Maiden Flight Test of Akash Prime Missile

⇒ A new version of the Akash Missile – ‘Akash Prime’ has been successfully flight tested from Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur, Odisha on 27 September 2021.

The missile intercepted and destroyed an unmanned aerial target mimicking enemy aircrafts, in its maiden flight test after improvements.

Comparison:
    • In comparison to the existing Akash System, Akash Prime is equipped with an indigenous active Radio Frequency (RF) seeker for improved accuracy.
    • Other improvements also ensure more reliable performance under low temperature environments at higher altitudes.
    • Modified ground system of the existing Akash weapon system has been used for the current flight test.

34th Director General of NCC

⇒ Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh took over as the 34th Director General of National Cadet Corps (NCC) on September 27, 2021.

Lt Gen Singh was commissioned into The Parachute Regiment in 1987.

Karnataka’s Best Legislator Award for 2020-21

⇒ Former Karnataka chief minister BS Yediyurappa has been named as the best legislator of the year 2020-21 by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. He became the first-ever recipient of the “Best MLA Award” of the Karnataka Legislative Assembly.

About Award:
    • The Karnataka Legislative Assembly has introduced the best legislator award for the members of the Legislative Assembly from this year.
    • The award was instituted by the Karnataka Legislative Assembly. A legislator can get the award once in a lifetime.
    • Every year, one legislator will be selected by a six-member committee headed by the Speaker, and the winner will receive a certificate and a silver medal with the insignia of Vidhana Soudha.

Chanakya Award by PRCI

⇒ Chanakya Award as the Social Media Person of the Year:

Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant presented “Chanakya Award as the Social Media Person of the Year” to Mitalee Agrawal, Public Relations Officer of the India Institute of Technology, Hyderabad (IITH).

Mitalee has received this award for her exceptional contribution to the associated organisation via effective utilisation of social media by the Public Relations Council of India (PRCI), at a two-day Grand Global Communication Conclave held in Goa on 17th September 2021.

‘Ameya of the Year’ Award:

Mitalee was also presented ‘Ameya of the Year’ Award on International Women’s Day for her dedicated service to public relations and society by the governing council of PRCI.

Social Media Man of the Year – 2021:

Subhankar Banerjee, Founder Director of Seven Sense Communication and Secretary General of PRCI Guwahati Chapter, was given the Chanakya Award for being the “Social Media Man of the Year – 2021.”

PRCI Guwahati Chapter was adjudged the Best Chapter in the country out of 50 PRCI Chapters spread across India. PRCI Guwahati Chapter also bagged the prestigious award of “Most active PRCI Chapter-21” at the 15th Global Communication Conclave.

Inaugural Meeting of the Australia India Business Champions

⇒ Mr Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, Textiles, Government of India, addressed the inaugural meeting of the Australia India Business Champions on 27 September 2021.

Union Minister Piyush Goyal co-chaired the inaugural meeting of the Australia-India Business Champions Group.

The Australia-India Business Champions Group’s provides a platform for greater engagement between the policymakers of India and Australia.

Participants:

The Inaugural Meeting of the Australia India Business Champions witnessed participants from across Industry, multilateral organisations, academia, and media, among others.

Addressing the meeting, Union Minister Piyush Goyal stated:
    • This forum will play a pivotal role in supporting the agenda of the Australia-India CEO Forum by highlighting the vibrant role being played by the business sector of both the countries.
    • Working as trusted partners, India and Australia must work towards enhancing the resilience of supply chains and greater engagement in the Indo- Pacific region.
The Hon’ble Dan Tehan MP, Minister of Trade, Tourism and Investment, Government of Australia stated:
    • The Australia-India Business Champions Group’s key aim is to liberalise and deepen bilateral trade between both the nations and pave the way for collaborative economic growth.

MoU between Royal Navy of Oman and Indian Navy

⇒ The Royal Navy of Oman (CRNO) and Indian Navy signed an MoU for exchange of White Shipping Information on 27 September 2021 at Maritime Security Center, Muscat during the visit of the Chief of the Naval Staff, Admiral Karambir Singh to Oman.

The MoU will facilitate information exchange on merchant shipping traffic, through IFC-IOR, India and MSC, Oman and contribute to enhanced maritime safety and security in the region.

Women’s Boxing National Championships 2021

⇒ The fifth edition of women’s boxing national championships 2021 was held from October 21-27, 2021, at the St Joseph’s International School in Hisar, Haryana. It was hosted by Boxing Federation of India (BFI).

There were 12 weight categories at the event in accordance with the International Boxing Association (AIBA) rules.

Women’s national boxing championships 2021 winners:

Nitu (48kg), Anamika (50kg), Nikhat Zareen (52kg), Shiksha (54kg), Sonia Lather (57kg), Meena Rani (60kg), Parveen (63kg), Anjali Tushir (66kg), Arundhati Choudhary (70kg), Saweety Boora (75kg), Pooja Rani (81kg) and Nandini (+81kg) were the gold medallists on the final day.

AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2021:

The AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championships 2021 will take place in Istanbul, Turkey from December 4 to December 19, 2021.
