Pharma Anveshan-2023

⇒ Minister of State for Health and Family Welfare, Dr. Bharati Pravin Pawar inaugurated Pharma Anveshan-2023 on the occasion of National Pharmacy Education Day in New Delhi.

Organized by:

» The Pharmacy Council of India under its patronage celebrated Prof M L Shroff’s 121st birth anniversary as Pharma Anveshan-2023 on 6th March 2023.

    • Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) organized “Pharma Anveshan 2023” to promote research & innovation, enhancing industry academia.

» Pharma Anveshan-2023 saw delegates all across the country including pharmacy teachers, researchers and leading pharma industry officials.

Key Points:
    • The event was organized with a vision of providing a platform for sharing the academic research with industry to exchange the benefits of research outcomes between academia and industry. This helped in exploring commercial purpose based on the academia – industry interlinking.
    • Dr Bharati Pravin Pawar also launched a ‘One Stop-Non Stop’ digital job portal of Pharmacy Council of India, which will be useful for pharma professionals as well as recruiters from the industry. This will prove to be a game changer for the students coming from small towns and villages.
    • At the event, PCI also signed Memorandum of Understanding with Karnataka Drugs and Pharmaceuticals Manufacturer’s Association (KDPMA), Life Sciences Sector Skill Development Council, Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship (LSSSDC), Indian Pharma Alliance (IPA) and Federation of Pharma Entrepreneurs (FOPE) to reduce the gap of industry and academia, strengthen faculty and student training and promote entrepreneurship and infrastructure development.

The Event helped pharmacy professionals all across the nation to gain recent insights for the upcoming research in the post-covid era. Global trust earned by the Indian healthcare sector has led to India being called the “Pharmacy of the World”.

ACMA’s Atmanirbhar Excellence Awards and Technology Summit 2023

⇒ ACMA’s Atmanirbhar Excellence Awards and Technology Summit 2023 was organised in physical mode on March 6, 2023 at Hotel Le Meridien, New Delhi. The day was dedicated to celebration of outstanding performance in the Indian Auto Components Industry.

Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution and Textiles, Shri Piyush Goyal addressed the ACMA’s Atmanirbhar Excellence Awards and Technology Summit 2023.

    • Union Minister Shri Piyush Goyal urged the auto components industry to reflect on the level of investments and time and effort that they have been putting in to develop new technology, new designs, new products and thus help India’s indigenization and localization efforts.
Theme:

The theme of the Summit was ‘Gearing up for Carbon Neutrality & Sustainability’.

» The Summit brought together leading experts from international organizations, governments, automotive OEMs & Supply Chains, research & academia, civil society, and the youth, to deliberate on the way forward, to meet India’s carbon neutrality goal and sustainable manufacturing, to ensure a safer Earth for our future generations.

Indo-France Joint Military Exercise FRINJEX-2023

⇒ The maiden Joint Military Exercise FRINJEX-23 between Indian Army and French Army was conducted at Pangode Military Station, Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala on 07th and 08th March 2023.

Participation:

It was for the first-time armies of both the nations engaged in this format with each contingent comprising of a Company Group each from the Thiruvananthapuram based Indian Army troops and French 6th Light Armoured Brigade.

Aim:

The aim of the exercise was to enhancing inter-operability, coordination and cooperation between both forces at tactical level.

» The scope of the exercise involved establishment and operationalisation of a joint command post to secure an envisaged area for undertaking joint humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, establishing an Internally Displaced Population (IDP) camp and move of disaster relief material.

» The joint exercise further strengthened defence cooperation with France, which is a key aspect of the overall Indo-French strategic partnership.

Labour 20 (L20) Inception Meeting

⇒ The 1st Labour 20 (L20) meeting was held from 19th to 20th March 2023 in Amritsar, Punjab.

» Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS), India’s largest Trade Union have been appointed chair to host the L20.

    • Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) is the lead national trade union centre for organising the L20 inception meeting under India G20 presidency.

» This Inception Event of L20 was attended by trade union delegates, experts and labour leaders from 20 countries, as well as by trade union leaders and labour experts from India.

BMS National President, Shri Hiranmay Pandya, as the chair of the L-20, presided over the meeting. Briefing the media about the agenda of the meeting, he had said that the Inception meeting plans to discuss key subjects related to sustainable livelihood and employment, including:

    • Universalization of Social Security;
    • International Migration of Labour;
    • Portability of Social Security Funds;
    • Social Protection for Informal Workers; and
    • Skill Training and Skill Upgradation: Role and Responsibilities of Employers, Employees and Governments.
The meeting also had five parallel technical sessions on:
    • International Migration of Labour and Portability of Social Security Funds;
    • Social Protection for Informal Workers;
    • Skill Training and Skill Upgradation and Role and Responsibilities of Employers, Employees and Governments;
    • Changing World of Work and New Employment Opportunities in G20 Countries;
    • Promoting Sustainable Decent Work.
Priority Issues: L20 adopts two Joint Statements on the Universalisation of Social Security and Women & the Future of Work

The L20 group adopted two Joint Statements as the outcome of the two-day deliberations. One calling for resolving the question of portability of social security among G20 nations as a first step towards universalisation of social security, and the other for plugging the gender gap in the global workforce.

Joint Statement on Universalisation of Social Security:

The Joint Statement stated that the question of portability of benefits within the G20 nations is a low-hanging fruit, which could be addressed by the grouping at no time and pointed out to the BRICS deliberations for an intra-group arrangement in this regard.

Joint Statement on Women and the Future of Work:

The Joint Statement called for upskilling of the women workforce globally to meet the emerging challenges of tech-intensive industry and the post-pandemic job market and asked the governments and employers to shoulder this responsibility. It also called for recalibrating how women in the informal sector, and family-raising roles, contribute to the global economy and asked for valuing that contribution.

» Before the 2-day meeting ended, representatives from Russia, India, Australia, Nepal and Bangladesh shared their national experiences on wages and their various dimensions, particularly the impact on livelihoods

About L20:
    • L20 is one of the engagement groups under G20. Labour 20 (L20) Summit first took place formally during the French Presidency in 2011.
    • It comprises leaders and representatives of trade union centers of G20 countries who provide analyses and policy recommendations aimed at addressing labor-related issues.
    • The forum tries to bring together trade unionists from the G-20 countries representing 66% of the population and around 75% of the global GDP to discuss issues concerning the working people and population in general that transcend borders.

National Pharmacy Education Day

⇒ National Pharmacy Education Day is celebrated every year on 06 March to commemorate the birth anniversary of Prof M L Shroff, the father of Pharmacy Education of India.

Pharmacy Council of India has decided to recognize the contribution of Prof. Mahadeva Lal Schroff for establishing the Pharmacy Education in India by declaring his ‘Birth Anniversary’ 6 March as “National Pharmacy Education Day”.

About Prof M L Schroff:
    • Prof M L Schroff is recognized as the Father of Pharmacy Education in India. He certainly remains an ideal to all pharmacists working in this country irrespective of their branches and diversity of duties.
    • He played a great role in building pharmacy education in India, he also contributed to the development of other aspects of the pharmacy profession. Prof Schroff started the M.Pharm Education in 1940 at BHU with his efforts. Slowly, pharmacy education sprung up in different places in India.
About PCI:
    • The Pharmacy Council of India (PCI) is a statutory body working under the Ministry of Health and F.W., Government of India. It is constituted under the Pharmacy Act, 1948 to regulate pharmacy education & practice of profession in the country.
    • The PCI was constituted on 9.8.49 under section 3 of the Pharmacy Act.
