'A Silent Revolution: The Journey of the Srinivasan Services Trust' Book

⇒ Srinivasan Services Trust (SST), the social arm of Sundaram-Clayton Limited and TVS Motor Company, as part of its 25 years of its journey announced the release of the book – ‘A Silent Revolution’.

‘A Silent Revolution: The Journey of the Srinivasan Services Trust’, published by HarperCollins India, is authored by Snigdha Parupudi.

‘A Silent Revolution- The Journey of the Srinivasan Services Trust’ introduces readers to SST’s inspiring journey of being an enabler of this transformational change in underserved rural communities.

The book was unveiled by Thiru M.K.Stalin, Chief Minister, Tamil Nadu.

LiFi network at India's highest altitude educational organisation

⇒ Students’ Educational and Cultural Movement of Ladakh (SECMOL) has become the first institute of its kind in the Union Territory to have internet connection using Light Fidelity (LiFi) technology.

Set up by:

Ahmedabad based Nav Wireless Technologies Pvt Ltd has set up a LiFi network at India’s highest altitude educational organisation to help the local education fraternity.

    • Nav Wireless Technologies is the only registered company in the LiFi sector in Asia.
About LiFi:

LiFi means transmitting data with a light beam spectrum through open space in outdoor and indoor environments.

LiFi systems provide ultra-fast data connections, and are especially useful in urban areas where radio spectra are congested and also very useful in rural areas wherein Fiber Optic Cables or networks are not reachable.

80th Foundation Day of CSIR

⇒ The 80th foundation day of the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) was celebrated on 26 September.

CSIR was formed in 1942. CSIR is known worldwide for its scientific and industrial contributions in various fields. It has an effective network of 37 national laboratories across India.

Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) visited Oman

⇒ Admiral Karambir Singh, Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS) visited Oman for three-day from 27 – 29 September 2021.

The aim of the visit was to consolidate bilateral defence relations with Oman, as also to explore new avenues for defence cooperation.

The CNS held bilateral discussions with his counterpart Rear Admiral Saif bin Nasser bin Mohsen Al-Rahbi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman (RNO) in Muscat.

This official visit of the CNS to Oman highlighted the growing cooperation between the Indian Navy and the Royal Navy of Oman.

Youngest person to scale Mount Elbrus

⇒ Eight-year-old Gandham Bhuvan Jai, hailing from Andhra Pradesh’ Kurnool scaled Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, on September 18, 2021.

Gandham Bhuvan Jai has achieved the feat of becoming the youngest person to scale Mount Elbrus.

    • Mount Elbrus (5642 meters) is the highest mountain in Europe and one of the seven summits.

Director of Public Policy of Facebook India

⇒ Recently, Facebook India has appointed former IAS officer Rajiv Aggarwal as the Director of Public Policy.

In his new role, Aggarwal will define and lead important policy development initiatives for Facebook in India on an agenda that covers user safety, data protection and privacy, inclusion and internet governance.

World Tourism Day

⇒ World Tourism Day is celebrated every year on September 27 around the world.

Focus:

World Tourism Day 2021 was designated by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) as a day to focus on “Tourism for Inclusive Growth”.

Purpose:

The purpose of World Tourism Day (WTD) is to foster awareness among the international community on the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

History:

UNWTO celebrated the first World Tourism Day as an international observance on September 27, 1980.

Celebrations in India:

Ministry of Tourism organized an event to celebrate “World Tourism Day 2021” in New Delhi.

Lok Sabha Speaker, Shri Om Birla, delivered keynote Address at the programme “Tourism for Inclusive Growth” organized by the Ministry of Tourism, Government of India, to mark the World Tourism Day, 2021.

On this occasion, Shri Birla launched NIDHI 2.0 (National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry) and released “India Tourism Statistics: At a Glance, 2021.

The National Integrated Database of Hospitality Industry (NIDHI) is the ministry’s portal to register accommodation units in the country.

MoU:

The Ministry of Tourism, United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and The Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI) have signed an MoU to actively promote and support ‘sustainability initiatives’ in the tourism sector of each other.
