Presentation of National Technology Awards 2023

⇒ On National Technology Day 2023, National Technology Week took place from May 11th to May 14th, 2023 at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi. The 4-day National Technology Week 2023 concluded on 14th May, 2023.

    • The valedictory ceremony was graced by the august presence of Dr Jitendra Singh, Secretaries of Participating Ministries & Stakeholders of the Tech Startups ecosystem. This event was inaugurated by PM, Shri Narendra Modi on 11 May.
    • The programme and celebrations marking National Technology Day 2023 have a special focus on Atal Innovation Mission (AIM).

TDB/DST presented National Technology Awards to Industries, Entrepreneurs and Scientists at the National Technology Awards Ceremony on the concluding day of National Technology Week 2023.

National Technology Awards 2023:

For the year 2023, Technology Development Board (TDB) had invited applications from Indian companies for National Technology Awards under five categories such as Main, MSME, Start-up, Translational Research & Technology Business Incubator.

    • These awards are conferred to various industries for the successful commercialization of innovative indigenous technology.
    • This annual honour provides a platform of recognition to the Indian industries and their technology providers who work to bring innovation to the market and help in contributing to the vision of “Aatma Nirbhar Bharat”.

This year a total of 11 winners are selected after a stringent two-tier evaluation process with panellist being eminent scientists and technologists.

Winners of National Awards under five categories for the year 2022-23:
Category A:

National Technology Award (Main)

» This award is given to an industrial concern which has successfully developed & commercialized an indigenous technology. In case, the technology developer / provider and the company commercializing the technology are two different organizations, each is eligible for award of Rs 25 Lakh and a trophy.

Category B:

National Technology Award Under MSME Category

» The award of Rs 15 lakhs each in this category is given to MSMEs that have successfully commercialized the product based on indigenous technology.

Category C:

National Award Under Technology Start-Up Caregory  

» This award is given to a technology start-up for development of indigenous technology with potential for commercialization. The award in addition to the trophy includes a cash award of Rs15 Lakh.

National Technology Award – TRANSLATIONAL RESEARCH

» This award is given for outstanding contribution of Women Scientist / Entrepreneur in commercializing innovative indigenous technologies.

Prof. Govindaraju Thimmaiah

    • For Outstanding contribution of Scientist in commercializing innovative indigenous technologies.
    • Professor Govindaraju has developed a novel drug candidate TGR63 for the treatment of Alzheimer’s disease.
Category E:

National Technology Award – Technology Business Incubator

» For outstanding contribution in techno-entrepreneurship development by way of promoting innovative, technology driven knowledge, intensive startup enterprises in different technological areas’ is presented to T-Hub Foundation, Telangana.

    • T-Hub (Technology Hub) is an innovation hub and ecosystem enabler. Based out of Hyderabad, India, T-Hub leads India’s pioneering innovation ecosystem and is the world’s largest innovation campus.

PM lays foundation stone and dedicates to nation infrastructure projects in Nathdwara

⇒ The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone, inaugurated and dedicated to the nation projects worth over Rs 5500 crores in Nathdwara, Rajasthan on 10 May 2023.

The development projects focus on bolstering infrastructure and connectivity in the region where the railway and road projects will facilitate the movement of goods and services, thereby boosting trade and commerce and improving the socio-economic conditions of the people in the region.

Projects:

» The Prime Minister laid the foundation stone for road construction projects for upgradation to two-lane in Rajsamand and Udaipur.

» The Prime Minister also laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Udaipur railway station, to provide enhanced amenities for the public.

» He also laid the foundation stone for the gauge conversion project and for setting up a new line from Nathdwara to Nathdwara town in Rajsamand.

» Further, the Prime Minister dedicated three national highway projects to the nation, including 114 km long six-lane Udaipur to Shamlaji section of NH-48; 110 km long widening and strengthening to 4 lanes with paved shoulder of Bar-Bilara-Jodhpur Section of NH-25; and 47 km long two lanes with paved shoulder section of NH 58E.

3rd G20 Development Working Group

⇒ The 3rd meeting of G20 Development Working Group (DWG) convened from May 8 – 11, 2023, in the vibrant state of Goa.

    • Over 80 delegates from G20 Members, 9 invitee countries, and various international and regional organizations attended the meeting.
    • The participants included several high-profile experts and speakers from international organisations, academia, think tanks and civil society. They deliberated on matters such as Women and the Economy in Emerging Sectors, Women’s leadership in the Uniformed Services, and how women can act as agents of change in Climate Resilience and Food Systems.
Day 1:

The first day of the 3rd Development Working Group (DWG) meeting began with an engaging and insightful side event on women-led development, one of India’s key G20 priority areas.

    • The first session was on “Women and Economy: Emerging Sectors and the Future of Work”.
    • The spotlight session was on “Women’s Leadership in the Uniformed Services” focused on women in the Indian Navy.
    • The final session of the day was “Agents of Change: Climate Resilience and Food Systems”.
Day 2:

The formal segment of the 3rd G20 DWG meeting commenced on May 9, 2023.

The sessions on Data for Development and HLPs on LiFE saw exhaustive and engaging discussions and negotiations for finalizing the language of outcome documents that reflects the strong collective will of G20 to work together on the development agenda.

» An exhibition showcasing India’s women-led initiatives was inaugurated before the start of the formal meeting in the morning.

    • The exhibition was based on the theme of “ECHO” – Economy with Safe Climate and Health which was organized by the Ministry of Women and Child Development in collaboration with the Ministry of External Affairs.
    • The exhibition was curated by the National Institute of Fashion Technology and showcased products conceived, designed, and made by women entrepreneurs.
Day 3:
    • The first session on Day 3 witnessed exhaustive & engaging discussions for finalising the High-Level Principles of LiFE. Deliberations continued to reflect the strong enthusiasm of nations to come together & achieve the development agenda.
    • In the second session, G20 India called for a paradigm shift in the role of women through accelerated action on gender equality & women’s empowerment, including through a women-led development approach. Without global commitment, gender equality will remain unrealized.
    • In the third session, India’s G20 Presidency advocated for women-led development as crucial for achieving the SDGs by supporting women’s economic and social empowerment, digital inclusion & nutrition security, and adopting gender-responsive approaches in environment & climate action.
Day 4:
    • The first session on Day 4 of the 3rd DWG Meeting deliberated on inclusive solutions & collective actions to mitigate financial challenges. The discussions were instrumental in paving the way towards reinvigorated and reformed multilateralism.
    • The second session of Day 4 highlighted how collaborative efforts can push towards achieving sustainable development, holistically. Delegates emphasised the need for strengthening cooperation to address major international economic concerns.

Moscow Wushu Stars Championship 2023

⇒ Indian women athletes won 17 medals for the country at Wushu Stars Championship 2023 held in Moscow, Russia from 2 to 8 May, 2023.

    • All these girls were participants at the Khelo India Women’s leagues held in India across a year.
    • The girls bagged 10 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals in the junior girls, sub-junior girls and senior girls’ categories across Sanda (Fight) and Taolu in Moscow.
