Awards During 58th National Maritime Day Celebration

  • The grand finale function of ‘58th National Maritime Day’ was celebrated on 5th April 2021 in online mode.
Theme:

The theme of this year’s celebration was ‘Sustainable Shipping beyond Covid-19’.

Awards:

During this program, various awards were conferred upon the meritorious persons and excellent organizations.

    • National Maritime VARUNA Award: Shri Arun Sharma, Executive Chairman, Indian Register of Shipping
    • National Maritime Award for Excellence: Mr. Raghuvir Chand Bhavnani, Advisor, The Viswa Group of Companies
    • National Maritime Award for Gallantry: Capt. Ritesh Bhamaria
    • National Maritime Award for Best Marine Training Institute: The Great Eastern Institute of Maritime Studies
    • National Maritime Award for Best Foreign Employer of Indian Seafarers: Anglo Eastern Ship Management Pvt Ltd.

Mumbai's transportation will start Water taxis and ROPAX services soon

  • Shri Mansukh Mandaviya, Minister of State (I/C) for Ports, Shipping and Waterways, chaired a meeting to review the Urban Water Transportation projects for Mumbai, Maharashtra.

Union Minister said, to promote eco-friendly waterways transportation and reduce the traffic load of crowded Mumbai city roads, 4 new routes for ROPAX ferry services and 12 new routes of Water Taxi are planned to be operational by December, 2021.

  • The Karnataka Government has assigned the charge of managing director at Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation (Namma Metro) to senior IAS officer, Rakesh Singh.

International

India-Netherlands Summit

  • Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi held a Virtual Summit with the Prime Minister of the Netherlands Mark Rutte on 09 April 2021. It was the first high level Summit attended by PM Rutte after the general elections held in March 2021.

During the Summit, two leaders had a detailed review of the entire spectrum of bilateral engagements and exchanged views on further expanding and diversifying the relationship in trade and economy, water management, agriculture sector, smart cities, science & technology, healthcare and space.

Both the Prime Ministers also agreed on instituting a ‘Strategic Partnership on Water’, to further deepen the Indo-Dutch cooperation in the water related sector.

PM Narendra Modi also welcomed the Netherlands’ Indo-Pacific Policy and its desire to collaborate during India’s G20 Presidency in 2023.

Union Minister, Prakash Javadekar met John Kerry, US Special Presidential Envoy

  • Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar met John Kerry, US Special Presidential Envoy for climate, on 06 April 2021.

They discussed a range of issues that included financing, joint research and collaboration etc to tackle climate change.

UAE's First Female Astronaut

  • The United Arab Emirates named the next two astronauts in its space program on 10 April 2021.

The ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, identified Noura al-Matroushi & Mohammed al-Mulla as two astronauts for Space Program.

Female astronaut, Noura al-Matroushi has been identified as the United Arab Emirates first female astronaut.

Death

Veteran Actor, Satish Kaul

  • Veteran Actor, Satish Kaul passed away on 10 April 2021 in Ludhiana. He was 74. He had played the role of Lord Indra in the TV show Mahabharat.

Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh

  • ‘Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh’, husband of Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on 09 April 2021 at Windsor Castle. He was 99. He retired from public duties in 2017.
