Global Professional Accountants Convention (GloPAC) by ICAI

⇒ The Vice President of India, Shri Jagdeep Dhankhar addressed the inaugural session of ‘Global Professional Accountants Convention’ in Gandhinagar, Gujarat on 24 November 2023.

The Vice-President highlighted that the convention’s theme, “Connecting the Globe, Creating Value,” resonates with our economy’s current dynamics.

» ICAI organised its first ever “Global Professional Accountants Convention” (GloPAC) on November 24-26, 2023 at Mahatma Mandir Convention Centre, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India.

The “Global professional Accountants Convention” was organised by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI).

Theme:

The theme of the Global Professional Accountants Convention was “Connecting the Globe, Creating Value”.

Key Points:
    • GloPAC was more than just a conventional gathering of accounting and finance professionals.
    • It was celebrated as a mega event to showcase the accountancy profession which has been playing a pivotal role in building stronger and more stable economies around the globe.
    • GloPAC was an apt platform to create a powerful ecosystem for accounting professionals, facilitate commerce and share valued insights on the issues and challenges concerning the profession.

8th India Water Impact Summit (IWIS) 2023 and 1st Climate Investments and Technology Impact Summit (CITIS 2023)

⇒ Shri Nitin Gadkari, the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, inaugurated the 8th Edition of the India Water Impact Summit (IWIS) on November 22, 2023, at the Dr Ambedkar International Centre in New Delhi.

» The 8th India Water Impact Summit 2023 was held for three days from November 22 to 24, 2023.
    • The 8th India Water Impact Summit emphasised on sustainable development issues related to land and water.

The 8th India Water Impact Summit was organized by the National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG) and the Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga), IIT Kanpur.

Theme:

The theme of IWIS 2023 was ‘Development vis-à-vis Land, Water and Rivers,’ aimed at uniting scientific experts, stakeholders, and government representatives to address dynamic challenges and opportunities in India’s water sector.

Day 1:
    • Day 1 of IWIS 2023 also held sessions on ‘Samarth Ganga and Productive Land- I’ and “Lifestyle for & Economics of Rivers-I.
    • An exhibition of past achievements of IWIS was presented at the 8th India Water Impact Summit (IWIS).
    • Concurrently, Day 1 of CITIS, technology pitches were presented to the evaluation panel, complemented by the inauguration and walkthrough of the exhibition.
    • Notably, the Jalaj Stall emerged as a central attraction, capturing the attention and enthusiasm of attendees keen to explore innovative water solutions.
    • The exhibition, situated on the sidelines of IWIS and CITIS, featured disruptive, high-impact innovative solutions spanning various sectors, including water, energy, waste, food, agriculture, and transport.
Day 2:

» The second day saw a significant agreement between India and Slovenia on space science technology and satellite usage for river basin management.

    • The agreement focuses on cooperation in space science technology and satellite usage for river basin management.

» The second day’s thematic sessions covered agricultural waste management, lifestyle and economics, and the use of digital tools for effective river monitoring.

Day 3:
    • The last day of the summit jointly organized with the Climate Investment and Impact Summit, witnessed the presentation of numerous new initiatives by the industry including the concept of the “Internet of Underwater Things” a revolutionary approach to underwater networks, drawing significant attention.
    • The discussion during the Climate Investment and Impact Summit focused on the financial and social aspects of new technologies, stressing the need for a comprehensive perspective toward solutions.

» The 8th IWIS summit concluded by showcasing their commitment to sustainable water management.

1st Climate Investments and Technology Impact Summit (CITIS 2023):

» During the 8th IWIS, National Mission for Clean Ganga and the Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga) also organized the 1st Climate Investments and Technology Impact Summit (CITIS 2023) on 22-24 November at the same venue.

    • CITIS was born out of the “technology and innovation” track of the India Water Impact Summit (IWIS). The driver behind it was the need to bring policy makers, technology innovators and finance community together to discuss the dynamics of investing in high impact projects. Furthermore, an imperative need has grown to incorporate climate change mitigation and adaptation, energy transition along with solutions for the water and environmental sector.
    • This necessitated the need for a dedicated event which has been instituted as CITIS and co-located and co-organized alongside with IWIS 2023.

» The Climate Investments & Technology Impact Summit (CITIS) represents a groundbreaking initiative, marking the first event of its kind dedicated to presenting innovative solutions aimed at generating awareness and fostering the uptake of climate action measures.

Theme:

The core philosophy underpinning CITIS is the recognition that addressing global systemic issues like climate change necessitates a comprehensive and deep-rooted approach.

This approach was encapsulated in the overarching theme of the conference: “Climate Impact”, which emphasized the synergistic integration of three critical components: deep technology, robust policy, and innovative finance.

Grand Challenges

CITIS introduced a format where it presented Grand Challenges that the nation and the world is facing across 5 thematic sectors i.e. Water, Energy, Waste & Circular Economy, Food & Agriculture, and Transport.

    • By bringing together experts, innovators, and decision-makers, CITIS aimed to catalyze meaningful progress towards addressing the urgent and complex challenges posed by climate change, offering a roadmap for a sustainable and prosperous future.

CITIS served as a unique platform that brought together disruptive technology companies at the forefront of climate innovation with influential policymakers and forward-thinking financial institutions specializing in providing innovative financial solutions for climate initiatives.

About IWIS:
    • The India Water Impact Summit was first launched in 2012 during the evolution of the Ganga River Basin Management Plan (GRBMP) by the Consortium of 7 Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
    • IWIS was initiated to bring clarity to the myriad scientific, technological, socio-cultural, legal, policy and governance issues pertaining to river basin management in India in the context of highly diverse and divergent stakeholder interests, perceptions and understanding of river processes.
About National Mission for Clean Ganga (NMCG):
    • NMCG is the implementation wing of National Ganga Council which was setup in October 2016 under the River Ganga Authority order 2016.
    • Initially NMCG was registered as a society on 12th August 2011 under the Societies Registration Act 1860. It acted as implementation arm of National Ganga River Basin Authority (NGRBA) which was constituted under the provisions of the Environment (Protection) Act (EPA) 1986.
    • NGRBA has since been dissolved with effect from the 7th October 2016, consequent to constitution of National Council for Rejuvenation, Protection and Management of River Ganga (referred to as National Ganga Council). NMCG is under the aegis of Ministry of Jal Shakti, Government of India.
About Centre for Ganga River Basin Management and Studies (cGanga):
    • cGanga is a think tank and a centre of excellence formed under the aegis of NMCG, and one of its stated objectives is to make India a world leader in river and water science.
    • The Centre is headquartered at IIT Kanpur and has representation from most leading science and technological institutes of the country.
    • cGanga’s mandate is to serve as think-tank in implementation and dynamic evolution of Ganga River Basin Management Plan (GRBMP) prepared by the Consortium of 7 IITs.

2023 Asian Archery Championships

⇒ The 2023 Asian Archery Championships was held in Bangkok, Thailand from 3 November to 10 November 2023. It was the 23rd edition of the Asian Archery championships.

    • South Korea topped the medal tally with a total of 11 medals (6 gold, 2 silver, 3 bronze).
Performance of India:

India finished second with a total of 7 medals including three gold, one silver and three bronze at the Asian Archery Championships 2023 in Bangkok.

    • The Asian Archery Championships 2023 was also an Olympic qualifier for Indian recurve archers.
