National Startup Awards 2022

⇒ The Union Minister for Commerce and Industry, Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution & Textiles Shri Piyush Goyal announced the results of National Startup Awards 2022 in the presence of Shri Som Parkash, Minister of State for Commerce and Industry on 16 January 2023 in New Delhi.

Aim:

NSA 2022 aims to identify outstanding Startups propelling the Indian enterprise technology industry into the future.

» A ‘National Startup Awards 2022 Report’ was also released on the occasion.

    • The report provides detailed insight into the support provided to previous National Startup Awards recognized startups and the National Startup Awards 2022 winners.

MAARG platform:

The MAARG platform which stands for Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience, and Growth was also launched during the felicitation ceremony. This platform is envisioned to facilitate mentorship between startups and entrepreneurs across sectors, stages, and functions.

The third edition of awards, National Startup Awards 2022 rewarded outstanding startups and enablers which have demonstrated exceptional capabilities not just in terms of financial gains, but also for the measurable impact for the society.

New special category:

To recognize the efforts made by startups in the Hilly Regions and North-East region of India, a separate special category was introduced this year.

    • This category is in addition to the special categories for women – led startups, startups creating rural impact, startups innovating for content delivery in Indic languages, startups working on solutions with potential for import substitution and innovations for the COVID-19 pandemic.
Invited applications:

» The National Startup Awards 2022 invited applications across 17 sectors which were further divided into 50 sub sectors, and 7 special categories.

    • The sectors included Agriculture, Animal Husbandry, Construction, Drinking Water, Education & Skill Development, Energy, Enterprise Technology, Environment, Fintech, Food Processing, Health & Wellness, Media and entertainment, Industry 4.0, Security, Space, Transport and Travel.
National Startup Awards 2022 Winners:
    • In the National Startup Awards 2022, 124 startups were selected as finalists across 50 categories out of which, 42 startups have been chosen as winners by distinguished jury members from the government, industry, academia, startup ecosystem, and investors.
    • In this third edition, 2 incubators, and 1 accelerator were also recognized as winners in their respective categories.
    • The winning startups given a cash prize of INR 5 lakh each. One exceptional Incubator and one Accelerator each also received a cash prize of INR 15 lakh.

About NSA:
    • The National Startup Awards was launched by the DPIIT with the objective of recognising and rewarding outstanding startups and ecosystem enablers who are building products that are innovative, scalable, and have larger social impact.
    • The National Startup Awards (NSA) were presented for the first time in October 2020.

Two-day National Workshop on Health Management Information System (HMIS) and Reproductive Child Health (RCH) Portal

⇒ Union Health Secretary Shri Rajesh Bhushan addressed the National Workshop on Health Management Information System (HMIS) and Reproductive Child Health (RCH) Portal at Vigyan Bhawan, New Delhi on 12 January 2023.

Addressing the workshop, he said “I congratulate the unsung heroes of our health sector, the field workers, data gatherers, data integrators and data managers etc. They have made crucial contribution in timely data generation from over 2.25 lakh health facilities spread across the country. This data needs to be analyzed on a real-time basis to serve as the basis for health interventions in the states.”

Objective:

The objective of the two-day workshop was to reiterate utility of Health Management Information System (HMIS) portal and Reproductive Child Health (RCH) portal and their use as a monitoring and policy intervention tool.

» Three publications were released at the event along with focus on digital interventions under Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). New features of ANMOL (ANM Online), Kilkari Mobile Academy were also showcased.

Union Health Secretary released the Rural Health Statistics 2021-22 report, HMIS 2020-21 & 2021-22: An Analytical Report and Compendium of Population Research Centres (PRCs).

Rural Health Statistics 2021-22:

    • The Rural Health Statistics 2021-22 is an annual publication of MoHFW since the year 1992.
    • This provides the data on health infrastructure including manpower up to 31st March of every year. 
    • The publication is based on the data uploaded by States/UTs on HMIS portal and published only after getting verified by respective States/UTs.
    • It would serve as a vision document in identifying the gaps in the existing Healthcare Infrastructure and Human Resources in rural, urban and tribal areas of the country.

HMIS 2020-21 & 2021-22 report:

    • The HMIS 2020-21 & 2021-22 report provides an analytical insight into the key performance indicators pertaining to maternal health, child health, immunization, coverage of family planning services, adolescent health, and patient services.
    • In addition, an analytical chapter has been specifically incorporated to analyze the performance of District hospitals during these two years based on bed occupancy rate, C-Section rate, Blood replacement rate, rate of early initiation of breast-feeding, post-surgical infection rate etc.

Compendium of PRCs 2021-22:

    • Compendium of PRCs 2021-22 titled “Health for All: Prospects and Issues” was also unveiled.
    • The compendium contains selected research studies based on the primary as well as secondary data on Maternal Health, Child Health, Family Planning, Non-communicable diseases (NCDs) & communicable diseases (CDs) etc conducted by PRCs during the year 2021-22.
    • Awards were given to PRC Srinagar, PRC Dharwad, PRC Kerala, PRC Bangalore for their respective research studies.

Important Day

National Startup Day 2023

National Startup Day is celebrated every year on 16 January in India. This is the day Startup India started up.

    • The day is marked to encourage the spirit of entrepreneurship and promote achievements of Indian startups.
History:
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi had in 2022 announced January 16 as the National Startup Day in order to promote entrepreneurship and promote businesses.
    • India celebrated the first National Startup Day in 2022.
Startup India Innovation Week 2023:

To celebrate the spirit of Indian startup ecosystem and mark this momentous day, 10th January 2023 to 16th January 2023 was chosen as the Startup India Innovation Week.

Aim:

The Startup India Innovation Week 2023 was aimed at engaging stakeholders from the startup ecosystem across the country and fostering the spirit of entrepreneurship and innovation in India.

» Startup India Innovation Week 2023 included Knowledge Sharing Sessions for entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, and other enablers, involving relevant stakeholders from the startup ecosystem such as Government officials, incubators, corporates and investors.

    • In this context, various workshops, capacity building sessions and events were hosted by Startup India, with each session dedicated to a particular theme pertaining to the entrepreneurial ecosystem in India.
ASCEND SAMAGAM:

» DPIIT organized the ASCEND (Accelerating Startup Calibre & Entrepreneurial Drive) SAMAGAM on 10 January as part of the Startup India Innovation Week 2023.

    • The objective of the workshop was to capacitate and augment knowledge on key aspects of entrepreneurship and continue efforts towards creating a robust startup ecosystem in Northeast.
    • ASCEND Samagam was conducted as a follow up to ASCEND Workshops organized by DPIIT for the entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, students, and ecosystem enablers in all eight States of Northeast India during the months of November and December 2022.
MAARG Mentor Masterclass:

As a part of the week-long celebration of entrepreneurship, Department for Promotion of Industry, and Internal Trade under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry, with the support of Zone Startups India organized the MAARG Mentor Masterclass on 13th January 2023 in Mumbai. In addition to the mentors being present in person, outstation mentors also joined the sessions virtually.

    • The objective of the workshop was to equip the attendees with effective ways of mentoring startups, by enhancing their capacities and knowledge. Industry stalwarts who possess expertise in the area mentored the mentors.

MAARG (Mentorship, Advisory, Assistance, Resilience, and Growth), the National Mentorship Platform is a one-stop platform to facilitate mentorship for startups across diverse sectors, functions, stages, geographies, and domains.

Startup India Innovation Week 2023 concludes:

» The Startup India Innovation Week 2023 culminated on National Startup Day i.e. 16 January 2023 with the felicitation of the winners of the National Startup Awards 2022.

Startup India:
    • Startup India is a flagship initiative intended to catalyze startup culture and build a strong and inclusive ecosystem for innovation and entrepreneurship in India.
    • Since its launch in 2016, the Startup India Initiative has rolled out several programs to support entrepreneurs, build a robust startup ecosystem and transform India into a country of job creators rather than job seekers.
    • These programs are managed by a dedicated Startup India Team, reporting to the Department for Industrial Policy and Promotion (DPIIT) under the Union Ministry of Commerce and Industry.
