National:

Appointment of new chief of CISF:
  • Former Maharashtra DGP Subodh Kumar Jaiswal on 08 January 2021 took over as the 28th new chief of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at the CISF headquarters at Lodhi Road in central Delhi.
    Mr Jaiswal is 1985-batch Indian Police Service officer.

Jaiswal is set to retire from service in September, 2022.

CISF is primarily tasked to guard major Indian civil airports and vital infrastructure in the aerospace and nuclear domain.

  • The Kerala State Institute of Children’s Literature has announced awards in various categories for the year 2020.

Toys manufacturing cluster at Bhanapur:
  • Chief Minister of Karnataka B S Yediyurappa on 09 January 2021 laid the foundation stone to set up the country’s first toys manufacturing cluster at Bhanapur village of Koppal.

International:

President of COP26:
  • Alok Sharma will take sole charge as President of COP26 – the United Nations climate summit. He is one of the Indian-origin ministers in UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s Cabinet.
    ’26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties’ (COP26) is scheduled in Glasgow, Scotland, from 01 November to 12 November, 2021, & UK will be the host of the summit, in partnership with Italy.
White House Deputy Press Secretary:
  • Indian-American Sabrina Singh has been named as the White House Deputy Press Secretary in the upcoming Joe Biden administration.
Death:
  • Four times former Chief Minister of Gujarat & veteran Congress leader, Madhav Singh Solanki has passed away on 09 January 2021. He was 93. He was also former External Affairs Minister of India in the 1991-92.
