National Awards for e-Governance 2021-22

⇒ The 25th National Conference on e-Governance (NCeG) was held on 26th – 27th November, 2022 in Katra, Jammu & Kashmir.

Union Minister of State (I/C) Science & Technology; Minister of State (I/C) Earth Sciences; MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh inaugurated the 25th National Conference on e-Governance, the silver jubilee edition of the NCeG in Katra, Jammu & Kashmir.

    • Dr Jitendra Singh said, the ultimate objective of good governance is to bring ease of living in the life of common man.
Organized by:

The Department of Administrative Reforms & Public Grievances (DARPG) and Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), Government of India, in association with the State Government of Jammu & Kashmir organized the 25th National Conference on e-Governance.

Theme:

The theme of this Conference was “Bringing Citizens, Industry and Government closer”.

Discussions were held on ten sub-themes in Plenary sessions during the Conference:

    1. Digital Governance Across Whole-of-the-Government;
    2. Digital Economy Strengthening Start-up Ecosystem & Employment Generation;
    3. Modern laws to promote national growth and to secure citizen’s rights;
    4. Transparent and Real-time Grievance Management System;
    5. 21st Century Digital Infrastructure for next-generation services and security in cyberspace;
    6. Shifting the gear on emerging technologies from exploration to population scale solutions;
    7. The role of e-Governance in bridging the digital divide;
    8. Digital Governance for Enhancing Ease of Doing Business and Ease of Living;
    9. J&K State: Digital Transformation in Jammu & Kashmir; and
    10. e-Governance Initiatives in J&K
Key Points:
    • The Conference provided considerable momentum to the e-Governance initiatives across the country, providing opportunities for civil servants and industry captains to showcase their successful interventions in e-Governance in improving end-to-end service delivery.
    • Delegates from Central Ministries/Departments and 28 States and 8 Union Territories confirmed their participation in the Conference.
    • Over 1000 delegates attended in this Conference in Jammu.
    • An Exhibition also organized during the event to showcase India’s achievements in the field of e-Governance, along with a Wall of Fame/ photo exhibition on the award winners.
National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) 2021-22:

» Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh presented the National Awards for e-Governance (NAeG) during the 25th National Conference on e-Governance.

    • The National Awards for e-Governance was presented under 5 categories of the NAeG Scheme – 2022 to 18 e-Governance initiatives at Central, State and District levels, Academic & Research Institutions and Public Sector Undertaking. This includes 9 Gold and 9 Silver Awards.

The 5 award categories are:

      1. Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering for Digital
      2. Excellence in providing Citizen Centric Delivery
      3. Excellence in District level initiative in e-Governance
      4. Outstanding research on Citizen Centric Services by
      5. Excellence in adopting emerging technologies
National Awards for e-Governance 2021-22 Winners:

» e-Panchayat Mission Mode Project (eGramSwaraj and AuditOnline) of Ministry of Panchayati Raj has won the GOLD AWARD under the category “Excellence in Government Process Re-engineering for Digital Transformation” of the National Awards for e-Governance.

    • The award is a recognition of the excellent and exemplary work done by Team eGovernance and supported by Team NIC-MoPR.

About National Awards for e-Governance:
    • National Awards for e-Governance are presented every year for exemplary implementation of e-Governance initiatives to recognize and promote excellence in implementation of e-Governance initiatives.
    • These Awards are being given since 2003.

Digital India startup hub at STPI centre at Davanagere

⇒ The Minister of State for Electronics & Information Technology and Skill Development & Entrepreneurship, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar inaugurated a Digital India startup hub at the Software Technology Parks of India (STPI) centre at Davanagere, Karnataka on 25 November 2022.

    • This is the 63rd STPI centre in the country and the fifth in the Karnataka.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajeev Chandrasekhar said the Government’s emphasis has been on the growth of IT/ITES/ESDM Industry in the newer cities, and that it should not be confined to the metropolitan centres.

Key Points:
    • The State Government has provided 10,000 sq ft built-up space in Karnataka State Open University (KSOU) Regional Centre, Davanagere for the establishment of this STPI Centre.

Among other facilities:

    • The Centre has plug-n-play 102-seater Incubation facility, Network Operations Centre, 16-seater conference room, and 32-seater cafeteria and provision for providing high-speed data communication facilities and other amenities & services required for export of software & services.

‘CEO round table on Sustainable Tourism’ in partnership with UNEP and RTSOI

⇒ In alignment with the National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and with an objective to enhance engagement and participation of industry stakeholders in transition of Tourism sector towards sustainability pathway, the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) and Responsible Tourism Society of India (RTSOI) organised a ‘CEO round table on Sustainable Tourism’ on 25 November 2022.

Aim:

The aim of the round table was to enhance awareness of industry stakeholders on national and global priorities for sustainable tourism and share and promote best practices on sustainable tourism.

The round table followed and drew linkages with the following three important initiatives on sustainable Tourism; which was signed by participants, with an objective to accelerate sustainable consumption and production in tourism policies and practices for addressing the triple planetary crisis and accelerate low carbon, climate resilient and green economic transformation of tourism sector:

    1. Travel for LiFE Pledge
    2. Responsible Traveller Campaign
    3. Global Tourism Plastics Initiative
Participation:

The round table saw participation from CEOs, senior-mid level representatives from the key industry groups, Ministry of Tourism, UN in India, UNEP, Responsible Tourism Society of India, and technical agencies/experts working on Sustainable Tourism.

Background:
    • Tourism sector’s contribution to a growing economy and livelihoods for millions of people, is well recognised. It is an important driver for growth in economic activities and local livelihoods and an essential medium for showcasing natural and cultural heritage.
    • Travel & Tourism sector is known to leave significant environmental and carbon footprints. Additionally, the growing plastics production and use, needs special attention of the tourism sector to ensure reduction of plastic and enhance circularity in its use.
    • On 4th June 2022, the Ministry of Tourism, in partnership with United Nations Environment Program and Responsible Tourism Society of India organized the National Summit on Developing Sustainable & Responsible Tourist Destinations and launched the National Strategy for Sustainable Tourism and Responsible Traveller Campaign.
    • The National Strategy for sustainable tourism aims to mainstream sustainability in Indian tourism sector and ensure a more resilient, inclusive, carbon neutral and resource efficient tourism while safeguarding natural and cultural resources.

Communal Harmony Week and Flag Day 2022

» CSIR-National Institute of Science Communication & Policy Research (CSIR-NIScPR) celebrated the Communal Harmony Campaign Week which was started from 19 November 2022. It culminated with Flag Day on 25 November 2022.

CSIR-NIScPR organized various activities to celebrate the event.
    • Posters were displayed for awareness in both the campuses of CSIR-NIScPR, New Delhi.
    • A special talk was delivered by Shri R.K.S Roushan, Controller of Administration, CSIR-NIScPR on 24th November 2022. The title of his talk was “Conflicts and Resolutions – Indian Experiences”.
About Communal Harmony Campaign Week:

» The ‘Communal Harmony Campaign Week’ is observed every year from 19th to 25th November. The last working day of the week is observed as ‘Flag Day’ of the Foundation.

Background:
    • The National Foundation for Communal Harmony (NFCH), an autonomous organization under the Ministry of Home Affairs, was established in 1992.
    • The Foundation provides financial assistance to those children who become destitute and orphan in communal, caste, ethnic or terrorist, violence, up to the age of 25 years. The assistance is meant for their care, education and training for effective rehabilitation.
    • The Foundation was sent up with a modest corpus which is not enough to continue and expand its activities to achieve the goal. It has been striving to become self-sustaining and has been raising funds from various partners/ donors on voluntary basis.
    • The ‘Communal Harmony Campaign Week’ is utilized also to raise the funds to support activities of the Foundation.
