National:

International Akhand Conference EDUCON 2020:
  • Union Education Minister Shri Ramesh Pokhriyal ‘Nishank’ inaugurated the two-day Virtual International Akhand Conference “EDUCON 2020” via video conferencing, on 07 January 2021.

This two-day International Conference was organized by Central University of Punjab, Bathinda in collaboration with the Global Educational Research Association under the patronage of Prof (Dr) Raghavendra P Tiwari, Vice Chancellor of CUPB & Padma Shri Dr Mahendra Sodha, Patron of GERA.
The focal theme of EDUCON-2020 is ‘Envisioning Education for Transforming Youth to Restore Global Peace’ (वैश्विक शांति को साकार करने को युवाओं में बदलाव के लिए शिक्षा की संकल्पना).

Kala Utsav – 2020:
  • Kala Utsav 2020 is a national-level arts competition for school students, which was began online on 11th January, 2021 & it will end on 22nd January, 2021.

Kozhikode hosting the State-level contestants from all the States and Union Territories in the country, students are competing in 18 events.

Kala Utsav is an initiative of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan, to promote arts in education by nurturing and showcasing the artistic talent of school students at the secondary stage in the country.

International:

Memorandum of Cooperation between India & Japan:
  • The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, has approved the signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation between the Government of India and Government of Japan, on a Basic Framework for Partnership for Proper Operation of the System Pertaining to “Specified Skilled Worker”.

Under the Memorandum of Cooperation would set an institutional mechanism for partnership and cooperation between India and Japan on sending and accepting skilled Indian workers.

Important Day:
National Youth Day:
  • National Youth Day is celebrated every year on January 12 in India since 1985, to honor the birth anniversary of Swami Vivekananda.
74th foundation day of BIS:
  • The Bureau of Indian Standards celebrated its 74th foundation day on 06 January 2021.

On this occasion, Union Minister for Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Commerce & Industry and Railways Shri Piyush Goyal inaugurated the toy testing facility at BIS central laboratory. He also announced the launch of Certificate Courses on Assaying & Hallmarking and Quality Control by Bureau of Indian Standards.

Death:
  • Veteran Journalist & Noted Orator (Public Speaker), ‘Turlapaty Kutumba Rao’ passed away due to cardiac arrest on 11 January 2021. He was 87. He was known for journalism in Telugu language.

He was honored with Padma Shri award, in 2002, making him the first journalist from the state of Andhra Pradesh to receive the award.
