IoT Device – AmbiTag

⇒ Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar, in Punjab has developed a first-of-its-kind IoT device – AmbiTag.

The device has been developed under Technology Innovation Hub – AWaDH (Agriculture and Water Technology Development Hub) and its Startup ScratchNest. AWaDH is a Govt of India project.

Use of Device:

This IoT device records real-time ambient temperature during the transportation of perishable products, vaccines and even body organs and blood.

About Device:

The AmbiTag device is shaped as USB device. It continuously records the temperature of its immediate surroundings “from -40 to +80 degrees in any time zone for a full 90 days on a single charge. It also generates an alert when the temperature goes beyond a pre-set limit. The recorded data can be retrieved by connecting the USB with any computer.

Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam

⇒ Rear Admiral IB Uthaiah, VSM took over as the Admiral Superintendent, Naval Dockyard, Visakhapatnam from Rear Admiral Sreekumar Nair, NM during a formal ceremony held on 31 May 2021.

Rear Admiral IB Uthaiah, VSM was commissioned into the Indian Navy in Nov 1987.

‘PM CARES for Children’ Scheme

⇒ Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired an important meeting to discuss and deliberate on steps which can be taken to support children who have lost their parents due to Covid-19.

The PM said, all children who have lost both parents or surviving parent or legal guardian/adoptive parents due to Covid 19 will be supported under ‘PM-CARES for Children’ scheme.

PM CARES For Children scheme has been launched for support & empowerment of Covid affected children.

Transitional President of West African Country Mali

⇒ The Constitutional Court of the West African country of Mali has named the leader of the country’s military coup, Colonel Assimi Goïta, as its transitional president.

Col Goïta had already declared himself interim president, on 26 May 2021. He said elections would be held next year as planned.

Latest ICC ODI Player Rankings

⇒ In the latest ICC ODI player rankings released on 26 May 2021, India batsmen Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma held on to their second and third positions respectively in the batting chart while Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah remained static at number five in the bowling list.

In the batting list, Pakistan’s Babar Azam placed atop while in bowling New Zealand’s Trent Boult was atop.

In the ODI All-Rounder Rankings, Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan placed atop & Indian player Ravindra Jadeja placed at ninth.

World Junior Weightlifting Championships 2021

⇒ Indian lifter, Achinta Sheuli clinched an overall silver medal in the 73 kg category at the World Junior Weightlifting Championship on 26 May 2021 in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Gandhian Freedom fighter, Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy

⇒ Gandhian Freedom fighter, Harohalli Srinivasaiah Doreswamy died on 26 May 2021 in Bengaluru. He was 103.

Doreswamy is known for his participation in the Quit India movement and Vinoba Bhave’s Bhoodan movement. He joined the freedom struggle in June 1942, on Mahatma Gandhi’s call. He was also jailed for arson but was released in 1943.

Doreswamy ran a newspaper called Paura Vani, which voiced the aspirations of an independent India.
