

The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research under the Ministry of Science and Technology, organised the National Level Scientific Creativity Competition “Jigyasa Vigyan Mahotsav 2022”.

CSIR Jigyasa Vigyan Mahotsav 2022 was launched on 3rd January 2022, had reached out to more than 20,000 students through Bootcamps across the country.
    • 7 Bootcamps were organised with futuristic themes in areas like Energy, Health, Artificial Intelligence, Climate Change, Water Conservation, Disaster Mitigation and Agro-technology.

Polio National Immunization Day

⇒ Dr Mansukh Mandavia, Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare launched the National Polio Immunization Drive for 2022 by administering polio drops to children below five years of age in the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare on 26 February 2022.

    • The Polio National Immunization Day 2022 (NID) was organized across the country on Sunday, 27th February 2022.

During the Polio NID, over 15 crore children were covered across all 36 States and UTs in 735 districts.

India conducts one nationwide NID and two Sub-National Immunization Day (SNIDs) for polio every year to maintain population immunity against wild poliovirus and to sustain its polio free status.

Chairperson of SEBI

⇒ The government appointed Madhabi Puri Buch as the new chairperson of market regulator SEBI. She is the first woman chairperson of the Securities and Exchange Board of India.

    • Madhabi Puri Buch’s appointment as chairperson of SEBI is for a period of three years initially.

Ms Buch, the former head of ICICI Securities, also served in SEBI between 2017 and 2021 as a Whole Time Member.

    • The Securities and Exchange Board of India was constituted as a non-statutory body on April 12, 1988 through a resolution of the Government of India.
    • The Securities and Exchange Board of India was established as a statutory body in the year 1992 and the provisions of the Securities and Exchange Board of India Act, 1992 (15 of 1992) came into force on January 30, 1992.

Book ‘Bharata Desa Pakshana’

⇒ The Vice President, Shri M Venkaiah Naidu released a book ‘Bharata Desa Pakshana’ – a Telugu translation of ‘The Case for India’ by Will Durant in Vijayawada on 02 March 2022.

Shri Naidu referred to Will Durant’s book as a useful resource to study the British rule. He also noted how Durant’s work recognized India’s ancient civilisation and its contribution to the world’s languages, culture and mathematics.

Commending the translator Smt Nadella Anuradha and the publisher Shri Ashok for their efforts, Shri Naidu stressed the need for bringing out more translations of historical works into Indian languages.

Roorkee Water Conclave 2022

⇒ Union Minister for Jal Shakti Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat inaugurated the 2nd edition of the ‘Roorkee Water Conclave’ at IIT, Roorkee.

The Conclave was jointly organised by the Indian Institute of Technology, Roorkee and National Institute of Hydrology from March 2 to March 4, 2022.

Theme of the Conclave: ‘Water Security for Sustainable Development’

Focusing on the theme, this year’s Conclave was focused upon understanding water security and its multiple facets underpinning sustainable water resource management as a key component of social development.

World’s largest cargo aircraft

⇒ Amid Moscow-Ukraine war, the world’s largest cargo aircraft, the Antonov AN-225 or ‘Mriya’ (‘dream’ in Ukrainian), was destroyed by Russian troops during an attack on an airport near Kyiv.

Indo-Oman exercise, Eastern Bridge-VI, 2022

⇒ The Indian Air Force (IAF) and Royal Air Force of Oman (RAFO) participated in a bilateral exercise named Eastern Bridge-VI at Air Force Station Jodhpur from 21 to 25 February 2022.

This was the sixth edition of the exercise. This provided an opportunity to enhance operational capability and interoperability between the two Air Forces.

The participation of IAF and RAFO in this exercise promoted professional interaction, exchange of experiences and enhancement of operational knowledge, besides strengthening bilateral relations between the two countries.

Wushu Stars Championship 2022

⇒ The Wushu Stars Championship was held in Moscow, Russia from 22 to 28 February 2022.

Sadia Tariq, a 15-year-old wushu player from Jammu and Kashmir, won a gold medal in the junior tournament at the Moscow Wushu Stars Championship 2022.

17th Foundation Day of NCPCR

⇒ The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) celebrated its 17th Foundation Day in New Delhi on 01 March 2022.

On the occasion, the Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani launched the new motto of NCPCR ‘भविष्यो रक्षति रक्षित:’.

She said “the new motto exhorts us to protect the future i.e. our children, for in their welfare lies the foundation of a strong Nation.”
