A Program on the Occasion of World Milk Day, on 01 June 2021
⇒ On the occasion of World Milk Day, Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry & Dairying, Shri Giriraj Singh chaired a virtual program.
Announcement of National Awards for the Cattle & Dairy Sector:
During the program, Union Minister announced the launch of the National Awards for the Cattle and Dairy sector, the Gopal Ratna Awards. The award has three categories Best Dairy farmer, Best Artificial Insemination Technician (AIT) and Best Dairy Cooperative/ Milk producer Company/ FPO. Union Minister mentioned that winners for the award will be announced on 31st October 2021.
Integration of e Gopala App:
The Minister also announced integration of e Gopala App with UMANG platform so that 3.1 Crore users of Umang platform will get access to App. e-GOPALA app (Generation of wealth through Productive Livestock) is a comprehensive breed improvement marketplace and information portal for direct use of farmers.
Growth in Dairy Sector:
The Minister also mentioned that Milk Production has grown at an average annual growth rate of 6.3 percent per year during last 6 years whereas world milk production is growing at the rate of 1.5 percent per year. Percapita availability of milk has increased from 307 grams per person per day in 2013-14 to 406 grams per person per day in 2019-2020 that is y 32.24 percent.
General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of Eastern Command
⇒ Lieutenant General Manoj Pande, AtiVishishtSeva Medal, VishishtSeva Medal, took over the reins of Eastern Command on 01 June 2021 as General Officer Commanding-in-Chief. The General was commissioned in the Bombay Sappers in December 1982.
Chief of Materiel, Indian Navy
⇒ Vice Admiral Sandeep Naithani, AVSM, VSM, has assumed charge as the Chief of Materiel, of the Indian Navy on 01 June 2021. He was commissioned into the Electrical Branch of the Indian Navy on 01 January 1985.
Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Conserver Award-2021
⇒ Three environmentalists, ornithologist K Mrutyumjaya Rao, wetland expert Thupalli Ravi Shankar, and teacher Kesari Srinivasa Rao have received the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Conserver Award-2021 on the occasion of the International Day of Biodiversity i.e. on 22 May 2021 in Amaravati.
Three environmentalists from East Godavari district have received the award for their contribution to the conservation of the Godavari wetland ecosystem and creating awareness on bird species in the State over the past few decades.
The award has been presented by Andhra Pradesh State Biodiversity Board Chairman BMK Reddy and Member Secretary and Principal Chief Conservator of Forest D Nalini Mohan.
International
Memorandum of Cooperation Between India & Japan
⇒ The Union Cabinet, chaired by the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi has approved the signing of Memorandum of Cooperation on Sustainable Urban Development between the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs, India and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, Japan. The Union Cabinet has approved the signing of MoC in supersession of existing MoU of 2007 on Urban Development.
Duration:
The cooperation under this MoC will commence from the day it is signed and the duration of the cooperation is five years. Thereafter, it may be renewed automatically for further successive periods of 5 years at a time.
Objective:
The objectives of the MoC are to facilitate and strengthen India-Japan technical cooperation in the field of Sustainable urban development including Urban Planning, Smart Cities Development, Urban Flood Management, Sewerage and Waste Water Management, Intelligent Transport Management System and other areas.
Benefits:
The MoC is expected to create employment opportunities in these areas.

World Milk Day 2021
⇒ Since 2001, World Milk Day is celebrated every year on 1st June, to create awarness about the benefits of milk and dairy products.
World Milk Day was established by the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations to recognize the importance of milk as a global food.
Theme:
The theme of World Milk Day 2021 was focused on Sustainability in the dairy sector.
To help create a positive stream of conversation, the 2021 celebrations began with the Enjoy Dairy Rally May 29 – 31, culminating with World Milk Day on June 1.
Death
Bengali Writer and Translator, Enakshi Chatterjee
⇒ Renowned Bengali writer and translator Enakshi Chatterjee passed away on 25 May 2021 in Delhi. She was 86.
Enakshi was a prolific author in both Bengali and English. She received the Rabindro Puroshkar for the book ”Poromanu Jigyasha” co-written with her husband, Dr Santimay Chatterjee. She was also conferred with the Kalidas Nag Memorial Award for her lifetime achievement in literature.
