Launch of Missile cum Ammunition (MCA) Barge, LSAM 10 (Yard 78)

⇒ The launch of ‘Missile Cum Ammunition Barge, LSAM 10 (Yard 78)’, the fourth Barge of 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge project, built by MSME Shipyard, M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd (SEPPL), Visakhapatnam for Indian Navy, was undertaken on 20 November 2023 at Guttenadeevi, East Godavari, Andhra Pradesh (launch site of M/s SEPPL).

    • The launching Ceremony was presided over by Cmde Shanmugam Sabesan, CRO (East).
Key Points:
    • The contract for building 08 x Missile Cum Ammunition Barge was signed between MoD and M/s SECON Engineering Projects Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam on 19 Feb 21.
    • The availability of these Barges would provide impetus to operational commitments of IN by facilitating Transportation, Embarkation and Disembarkation of articles/ ammunition to IN Ships both alongside jetties and at outer harbours.
    • These Barges are indigenously designed and built under relevant Naval Rules and Regulation of Indian Register of Shipping (IRS).
    • The model testing of the Barge during design stage were undertaken at Naval Science and Technological Laboratory (NSTL), Visakhapatnam.
    • These Barges are proud flag bearers of Make in India initiative of Government of India (GoI).

    • JustIS mobile app is the latest digital court management tool gifted by the e-committee supreme court of India.
JustIS App Allows Judicial Officers to-
    • Access laws, regulations, and case law;
    • Automatically generate a hearing schedule for all cases on their docket
    • Send notifications to lawyers
    • Track the status of a case on their docket
    • View & manage case document
    • Assist in judgment writing
    • Semi-automatic generation of court orders
    • View court orders and judgments in a particular case.

2nd Voice of Global South Summit 2023

⇒ India hosted the 2nd Voice of Global South Summit in virtual format on 17 November 2023.

Theme:

The 2nd Voice of Global South Summit was organised under the overarching theme – ‘Together, For Everyone’s Growth, With Everyone’s Trust’.

    • The theme echoes essentially India’s philosophy of ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’ and is an extension of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas’.
Key Points:
    • The 2nd Voice of Global South Summit focused on sharing with countries of the Global South the key outcomes achieved in various G20 meetings over the course of India’s Presidency.
    • Following on India’s endeavour to provide a voice to the Global South, the Summit saw deliberations on the challenges faced by the Global South and Global South answers to address them, in the backdrop of growing uncertainty, conflict, geopolitical tensions across the world.
    • Further, the Summit served as a platform to discuss ways to sustain the momentum generated towards our common aspiration of a more inclusive, representative and progressive world order.
    • Deliberations also focused on harnessing digital technologies to bridge the digital divide and strengthening cooperation in developing life, technical, and vocational skills.
Sessions:

» The 2nd Voice of Global South Summit saw 10 sessions on 17 November. The inaugural and the concluding session were at the Head of the State and Head of the Government level. The other 8 sessions were at the Ministerial Level.

Inaugural and Concluding sessions:

» The inaugural and concluding sessions were hosted by Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi. Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi delivered the opening statement at the concluding session of the 2nd Voice of the Global South Summit.

    • The theme of the Inaugural Leaders’ Session was “Together, for Everyone’s Growth, with Everyone’s Trust” and that of the Concluding Leaders’ Session was “Global South: Together for One Future”.
In addition, 8 Ministerial Sessions were also held on the following themes:
    1. Foreign Ministers’ Session on “India & the Global South: Emerging Together for a Better Future”
    2. Education Ministers’ Session on “Making Human Resources Future Ready”
    3. Finance Ministers’ Session on “Financing People-Centric Development”
    4. Environment Ministers’ Session on “Sustainable Solutions for Climate Resilience and Climate Finance”
    5. Foreign Ministers’ Session on “Global South and One Development”
    6. Energy Ministers’ Session on “Affordable & Inclusive Energy Transition for Sustainable Development”
    7. Health Ministers’ Session on “Solutions from the Global South for One Health”
    8. Commerce / Trade Ministers’ Session on “Global South & Resilient Supply Chains”
Inaugural Voice of Global South Summit:

India hosted the inaugural Voice of Global South Summit (VOGSS) on 12-13 January 2023, in virtual format. This unique initiative brought together 125 countries of the Global South to share their perspectives and priorities on a common platform.

⇒ Pedro Sánchez is sworn in as prime minister of Spain in front of Spanish King Felipe VI at the Zarzuela Royal Palace in Zarzuela on November 17, 2023.

» Spain’s Pedro Sánchez was re-elected as prime minister by the nation’s parliament on 16 November 2023.
    • Sánchez, Spain’s Socialist leader since 2018, was backed by 179 lawmakers in the 350-seat lower house of parliament to form a new minority leftist coalition government. Pedro Sánchez obtained the support of an absolute majority of the House with 179 votes in favour and 171 against.

WHO and the Ministry of Ayush signed the Traditional and Complementary Medicine 'Project Collaboration Agreement'

⇒ The Ministry of Ayush and World Health Organization (WHO) have signed Traditional and Complementary Medicine ‘Project Collaboration Agreement’ in Geneva in November 2023. This agreement was signed at an event organized in Geneva city, Switzerland.

Ayush Secretary, Vaidya Rajesh Kotecha, said, in his virtual message during the signing in event that the first phase of this agreement, 2023-28, will prove to be a milestone in the global development of Traditional and Complementary Medical System.

Key Points:

» The main objective of this agreement is to standardize Traditional and Complementary Medical Systems, integrate their quality and safety aspects into the National Health System, and disseminate them at the international level.

    • Through this cooperation agreement, efforts will be made to connect Traditional and Complementary Medical Systems with the mainstream of the National Health System.
    • To fulfil this objective, Traditional Medicine Global Strategy 2025-34 will be prepared by WHO with the support of the Ministry of Ayush.

» Other major objectives of the agreement include efforts to strengthen the system of training and practice in the field of Complementary Medicine System ‘Siddha’, formulation of guidelines for the listing of Traditional and Complementary Medicines, safety and related efforts, etc.

    • An International Herbal Pharmacopoeia of herbs found in South-East Asia will be developed by the Ministry in collaboration with WHO.
    • Efforts will be made under this agreement to integrate evidence-based Traditional and Complementary Medicines with the National Health System, conservation and management of biodiversity and medicinal plants, etc.
Previous Agreements:

» A total of two ‘Project Collaboration Agreements’ have already been signed by the Ministry of Ayush with WHO.

    • The first contract was signed in 2016 to take Traditional Medical systems like Yoga, Ayurveda, Unani, and Panchakarma to the global level and the second contract was signed in 2017 to strengthen the system of Ayurveda, Unani and Siddha medical systems.
