Puducherry presented their Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Annual Action Plan

⇒ The Union Territory Puducherry presented their Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM) Annual Action Plan on 29 April 2021 with details of the plan for the financial year 2021-22. The state also presented the saturation plan for the whole State to provide tap water connection to every rural household. The Union Territory Puducherry plans to achieve 100% saturation by September 2021.

Achievement:

The total number of rural households in Puducherry is 1.16 lakh, and it has tap water connections in about 1.09 lakh (95%) rural households.

Plan for 2021-22:

Puducherry plans for 100% saturation by the second quarter of 2021-22.

Andhra Pradesh presented their Jal Jeevan Mission Annual Action Plan

⇒ The State of Andhra Pradesh presented their Jal Jeevan Mission Annual Action Plan with details of the saturation plan for the financial year 2021-22, thereby ensuring every rural household gets tap water connection.

Achievement:

The State has 95.66 lakh rural households, out of which 44.91 lakh (47.13%) have tap water supply.

Plan for 2021-22:

In 2021-22, the State plans to provide 32.47 lakh tap water connections in the rural areas. In the year 2021-22, Centre has allocated Rs 2,000 Crore for developing the water supply infrastructure.

Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Cinema

⇒ The Ministry of Information & Broadcasting is organising year-long centenary celebrations across India and abroad to pay tributes to the legendary filmmaker late Shri Satyajit Ray.

Shri Satyaji Ray was a renowned filmmaker, writer, illustrator, graphic designer, music composer. He was born on 2nd May, 1921 & died on 23rd April, 1992.

Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Cinema:

This year, “Satyajit Ray Lifetime Achievement Award for Excellence in Cinema” has been instituted, keeping in mind the legacy of this great personality.

This lifetime achievement award will be given every year at the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) and it will start from this year.

The Award consists of a cash prize of 10 lakh rupees, a certificate, Shawl, along with a Silver Peacock medal and a Scroll.

RBI fixed the tenure of the MD, CEO and WTO

⇒ The RBI fixed the tenure of the managing director, chief executive officer and whole-time director in a private sector bank at 15 years and prescribed the maximum age at 70 years for such functionaries, on 26 April 2021.

India & Russia to Establish a '2+2 Ministerial Dialogue'

⇒ Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke on telephone with President of the Russian Federation Vladimir Putin on 28 April 2021.

The leaders of two countries agreed to establish 2+2 ministerial dialogue, which would include foreign and defense ministers.

Russia now has become part of a small group of countries with whom India has 2+2 dialogue of foreign and defence ministers. India has such mechanism with the US, Japan and Australia.

Chandler Good Government Index 2021

⇒ The Chandler Good Government Index (CGGI) 2021 report has been produced by the Chandler Institute of Governance (CIG). This is the first edition of annual series of Chandler Good Government Index (CGGI). It has been produced for 104 countries globally, to measure the effectiveness of governments.

Death

Former Attorney General of India, Soli Sorabjee

⇒ Former Attorney General of India and renowned jurist Soli Sorabjee died in New Delhi on 30 April 2021. He was 91.

Sorabjee served as the attorney general of India twice from 1989 to 1990, and again from 1998 to 2004. He was the first president of the Jazz India Association.

He was conferred with the Padma Vibhushan for his defence of the freedom of expression and the protection of human rights in 2002.

Television Journalist, Rohit Sardana

⇒ Popular Television journalist Rohit Sardana died in New Delhi on 30 April 2021. He was 41.

Sardana had joined Aaj Tak in 2017 after he left Zee News. He was a senior anchor at Aaj Tak. He had hosted TV programme ‘Dangal’ on Aaj Tak, and ‘Taal Thok ke’ on Zee News.
