Union Minister Shri Parshottam Rupala Launches “Report Fish Disease” App

⇒ Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Shri Parshottam Rupala launched an android-based mobile app as ‘Report Fish Disease’ on 28 June 2023.

    • The app was launched with an aim to strengthen the farmer-based disease reporting system and for improving the reporting of aquatic animal diseases in the country.
Developed by:

Contributing to the vision of “Digital India”, the ‘Report Fish Disease’ has been developed by ICAR-National Bureau of Fish Genetic Resources (NBFGR), Lucknow.

    • The app has been developed under National Surveillance Programme for Aquatic Animal Diseases (NSPAAD), funded under Pradhan Mantri MatsyaSampadaYojana by the Department of Fisheries, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying, Government of India.
Background:
    • The Department of Fisheries has allocated ₹33.78 crore for a period of three years for the implementation of the second phase of the NSPAAD under the PMMSY scheme. With the launch of this App, NSPAAD was able to meet the national and international obligations through transparent reporting.
    • The app will be a central platform for connecting and will integrate fish farmers, field-level officers and fish health experts seamlessly. The disease problem faced by the farmers which used to go unnoticed or not reported earlier, will reach to the experts and the problem will be addressed in efficient manner within a short period of time.
Benefits:
    • The farmers using this app will be able to connect directly to district fisheries officers and scientists. The Farmers and stakeholders can make self-reporting of diseases of finfish, shrimps and molluscs on their farms through this app for which scientific technical assistance will be provided through the same App by our scientists/ Experts to the farmers.
    • Early warning system and scientific advice being provided to the farmers will be helping the farmers to reduce their losses due to diseases and will further strengthen the disease reporting by fish farmers in the country.

Indira Gandhi National Centre organises exhibition on "Banking on World Heritage"

⇒ Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts organised an exhibition to showcase a first-of-its kind exhibition, “Banking on World Heritage.” 

    • The exhibition was inaugurated on 30th June, 2023 by Minister of State for External Affairs and Culture Smt. Meenakashi Lekhi.
Key Points:
    • Indira Gandhi National Centre organised the exhibition on the theme “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” or “One Earth One Family One Future”.
    • The exhibition displayed banknotes depicting world heritage sites listed by UNESCO at IGNCA in a unique manner. It was displayed from June 30th – July 9th 2023.
    • The exhibition was curated by Ms. Rukmini Dahanukar, an independent scholar and founder of ‘Money Talks’.

Udyami Bharat-MSME Day: In India

⇒ On the occasion of International MSME Day, Ministry of MSME celebrated ‘Udyami Bharat-MSME Day’ on 27th June, 2023 at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi.

    • The Union Minister for Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Shri Narayan Rane graced the occasion as Chief Guest of the programme along with the Union Minister of State for Micro, Small & Medium Enterprises, Shri Bhanu Pratap Singh Verma as Guest of Honor.
    • During the event, various initiatives of the Ministry of MSME, dedicated towards growth and development of MSMEs such as ‘CHAMPIONS 2.0 Portal’ and ‘Mobile App for Geo-tagging of Cluster Projects and Technology Centers’ were launched.
    • Further, results for ‘MSME Idea Hackathon 2.0’ were declared and ‘MSME Idea Hackathon 3.0’ for women entrepreneurs was launched.
    • On this occasion, both the Union Ministers motivated entrepreneurs by distributing certificates to Gold and Silver ZED-certified MSMEs. During the event, 400 crore Margin Money subsidy was also released digitally to 10,075 beneficiaries of new Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP) units.
The event also included the signing of MoUs between the following organizations.
    • Ministry of MSME and SIDBI, to create a portal for ‘PM VIshwakarma KAushal Samman’ (PMVIKAS) by SIDBI.
    • Ministry of MSME and GeM, with the objective of sharing of Udyam Registration data with GeM for last mile registration of MSMEs in the Public Procurement eco-system.
    • Ministry of MSME and the Industry Department, Government of Tripura, for sharing of Udyam Registration data through API, easing policy making and targeted distribution of scheme benefits.
    • Ministry of MSME and Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE) for giving guarantee coverage to the beneficiaries of the MSME sector.
    • National Small Industries Corporation (NSIC) and National Scheduled Castes Finance and Development Corporation (NSFDC) & National Scheduled Tribes Finance and Development Corporation (NSTFDC), to promote mutual collaboration for supporting SC/ ST entrepreneurs under National SC-ST Hub and various schemes being implemented by NSFDC and NSTFDC.
    • NSIC, LG Electronics India Private Limited, and Electronics Sector Skill Council of India to establish a Centre of Excellence (CoE) by LG Electronics in NTSC Chennai and Hyderabad.
Objective of the Ministry:

The objective of the Ministry through its schemes and initiatives is to improve business environment for MSMEs, encourage innovation and development of new products and services, promote regional development and reduce regional disparities, create market opportunities in both domestic and global market and also to encourage MSMEs to adopt sustainable practices. The Ministry emphasizes on creating employment opportunities and enhancing productivity and competitiveness of MSMEs across the country.

Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Egypt

⇒ Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was received by the President of the Arab Republic of Egypt, H.E. Mr. Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi at Al-Ittihadiya Palace on 25 June 2023.

Key Points:
    • The two leaders agreed that the newly established ‘India Unit’ in Egyptian Cabinet was a useful tool in steering bilateral collaborations.
    • The leaders discussed ways to further deepen the partnership between the two countries, particularly in areas like trade and investment, information technology, defence and security, renewable energy, agriculture, health, culture and people to people ties.
    • An agreement to elevate the bilateral relationship to a “Strategic Partnership” was signed by the to leaders. Three MoUs in the fields of Agriculture, Archaeology & Antiquities and Competition Law were also signed.

International MSMEs Day 2023

⇒ International MSMEs Day is observed every year on 27 June.

    • International MSMEs Day provides an opportunity to highlight the crucial role of MSMEs in sustainable development and advocate for policies that support their growth.
Theme:
    • In India, the theme for MSME Day 2023 was “Future-ready MSMEs for India@100.”
    • The Global Council for the Promotion of International Trade is also celebrating the day with “Building a Stronger Future Together” theme of this year. The global body is also launching #Brand10000MSMEs Network, a dynamic platform where MSMEs from around the world can connect, learn, and grow together.
History:
    • The United Nations General Assembly designated 27 June as “Micro-, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises Day” (A/RES/71/279) to raise awareness of the tremendous contributions of MSMEs to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
    • UNGA designated 27 June as the International Day for MSMEs on 6 April 2017 in recognition of the importance of MSMEs in promoting economic growth and job creation.
    • MSMEs account for 90% of businesses, 60 to 70% of employment and 50% of GDP worldwide. The MSME Day event aims to highlight their pivotal role and explore opportunities for their further advancement.
