2nd season of ‘Asmita- Inspiring Stories by Army Wives’

⇒ The Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) organised the second season of ‘Asmita- Inspiring Stories by Army Wives’ in Manekshaw Centre, New Delhi.

    • The event was graced by the presence of the Hon’ble President of India, Smt Droupadi Murmu as the Chief Guest on 21 August 2023. Mrs Archana Pande, President AWWA was the Chief Host.
Key Points:
    • The forum was organised to share inspiring stories of wives of Army personnel who have created a niche for themselves in various fields, with their perseverance and resilience, after overcoming numerous challenges.
    • Curated by accredited speakers, ‘Asmita- Inspirational Stories by Army Wives’ energised the audience and motivated them to realise their dreams.
About AWWA:
    • AWWA is an association that works for the welfare of the spouses, children and dependents of Army personnel. It is aptly called the invisible hand that shapes the punch of the Indian Army.
    • The association was officially registered as a Welfare Society with the Registrar of Societies, Delhi Administration on 23 August 1966.
    • Since its inception, AWWA has grown in its scope and reach. Today it stands proud as one of the largest NGOs in the country.
About Asmita:
    • ‘Asmita’ is a platform provided to courageous Army wives and achievers, who have shattered many glass ceilings to narrate their accounts and inspire others like them. It is a tribute to the struggle of the brave women, who faced fearful odds but still stood tall.
    • The first season of ‘Asmita’ was organised on 14 October 2022, the speakers represented a cross-section of the AWWA fraternity including Veer Naris, spouses of the Army personnel, artists, doctors, authors, cancer conquerors and veterans. It was followed by ‘Asmita Purba’ in Kolkata on 11 February 2023.
    • Asmita has emerged as an ideal platform to identify women achievers and acknowledge their success stories and their contribution to the organisation as well as community, which in turn is a motivation for all others.

CSIR Prima ET11, the first indigenous e-Tractor

⇒ Union Minister of State (I/C) Science & Technology; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh launched the CSIR Prima ET11, the first indigenous e-Tractor on 21 August 2023.

The first indigenous e-Tractor has been developed by the Central Mechanical Engineering Research Institute (CMERI), Durgapur.

Launching the CSIR Prima ET11, Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh underlined the role of Agri StartUps in India’s economy and called for the adoption of new and AI driven technologies in Agriculture.

» On the occasion, Dr Jitendra Singh released a book by CSIR-CIMAP and a compendium on 75 technologies developed by CSIR.

G20 4th Digital Economy Working Group Ministers’ Meeting

⇒ The G20 Digital Economy Ministerial Meet was held in Bengaluru on August 19, 2023 following the 4th meeting of the G20 Digital Economy Working Group (DEWG) held from August 16 – 18, 2023.

    • The Digital Economy Working Group has been vital in empowering digital public infrastructure, fostering digital skills, and strengthening cyber security within the digital economy.

» The Ministerial Meeting began with a special video message by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi.

Highlights:
    • The Ministerial Meeting was a culmination of the four Digital Economy Working Group Meetings.
    • In these meetings, the delegates furthered their commitment on the priority areas of the working group. The delegates shed light on the significance of the working group in driving global growth.
    • Thematic sessions and deliberations focused on digital connectivity and security for a safe, resilient, and trusted digital economy.
    • Reaffirming the priorities of the working group and enhancing DPI for a resilient future, the Digital Economy Ministers’ Meeting concluded in Bengaluru.
    • After deliberations, the G20 Digital Economy Ministers adopted the ambitious & forward-looking Outcome Document and Chair’s Summary which reiterates the priorities of the Working Group and strengthens commitments.

World Under-20 Wrestling Championships 2023

⇒ The World Under-20/Junior Wrestling Championships 2023 was held in Amman, Jordan from August 14-20, 2023. This was the 46th edition of the World U-20 Wrestling Championships.

    • Iran topped the medal tally with a total of 13 medals including 7 gold, 4 silver and 2 bronze.
Performance of India:

Indian wrestlers finished their campaign at the World U20 Wrestling Championships 2023 with 14 medals – 4 gold, 3 silver and 7 bronze.

Key Points:
    • Antim Panghal became the first Indian woman wrestler to win two U20 world titles.
    • Priya Malik became only the second Indian woman to be crowned the U-20 world champion.
    • India also claimed the women’s team title at the World Under-20 Wrestling Championships 2023 with seven medals, including three gold. The men’s freestyle team finished third.

» India bagged just one gold, four silvers and 11 bronze medals last year.
