First Banni Buffalo IVF calf in India

⇒ For the first time in India, a buffalo was inseminated by the IVF technique of artificial insemination and the calf was born. This buffalo is of ‘Banni’ breed. This is the first Banni Buffalo IVF calf in the country.

With the birth of first IVF calf of a Buffalo, India’s OPU – IVF (Ovum Pick-Up – In Vitro Fertilization) work has reached to next level.

This first IVF Banni calf is born out of 6 Banni IVF pregnancies established at the doorsteps of a farmer, Vinay L Wala of Sushila Agro farms, located at Dhanej in Somnath district of Gujarat.

PETA's Progressive Business Concept Award

⇒ People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) India has decided to confer on Meghalaya Environment Minister James P K Sangma the Progressive Business Concept Award for his plans to produce ‘vegan leather’ in the northeastern state.

Sangma had announced that the Meghalaya government plans to produce leather using pineapples found abundantly in the hilly state.

“In recognition of his plans to help local farmers by encouraging vegan pineapple-leather production a move that will also protect animals and the environment, PETA India has decided to confer upon him the Progressive Business Concept Award.”

Seven New Defence Companies

⇒ Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered a video address at an event organised by the Defence Ministry to dedicate seven new defence companies to the nation.

Seven new defence companies:

The seven new defence companies are Munitions India Limited (MIL), Armoured Vehicles Nigam Limited (AVANI), Advanced Weapons and Equipment India Limited (AWE India), Troop Comforts Limited (TCL), Yantra India Limited (YIL), India Optel Limited (IOL) and Gliders India Limited (GIL).

4th Innovative International Film Festival

⇒ The fourth edition of the Innovative International Film Festival was held in Bangalore. The three-day-long event started on October 15 and concluded on October 17.

    • The fourth edition of Innovative International Film Festival was organized by Innovative Film Academy (IFA) which was formed by the Innovative group in 2015.
    • More than 100 films from 20 countries in over 30 languages were screened at 9 screens during the event.
Best Indian Film award:

Tamil film ‘Karnan’ directed by Mari Selvaraj and starring Dhanush has won the Best Indian Film award at the Innovative International Film Festival.

Best South Indian Film:

Actor-director EV Ganesh Babu’s ‘Kattil’ won the award for Best South Indian Film at Innovative International Film Festival.

Unique Research Centre and Fellowship Programme at Museum Rietberg

⇒ Museum Rietberg, based in Zurich, Switzerland, has established a unique research centre and fellowship programme with a focus on Indian art.

About Unique Research Centre:

The GBF Centre is meant for scholars, curators, and artists who specialise in Indian painting. The GBF Centre has named Sonika Soni as its first research fellow.

The programme aims to enhance international scientific, artistic, and curatorial exchange on Indian art and advance the museum’s own collections through dialogues from different perspectives.

About:

Museum Rietberg is the only art museum for non-European art in Switzerland, and houses collections from Asia, Africa, the Americas, and Oceania.

Founded in 1952, its Indian paintings collection is ranked alongside those in London, Paris, and Berlin.

26th Busan International Film Festival

⇒ Filmmaker Aparna Sen’s ‘The Rapist’ has won the Kim Jiseok Award at the 26th Busan International Film Festival 2021.

The 26th Busan International Film Festival was held from 6 October to 15 October 2021.

First captain to lead 300 matches in T20 format

⇒ Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni became the first captain to lead 300 matches in the T20 format.

Dhoni achieved this feat while leading Chennai Super Kings in the final of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Dubai International Stadium in the UAE.
